- A seemingly rare and forgotten clip of The Shamen doing a live(ish) version of Ebeneezer Goode on Top of the Pops in 1992 in which, Mr C takes the opportunity to tell us that it's "Not "e", not "e", most definitely not "e".
They would occasionally use their appearance on TOTP to try and do something a bit different with live vocals and live mixing. In this case, they rendered Ebeneezer with an acid hook in a similar vane to their BBC On Air session. Bleeptastic!
Excellent, they took the opportunity to play an analogue acid version that was entirely different from the version that had topped the hit-parade, and clearly had a great time making people throw shapes in Auntie's sitting room.

This is the original version, the Beatmasters remixed it and made it into a No1.
Got to No. 1 during Radio 1’s Drug Awareness Week. After this, a lot more listeners were aware of drugs...

What can you say, the BBC's drug awareness program worked like a charm. We sure were more aware of Es then.
Haha going on top of the pops and performing the weird acid 12" b-side instead of the smash hit version that the radio played. These lads were beyond having a laugh. Salad days.

Live TOTP's, how rare.
Yes I found the different takes on the songs great, rather than just playing same tunes each week. Shows true talent to do a different mix of your own song rather than being lazy and just going with the flow.
Shamen did a number of live performances at TOTP, looking down the line I think (almost) all of their appearances were live?
There was a time in the early 90s when TOTP wanted bands to sing live and it coincided with the rave/e boom and there were some real shockers. By the time boyband boom had come along, it was back to miming.

I started laughing when this got played on TOTP.
It was during a drug awareness week after the government were talking about the rave and drug scene and how ecstasy was a bad thing.

One says selling out, another may say "not too good at reading contracts". They were pretty much pressed into the whole shit by One Little Indian. Hence the "Fuck Birket" in the naming of the Hempton Manor album (read the first letters of the song titles).

Filmed three days before I was born. Ebeneezer is such an incredible feeling. It's hard for me to imagine being high in the 90's as I only had snapshot memories, but I bet it was amazing
I'm in my sixties now and used drugs for a good 45 years. It's not so cool when your health is destroyed. I have severe lung damage and other problems. Stay as healthy as you can is my advice. Get your highs from sport and fitness.
Mr C is also a good DJ seen him play many years ago at Ministry of Sound

This live version was quite controversial because apparently Mr C admitted to changing the lyrics from "he's Ebenezer good to these effing es are good"
