    May I just thank you for this video... this one in particular. Because you are so eloquent in the way that you reassure your viewers about the simplicity of working with sourdough. So, so many people who teach others are caught up in believing that making something complicated makes the teacher appear to be ‘intelligent’. What I learned a long time ago, was that anyone can take a subject and make it complicated. True genius always simplifies and reassures and teaches well. So. You displayed your true genius, Miss Lori. You seem to take such pride in making everything you teach simple and sensible. What a wonderful teacher you are!!! Thank you for being you.

    Hi Miss Lori, I just had to tell you that I made these English muffins yesterday and they turned out incredible! By the way, I didn’t have dry milk, so I used 1.5 cups of water and a 1/2cup of regular milk and the dough turned out perfect, just like yours. I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to thank you for making it; so much of what's on the internet is designed to get clicks rather than impart knowledge/skills and I really appreciate your common sense videos. Many of the skills people need to be self-sufficient aren't difficult, but they do need to be learned in order to be successful and it's frustrating when I look for a video on how to do something and only find overly complicated, expensive, INEFFECTIVE guidance on the internet. So THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart for the time and effort you put into making these valuable videos. Blessings upon you and your family! 🙏❤

    Well, Miss Lori, I sure do appreciate your opening comments on how easy sourdough starter is, because I've been on a wild roller-coaster ride for a week with my first attempt. My recipe started out like yours, but my starter never did show any sign of life. It just looked like pancake batter. And I was feeding it, and adding water, and soon the batter had brownish water floating on top of it, so much so that I quit adding water and just added flour, and nary a bubble to indicate activity. It got a little of that sourdough smell to it, but after a second feeding without water, it went to smelling like a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Pretty nice, but not what I was expecting. Then yesterday, I noticed it seemed to be growing--still no bubbles--but I put a rubber band on the jar and kept watch, and sure enough it was rising. This morning (day 7) I got up find it rose right up to the lid and dripped down the sides! And no lack of bubbles. There were bubbles everywhere! There was a bit of a business about the lid getting stuck, I'm sure you know what happens when hydrated flour dries. By now it's calmed back down, but I'm not sure whether to feed it, decant it into a discard jar, bake with it, or run from it. Probably should have come and watched your video first. 🤣🤣🤣

    Sourdough starters are so healthy and delicious in breads- pancakes- English muffins and crepes! Happy to say my starter is 2 years old. It seems to go to sleep in the refrigerator which is great in between breads. 😋❤️👍😊

    Thank you so much for this recipe for sour dough. I would love to have a list of all the different ways you use it. I did learn last year that you can actually freeze the sour dough starter if you find that you aren't using it up fast enough or if you are going on vacation, etc. I think I even read online that you could dehydrate it also. Thanks again for this great video. Hugs!

      If your having problems getting it to go . Just check and make sure your flour is unbleached . Sometimes it is easier to start with rye flour to get it established.

      @Green orchard I saw a video yesterday that said wheat flour is the easiest to get started. Like you, she also said that you have to use unbleached flour or it will never work.

    • @AngelaSissySnyder

      The starter is young so that’s why she’s making muffins instead of bread. She’s using the starter instead of throwing away a discard until the starter is more mature. Yeast insures this recipe’s success. After the starter is fed another week or two and it gets stronger then no yeast is necessary and will be able to make bread as well.

    I tried this with the regular flour from the grocery store and it would always die. Tells me just how nutrient deprived that flour really is! So I now have wheat berries that I’m going to mill tonight (I bought a hand crank mill machine this summer), so we’ll see how it does with the real fresh flour instead! 🙏🏼✨🥰

    I cannot wait to start my sour dough starter. I will have to work on getting a warm place for it to ferment. My home temp is usually around 67 degrees (and yes, I have a problem getting my bread dough to rise). I may have to give in and buy a dough rising box for my baked goods that need a rise or two and use it to ferment the starter too. I am definitely excited to try this recipe!! Thanks Ms. Lori...you and Pa stay warm and safe during the nasty weather this week❤

      @Tracey Johnston I have used my oven/oven light. I then went to a preheat of oven at its lowest temperature and sometimes set a pot of boiling water in the oven, too. I work at finding the best options...last resort if bread is not to my liking, it then becomes bread crumbs or croutons. Definitely no waste, lol.

    At 40 I'm finally starting to "homestead" like I've always wanted to.
    I've been wantin to start my own bread and LOVE sourdough. I decided, because my arthritis is gettin so bad, I'm going to get a bread machine.
    Anyhow, of all the other starter videos I've seen, I'd so much rather use your instructions. You make it all so easy!
    Glad y'all made it through this winter!

    If you live in a cold climate like northern US or Canada, it may take about 14 days before it can be used to make bread with. So if your starter isn't active in the time line that she is giving you, don't give up. She didn't speak about the smells of the starter going through the process of fermentation either. You can have smells of sweetness, finger nail polish and even beer. This is normal, just keep feeding your starter. about day 3 or 4 you can use your starter in making pancakes, waffles, flat breads biscuits etc. Make sure you keep the starter in the fridge when you aren't using it and feed it once a week. Whenever you use it, also make sure to replenish your starter by the amount you used.

    • @Sarah-zg5qs
      @Sarah-zg5qs ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebucksstophere8870 Sourdough starter don't die unless it gets mold. Keep it in fridge and make sure to feed it at least once a week if you aren't using it. I've had mine for 13 years now. A good rule to keep, is that every recipe may need adjustment, don't follow a recipe to a T, but rather go for the feel of the bread dough. Your water and flour ratio will differ all the time. I live in Canada and I know people who live 9,000 ft elevation and have no problems with sourdough starter. She also keeps her starter on the counter.
