Here is my theory of why the Karen phenomenon reached its peak during the pandemic and petered out afterwards:
With quarantine, narcissistic middle managers were suddenly cut off from their primary hunting grounds (the office), and were reduced to screaming at grocery store employees for stacking the oranges "wrong" in order to get their narc supply. They did not always stop to consider that out in public, everyone has a camera in their pocket, and unlike in the office there is no stigma or consequence for anyone using it to record your adult toddler nonsense and make you a viral star on social media.
When people started going back to the office, these creatures got their hunting grounds back and didn't have to work their evil in public anymore.

The sad thing is men so often prove these women right. For example, "Big Red" only went to public rallies and talked smack to people face to face. In response, hundreds of thousands of men stalked her, sent her death and _rpe_ threats online, harassed her for years, and pushed her into obscurity. She was also a rpe victim, which is why she was so mad and outspoken. And on top of it all, the police did nothing to protect her. There's no excuse for any of that. I can't even imagine having so little going on in my own life that I spend all my time harassing some random woman online.
As for Rebecca, she shouldn't have outed that woman by name, but it's absolutely weird for a man to ask a woman he doesn't know up to his hotel room, especially when they're in a confined space. She had every right to feel unsafe, and all she said was, "Please don't do that."
And all the men coming out of the woodwork, telling her she was overreacting when we literally have cases of those situations being dangerous for women just proved her point. And Dawkins was insane for comparing that to women oppressed by Islam. Just because things are worse for women elsewhere in the world, that doesn't mean there aren't still problems here. There was _just_ a case recently where a woman was killed simply for rejecting a man who asked her out.

Had he asked if she would like to go to the cafe in the lobby, that would have been perfectly normal. I can promise you that if you had a daughter of her age you wouldn’t be ok with a man, that she doesn’t know, asking her to his room for coffee.

No one was saying the guy wasn't being socially awkward or that she should have been flattered and gone with him. The point people were trying to make is that it is extremely hypocritical to claim to be against societal gender roles and go on to say 'men, don't do this.' This is incredibly vague and pompous, and tends to be off putting. Had she said what you said, no one would have said a peep, but she didn't. It was her attitude and the way she communicated her message. She effectively did exactly what the guy did, committed a social faux pas, but in a public fashion.
As for your assertion that people wouldn't be ok with their daughter's being in that situation, that's simply not true and I don't know why you think you know other people enough to make such a claim. Real PTSD is such an overwhelming pressure, such a haunting, devastating sense, that those suffering from it will actively run from triggering situations. I've seen grown men go fetal as the visions assault their brain, tears and whimpers tearing them down like legitimate torture.
If someone claims online harassment gave them PTSD, but they're still online, stirring the pot for attention, picking fights... then I feel ninty-nine percent confident they don't have one goddam clue what real PTSD looks like. Those people that suddenly delete their online presence and flee from the public light? They could be legit. I could believe that. That's what real PTSD behavior looks like. But the woman claiming it over some online commentary, using it as a cudgel to guilt anyone disagreeing with her? No. No, that's just a bruised ego and a thin skin. The thing is, the reason she was often so aggressive is because people would constantly speak over her when she was answering them.
I feel like this narrative of sensibility politics is incredibly biased because it never applies to the people speaking over or recording the events. It's only the people who are countering them.
Why can't the same be said about those people and how their views will never be taken seriously because their doxxing and silencing of the other side is so intense?
Also, it's very often targeted against marginalised people.
This woman was angry. Men are angry and aggressive all the time in debates and they make careers off of it and the idea of not taking shit. But when a woman does the same thing and is pushed to that place, she is shat on for it.

You had an entire generation of young boys who had getting their very real problems absolutely shit on as their introduction to gender issues. The "we do not care about you even though youre still affected by societal expectations of men" tone of the movement was so fucking bad and you cant expect the people you intentionally push away to not swing in the other direction. Both men and women are affected by various gendered issues and no one gender or issue deserves the spotlight because it's all important. I was the opposite: I was left wing in college, due to wanting justice, and sorting out my own emotions/trauma. I became an alcoholic at 18, until my late 20's, so I dealt with an addiction issue through these times too. As I got older I realized that many of these left wing people were absolutely toxic and awful people, with mental health issues, drugs and narcissism, none of which vibed with me. Then I decided obviously the people on the right wing side were not loons, right? So I'd try that next... boy, was I wrong for a few years, being angry, and sulking about everything SJW, feminist, blah blah blah! I am happily moderate now, and also not that into politics that I think do not matter at all, such as petty opinions, arguing, division. Idc at all what random crap people do, as long as no ones getting hurt. I'm a lot happier since leaving those facets of extremism in politics. Most people on both sides are rotten, miserable, violent, pathetic cowards, and alot of other buzzwords. Fuck their melodrama agendas. I'm working hard, doing exciting things I've never done before, lifes good, I vote and pay attention, treat people around me with respect, and I don't run on anger and hatrred. It's really interesting to watch this video and see my view on these people, with a wholely different set of values and minset. I'm able to empathise, relate and probably would relatively get along with many of these SJW people I used to hate. Best thing I ever did as a former anti-SJW was include women in my life, giving me a healthier balance of relationships. I know many "SJW" leaning people now who are fantastic people, don't cause issues, don't cause drama, just do their thing, have their opinions. EDIT: Guys I'm not excusing the actions of the people having the public freakouts. I'm talking about the disproportionate effects of them.
Here's what I remember (YAPPING WARNING):
As someone who was a middle schooler in 2015-2018 during the height of this, a lot of us were hyperfocused on not appearing like these people (my town is more left-leaning in politics, but we were still affected by the anti-SJW craze) and acting like "the good ones". I say "the good ones" specifically because most of my friends and I myself were part of the LGBTQ+ community, and I am a woman, so we had to really act like we weren't affected by the ignorance we *did* see because otherwise we were labelled SJWs. It was bizarre, like 90 percent of my friends were trans and yet whenever they were disrespected by someone who was transphobic they just sort of took it. Because they had to, they feared being filmed or doxxed. It affects my sister, who is transgender, to this day; she has this very strict perception of what is "ladylike" to this obsessive-compulsive degree, and to this day when people misgender her she blames herself.
As for me, as a girl, I would see these horrendous comments under the videos I watched about how "women were inherently irrational" and "belonged in the kitchen." I would see girls my age being met with threats I cannot repeat. And as much as I felt bad for them? What I took away was "Prove these men wrong by being civil. Don't disregard them, don't disappoint them." I wrote a reminder of the like on my arm in sharpie so I could remember, and it was in the winter months so fortunately nobody saw it.
I was a thirteen-year-old kid. As were my friends.
Today my friend group is still mostly made up of people in the LGBTQ+ community. They aren't the type of people to stand on soapboxes and get people fired, have a conniption about outdated terms or commit assault. But that's what they were characterized as in the late 2010s because of a few scapegoats when I can guarantee many of these groups of people are the same as you and I, sure they'll be understandably vocal about social issues but not in the reverse-McCarthyist way they're often painted as. Ironically, despite their identities, many of my trans friends tell stories of consuming anti-SJW content, just as I did. They had similar experiences to mine, similar confusion, but heightened due to their queerness, sometimes racial whereas with me it was just womanhood and I didn't much think about my own queerness.
Today they view this content more critically, as do I, and I am telling the younger generation to view these public freakouts with that same critical thinking. There is always an agenda behind a headline. TikTok users forget that in particular.

We somehow ended up in the worst timeline where we no longer have a strong egalitarian left-wing movement (we have anti-egalitarian Feminists, race grifters, Etc.) and a Conservative backlash and BOTH sides hate anti-S.J.W.'s and Men's (Human) Rights Advocates with a passion.

The worst thing about these people is how much damage they did to left wing movements. By shifting their goals of economic justice to social justice, which is important; but economic justice is social justice. It really pushed away a lot of people who otherwise would have been on board with ideas of economic justice.
In the early to mid 2010s Conservatives were on the ropes. A lot of anti economic justice propaganda wasn’t working on people. Even conservatives were on board with a lot of left leaning economic ideas. You guys think Donald Trump won because of sexism? Donald Trump went to Michigan like 20 times and talked about economic justice. Hillary didn’t go there once and rarely talked about any kind of economic issues that people cared about. A lot of her campaign revolved around this online social justice stuff.

OK to clarify the Big Red thing... I was part of the 2013 ordeal where she was screaming in a friend's face and mocking that his brother had committed suicide. Why you didn't mention that, shows a lot about your direction. He remained calm, quiet and tried to only speak when there was a moment - while she was screeching and bawling in his face, accusing him of numerous crimes. Yet, when he addressed the fact that he wanted to talk about men's issues such as suicide, given his brother had performed this act some years prior. She then went on to mock him, singing "Cry me a river..." - she was a vile, nasty individual.
Also, the terms 'woke', SJW, all those - the right didn't invent them. The left leaning people took them for themselves. Woke is a particularly troublesome theft from the black community that white lefties stole... that is why the right leaning mock them using "their own" terms.
When "The Red Pill" came out, Casey shows what happens to feminists who genuinely look at men's issues. They either mock them, as Big Red did (and continues to) OR they actually develop enough empathy to include men... and once they show signs of empathy for men, they're cast-out of the feminist movement or they leave having observed the hate it promotes. Look at Erin Pizzey for another example, Christina Hoff-Sommers for another, Wendy McElroy... the list goes on. Every time a feminist show any empathy towards men - they suffer abuses, character assassinations, and generally removed from the sisterhood.
This history repeats itself over & over again... It's a guarantee.
