It's basically Steam OS but there are some differences especially in desktop mode. For example Steam OS uses KDE desktop while ChimeraOS uses Gnome. Also the browser based app used to install non-Steam games is unique to ChimeraOS. And yes it's unfortunate Nvidia isn't supported but it's not surprising, Nvidia generally has worse support on Linux. But recently Nvidia finally decided to go open source with their drivers, so we should be seeing much better support in the near future.
@@akshat8586 Open source nouveau driver for NVIDIA still isn't a thing. But official versions are fine now. They're still inferior to windows (lack of some options, no GeForce Experience) but NVIDIA finally recognized the existing client base on Linux
Hi, im thinking about buying one of those mini pcs just so I csn play emulatos on it. I won't be using it for anything else, but an emulation box hooked up to my tv and was wondering csn you recommend a version of Linux for this, or would Windows be better? I don't know a lot about PCs (as I've always been a console gamer) so I just want something easy to use where it starts up and I can go to all my emulators. The only other thing I might do on it is browse Web pages and download occasional things for the pc. The mini pc im thinking about getting is called either a Beelink ser8 or a Minisforum um790.
Linux can do emulation extremely well and almost any distro will work. But if you want the easiest experience with everything ready to go then I recommend ChimeraOS.
@@PhazerTech but that looks like its just a game library for pc games only is it? I don't own any pc games or do I want to play any (as I got a Xbox series x) and onky want to run emulators on the mini pc
@@PhazerTech thanks for that. I was watching a video about mini pcs and I remember the guy who tested it mentioned he was using something called Batocera. I'm not sure if this is spelled right, but I do remember him saying it had something to do with Linux. Have you heard of this and if so, do you think this is good, or the one you mentioned is better?
@@johnmiceter I haven't heard of it but I just looked it up and it looks good. Either one should do what you want, it just comes down to personal preference. Try both and choose the one you like more.
It is better with a more seamless experience. I wanted to consolize a PC for my son, I shelled steam big picture during few weeks but I wasn't satisfied , then I heard of Bazzite and Chimera OS, and they are game changers in terms of user experience.
Fantastic and too the point overview of how it's actually used, thank you!
So, it's basically Steam OS for non-steam devices. Too bad it doesn't support Nvidia (yet?), as many gaming PC's are build with their GPUs.

@@PhazerTechActually the NVIDIA Drivers are still closed source just the kernel modules are open source.
You can try bazzite os instead

Nobara Steam Edition works with Nvidia
Thank you.

mine would'nt continue, when I choose my wifi, battery low say please keep your device plugged in and goes back to choose wifi, I can't continue
Good video.
Will is auto detect the max tdp on your device and make it adjustable?
You can adjust the TDP by using OC tools such as CoreCtrl. I made a video guide here: th-cam.com/video/iUhht9sfG_4/w-d-xo.html
It's the same like a Windows PC with automatic starting Steam Big Picture mode.
Sort of, but on Windows you need to install drivers and software. This is already setup and ready to go.

Can I run LoL on this os?
Yes but you might need to install a special Proton version exclusively for LoL github.com/GloriousEggroll/wine-ge-custom/releases/tag/8.7-GE-1-LoL
Will fortnight run ?
No, Fortnite uses incompatible anti-cheat and doesn't work on Linux.
are these games for free or its your steam account content?
connects to your own account
Does not install. At least current release is not usable.
Did you double check the requirements (disable secure boot, etc)
@PhazerTech The machine has Fedora workstation installed pretty fine before.
@@DasJott Some distros such as this one have specific requirements that others don't.
0:23 what game is that
It's Titanfall 2. Great game and you can get it for less than $5 when it goes on sale.
