  • Here you can see a simple but very effective method of sharpening drill bits with drill jig.
I made a simple jig for the bench grinder that makes it very easy to sharpen drill bits. They will be as sharp as new ones.

Honestly you should patent this and sell it. I despise sharpening drill bits, I’m never happy with the results and this design looks amazing. Your jig for setting up the able on the wheel to the guide bar is awesome too and it’s something most people won’t be able to fabricate without a CNC. Do it and I’ll be one of your first customers.

Cannot patent something already disclosed. But you can make and sell!

I grind by hand. Anything 5/32" diameter or larger is pretty easy. Split points are difficult.

Nice solution. But, how small a drill can you go down to? I find the weeny drills the trickiest to sharpen!

I find that the rounded back relief drills better then a square back relief bit.........

Excellent , great. Thank you so much. This is a simple one compared to the ones I have seen

That’s absolute amazing. Thank you so much! I have a Grindr with some very flimsy sheet rests, and so I was looking at your other video to help set up something more substantial. This is an obvious Nextep and I’m so thankful that you took the time to explain it to us.❤

That's really cool. I would be interested in purchasing or if you can provide the plans.

Thanks for your nice comment, maybe you can take a screenshot and build the jig with it. The only thing that is important is that the position of the screws that determine the grinding angle are the same on both sides. If I make plans at some point I will put the link in the description. Sorry that I can't do more at the moment but thanks again for your comment.

Thank you, this is a nice design. i made many different jig gor drill sharpening before but this looks simple and accurate.
How to cut centre slots without cnc?
I thought about splitting the wood in the middle, cut the slots together on the tablesaw and glue back together again, ?
that way the slot s should be straight and with precise width.

hi, i also use ESTLCAM on my CNC, do you have the ESTLCAM file or DXF for sale perhaps? been searching for an accurate jig like this, this is the simplest and most repeatable. thanks for making this video.@@andysworkbench

Every way I try to think to improve your design ends up with me understanding why you made choices you did, and I'm impressed repeatedly. If you foresaw in advance all those implications and then called your design simple, I give up. Thank you for sharing 🤩

You said "important is that the cutting edges of the drill bit need to be parallel to the top edge of the jig". Then, if the drill bit size is different, do you need multiple jigs? Or is there a way to use multiple drill bits of different sizes in one jig?

Sweet! The beauty is in the simplicity that guarantees symmetrical faces. Rotating the drill holder 180 degrees and dropping the drill into the V slot does it all!

Hi Andy. Great Jig. Would you let me have the sizes & details of it so I can make one and get all my drill bits like new again. Thanks for any help Andy.

    Hi,
Excellent, first put the angle at 118 degrees and install the drill bit, then somersault it on the other side and at the same angle. This makes the drilling centered
The degree of inclination of 10 degrees is also excellent.
And manufacturing the piece of wood on the router machine gives us precision in the design of the piece.
    Thank you so much

I do not worry to much about the angle but happy you have addressed the cutting lip being the same length most people make jigs to set the angle but do not have any way of holding both sides the same length that is more important then angle I like my drills more around 135 degrees and then split the point.
