    Great job. I’m not a metal expert. Just cedar and asphalt. Seems simple on a gable building with no protrusions. Most houses have skylights, valleys and mechanical. Would like to see a video of more complex job.

    In this video we install a standing seam metal roof on my pole barn. The panel profile we used is SSR 450 SL and the color is burnished slate. This was our first metal roof using this portable roll former and this panel profile. If you have any questions or suggestions drop them in the comments. Also, the links below are to videos that discuss the installation of valley flashing, kick out side wall flashing, and installing a metal roof on a bay window if you’re interested. Thanks for sharing. Looks great and metal roof is my favorite type of roofing. Have you done any other metal roof on a house that has valleys and skylights? Just curious how hard that would be. I had a project but couldn’t find any bids lower than $50K so the homeowner decided to go with shingle roof.

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m just starting to put a metal roof on my house and it has some complicated valleys. I’ll record it and post most likely.

    Why do you use that type of rake trim vs rake trim that requires z bar and butter tape? Seems water could splash up and over the high rib. I do metal roofing for a living and have learned alot watching your videos.

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you liked the videos. This rake is very easy to install as it’s one piece. That’s why I like it. I think some water could splash up and get behind there but very little. If water does get behind, there is a few inches of metal with an upward hem that acts as a small gutter that allows the water to drain away.

  • @reezoe164

    Thx for the vid. But i got a few questions. Wouldnt the screws at the top restruct the movement? Also, you know if solar panels being installed on these wouod be a problem? Now that i see how theyre installed, seems solar panel clips, clipping onto the ridges might restrict movement. Hmm.

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screws at the top do not restrict movement, because that is the only spot where they’re truly fastened through the panel as the clips hold it down, but they allow it to slide down, so as a panel expands a grows downward. I’m not sure about solar panel installation however i’m sure there’s ways to do it that won’t affect the expansion and contraction of the metal.

    What are the clips? How can I install standing seam without the special cutting machine, tool to bend the ends, special electric cutting tool, tool you all used to roll/bend the edge after cut, etc.?

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  ปีที่แล้ว

      You need the tools. Some places may have these tools for rent. These clips a specifically designed for this metal roof panel profile.

    You actually want your starter on top on your inlay with a metal roof unless you go with a strip of under lay first and then paper over the starter because you shouldn’t have metal in wood contact good job guys

    You guys make this look very easy.....why do Standing seam roofs cost 2-3 times more?

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. There is an art to installation if you have a complicated roof so that costs more. Also, you need to use a heavier gauge for standing seam and there is a lot of specialized trim pieces to buy. There’s also a little of, they charge more because they can as not everyone has the tools and know how. To roll form standing seam costs a little more than exposed fastener but not significantly more. You just buy a coil and pay per sqft.

    • @HowtoHacks

      The clips come from a company in logansport, Indiana. However, each different profile might have a different clip style. Contact the manufacturer of your roll former or metal that you bought.

    never seen that F channel (piece of fascia w/channel) I like it. I guess the roofing being bent in it will hold it down? Don't see it on my suppliers list, Darn it.

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ask for a custom piece. If they have a CNC break they should be able to make it.

    • @shawnmoats9526
      @shawnmoats9526 ปีที่แล้ว

      Do not use that detail!! It is not smacna approved to counter astm E1592 negative design pressures. The same problem at the ridge vent, as well as the top of panel drag load screws are not installed correctly. This roof is NOT properly installed to receive solar panels or snow retention. As an independent consultant I continue to see these regional rollformers make these mistakes over and over. Everytime one of these roofs fails it is very easy to assign liability to this install/rollform, as none of this roof is per any industry testing. This install also violates every aspect of ASTM 330 and 331 for water and air infiltration.

      We like their customer service support, how easy it is to change out dies to run different profiles, and the large number of different profiles you can choose from. We also got a good deal through one of their suppliers that wanted to move this specific machine. We went with the SSR Multipro Jr as it’s a more affordable model.

      Please buy a shlebach there out of Georgia they are a very good machine with pre-cut and all computerized. You don’t have to have a stand with a trigger on it. It has its own tape measure. It is dead on the money and been a very good looking panel.

    I def cant justify the $45K $60K price of not doing this myself. I priced materials for a 90ftx40ft roof...and it seemed to come out to less than $10K. Maybe im wrong but...panels were like $50 each. Granted, these were not the ones that used the clips, but instead they had the nail holes. But even adding $2.5K or $5K more for the type using clips, i think my boys could get the roof done in 2 days. Id pay them $500 for the 2 days...and im only at $17.5K. Labor always sets us back...as investors. 😅...but i understand.

    • @HowtoHacks
      @HowtoHacks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, the labor is the most expensive part of getting a metal roof put on. Sometimes it can get complicated when there’s a lot of valleys, slope transitions, and things like that. However, if you just have a straight gable roof it’s not that bad.

    Number one clips absolutely suck. They do not hold the metal down there and screwed 12 inches on center with a nail flange plus use 24 gauge metal. I do it every day. I’m not just trying to be a dumbass in the comments, but please tear off shingles.
