👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾 to those still listening to these highly lyrical oldies. I was born in 1962 and every time I hear these it’s like first time. I can’t get enough still in October, 2024🙏🏾♥️
It’s so awesome no matter where we are in the world,we’re able to interact, We appreciate the opportunity that these amazing has provided for the next generation, much ❤
I am a reggae dancehall artist but listen more kaiso than any other music. Kaiso is on of the hardest music to write in my opinion as a song writer I have to confess
This is really a treasure from Trinidad 🇹🇹 I love Blakie such a brilliant calypsonian. Trinidad has some of the most beautiful calyposians I hope people treasure them.🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Love Love Love Those days when music was just the education system you need. From reading great story lyrically to moral socializations and great great entertainment. Love to our fathers like you Lord Blakie
I have probably seen this a dozen times and every time it sounds sweeter. Thank you Blakie we have you here forever. Alos these calypsoes show us clearly the true meaning of Calypso. these artists were the messengers of the time.
I totally and absolutely agree with you Mike..ive seen this over 20 times and every time it gets sweeter.. Lol...this is from the thoughts living in De diaspora for De past 53 years.. Remember da slick head..i saw men get slap and call hen by De library corner when I was 12 ....lovingly Mike
Truly infectious laugh. If you met this legend in person you better listen carefully because he had a way of speaking which demanded you pay attention and if he realized you were left behind he quickly rescued you but as a father figure he often returned later on to pull you aside and enlighten you.
Steelband Clash (road march 1954), Chinese Accident (Incident), Maria (1962 Road March), and Hold De Pussy (1967)- with the talents of David Rudder, Gypsy & Mystic Prowler (1944-2003) as the chorus, and the Master of Ceremonies himself, comedian Sprangalang, Lord Blakie- Carlton Joseph (1932-2004), the Original rudeboy of Kaiso indeed- with that mischievous laugh of his (between him and Sparrow which one is worse- I would have to say Blakie). Rest In Peace Blakie, Kaiso is not the same without legends like you, Lord Kitchener, Lord Shorty, Duke, Brigo, Lord Melody and so many more!!! Long live the calypso art form & tradition!
He captured periods in Trinidad's cosmopolitan society so well: steelband rivalry, our linguistic complexities, immigration, love and obsession for Venezuelan (red) women, and the list goes on. Thank you for sharing this gem.
You could see David Rudder enjoying himself because he been hearing blakie when he was a little boy for those of you who do not know this is a treasure
I'm not from T &T but from since I was small I love to listen to Blakie he is quite a cheerful calypsonian. I remember the first time he sang simple calypso, ZIZ radio (St. Kitts) must have played it over 100 times.
This song reminds me of my father he love his steelband fight or no fight he is 90 yrs now and still feel he's a battler it's in his blood (steel band clash).🎶📯✌.
Oh how kaiso from blake, brigo, and rest brings back memories of the golden years of kaiso, and i was there for most of these greats when they cameto Sangre Grande,Ascot cinema ,for their yearly carnival season shows glad and happy to have them in all their glory.
I heard these cslypsoes as a young boy growing up. They were good then; they are even better now! Interesting though is that West Indians back then were not restricted by political correctness. Calypsoes poked fun at the accents of Trinidadian Chinese, Grenadians, Bajans, Yankees or whomever they p,eased. We laughed and danced without taking offence.
My grenadian mom detested that song maria about grenadians pronunciatians. Every time it played on radio she would switch station or take of the radio..memories...RIP mom and blakie
Blakie from St Paul Street. As a young girl growing up every time I see him that man he was singing and dancing a chip here and skip there. He use t best pan too. His mother daughter nice looking ppl. I was from up Clifton those were the days.
Good soul knew him personally use to sing all is songs in mas camp on a friday afterwork lime with mystic prowler blackie use to come in an join good days wont come back just memories now R I. P. BLACKIE AN PROWLER AN THANK YOU
Jeremy Sean Hector don't think too much on it. Blakie might have been a Grenadian descendant himself. Majority of Trinis are descendants of other nearby islands... I think his rival was Sparrow so he is singing to rival Sparrow. Calypsoians did "battles", if that makes sense.
As a West Indian I had the opportunity to seeing and hearing these great story tellers and also to bring to bring these special Artists to the public as a Radio Personality for the past 43 years.

Many people don't appreciate the beauty and originality of this exceptional artform.
