To everyone wondering about GA4 custom UTM parameters, Google states that session-based custom dimensions (like custom UTMs) are on the product roadmap, so it should be available at some point, but not right now.. It seems they are working through how to have this functionality available without breaking any potential privacy laws, because custom dimensions that utilize a UTM parameter could quite easily breach user privacy

Thanks for the detailed explanation. It would be helpful if you can explain how to migrate this to GA4 or create a new custom UTM parameter in GA4.

How can I make a custom dimension to include AdSetName as AdSetName in google analytics. Including it in utem_term etc doesn't makes any sense.

Thanks for the great video, mate! Quick question: I enabled auto-tagging in Google Ads, so the gclid should be visible in my landing pages URLs. Now, I'd like GTM to grab the gclid and append it to certain outbound links. So when a user comes to my landing page and clicks on certain outbound links, I would like GTM to append the gclid value that was passed from Google Ads to that outbound link as a query parameter so it gets passed on. Do you know if that's possible and if yes, how? Thanks!

Hey, This was super helpful. I have been working on a problem the past 2 days and was wondering if you had any suggestions. I updated the campaignSource to be the fragment at the end of the URL. When I go on to the website in preview mode everything works exactly how I want. However, once I leave preview mode source is not being updated. Has this ever happened to you?

Have you figured it out ? I think the last part of the video in which he asks to SUBMITT is missing at your end.

Simple answer is it's not available yet. Google states that session-based custom dimensions (like custom UTMs) are on the product roadmap, so it should be available at some point.. Very specific question. Don't know if you take requests? I'm using a very simple chat bot that re-directs visitors to specific areas of their site (an events page and a subscription page). I know that since we've introduced the chat bot, our event registrations and subscriptions have gone up but I have no way of tracking the direct impact of the bot since I don't want to add utm coding to the link as it would (I assume) strip out the original source the visitor arrived on the site. I've tried adding (without source/medium/campaign) and it shows up as a variable on tag manager but doesn't appear in GA. Any suggestions.?

@@MeasureSchool It took a few hours initially for the data to start populating in Google Analytics. Currently, the data can be seen within few minutes.

What do you mean? GTM is the standard, and if you're not using it, you're not a marketer.
