In this video we install a standing seam metal roof on a bay window. This is a great project if you are looking to dress up the front of your house. Great work.... your buddy in the white T needs a vacation. It's not hard to see the dude can use a few days in the sun without holding any tools. When he gets back give him a tool belt and a few fresh T's. He's got the skills but a rest is what he deserves. Throw a bit-stop onto that drill to save the odd drill into the hand on push through.... done it more than once and the $5 stop is worth it. thanks guys for all the hard work.
Thanks for the tip. That’s my dad and I agree he deserves a break. He’s on vacation now actually, but he gets bored easily so it won’t last more than a few days and he’ll be working on something.
If it’s short runs like this then probably. However for long runs I don’t think it would work. Roll formers just create a nice smooth panel very quickly. The cost of renting a roll former would quickly pay for the time saved on a normal sized house roof.
That is hard for me to say because there are so many variables to consider. It took us 1 whole day to do each roof. However the roof was already prepared for that day as we had already removed the shingles, removed the siding, and laid the ice and water. So factor 2 days of labor probably. Materials cost is pretty minimal as the roofs are small. So you will mostly be paying for labor. The best thing to do is get some quotes.
Well it depends on a lot of different variables. What gauge of metal, what paint finish, what tools you need to buy, what metal panel profile you are using, are you paying someone to do it, and so on. I used the heavier 24 gauge with the higher end paint finish. I used around 40 linear feet of metal panel on each roof and purchased 2 ridge caps so the cost was around $150 per roof in material.
Well the biggest variable is who made the bay. In the factory the norm is a 3 panel bay is like that. If it isn't then all the angles will add up to 180. That's including the angle of the first window and last window off the wall. If your framing the roof them that framing is on you. If your buying 3 windows and framing them out then it's all on you whether the angles are right. Either way nice copper work. That extruding machine was really cool.
I've only been able to find one roofing company in my area to give me a quote and it was over $5,000 for just one window like this. Doesn't that seem a bit outrageous?
It does seem high but they are a lot of work and take a lot of time. To do it right you also have to remove siding and reinstall after the roof is done.
Amazing! This is exactly what I needed to plan install of standing seam roof over my bay window. Thank you!
Glad to help.
I love this ,, it really does dress up the looks ALOT !!! ❤️
Thanks I agree

Yeah , couldn't imagine if pops had to wear a harness he would probably have more of a puss face....
Your job is done very good but who installed the window and the rough in
Why?
Good work! Very helpful!
Thanks
let me ask you, can a roof metal be build with an aluminum coil in a brake press?

yes i have done it many times. i have never seen the hand benders he has but yes you can make it on a good heavy duty tapco break
Fantastic!!! I’d love to know the total cost of materials per window.
Material cost is pretty small (less than $300) compared to the cost of the labor.
Where can I buy that machine?
New Tech Machinery
How much would something like this cost to have done? Estimate in labor and materials

Please provide for a cost for each bay's roof. Thanks.

The angles on each piece of flashing are 22 1/2 degrees. There 135 degree outside corners 45 degree inside corners.
Sure, in an ideal world where everything is built perfectly haha

Few things I’d have done a little differently but what ever. Not bad

That's some inexpensive machinery you have there /sarcasm ;)
