  • The Scene That Took the Benny Hill Show off the Air for Good
For decades, the Benny Hill Show was a staple of television comedy, renowned for its fast paced slapstick and cheeky humor. Hill's iconic persona and the show's signature laugh track were a global phenomenon. But behind the laughter, a darker undercurrent began to emerge. One particular sketch would irrevocably alter the show's path, igniting a firestorm of controversy that ultimately led to its demise. Let's delve into the infamous details that got the television comedy canceled.

An era of comedy that included the likes of Dame Edna that was a whole new level that comedians today can only dream of aspiring to. The brilliance and genius level of comedians like Benny Hill taught us to laugh and not take life seriously, unfortunately todays comedy is all about swearing, body functions, personal attacks and agendas called gutter comedy. Benny Hill will always be one of the best.

Just look at what is on TV these last few years - - much much worse : nudity, language, open sexual activity, degradation and immorality never seen before and yet no offenses, complaints by the pubblic - - PATHETIC Reaction for what was a cheeky banter--I'd like to hear what BEN ELTON has to say now about not only on BENNY but the sleazy, foul language of today's comedians

The Benny Hill show was aguably THE funniest and least offensive show on TV and I never missed one. Ben Elton, on the other hand was NEVER in the least bit funny. Not even slightly. Hill was a total legend.

RIP MR FUNNYMAN. I live in Australia every Benny Hill show not only l but my parents and other siblings all laughed so hard to tears. Since Benny Hill has stopped such laughter, I've never experienced it again. To the jealous young one like Ben Elton, l say you destroyed other people happiness from what l heard Ben was a flop. RIP BENNY HILL.

I watched a Benny Hill show at the BP truckstop in Zaragosa, although in Spanish I couldn't stop laughing, along with several locals, what a showman.

Ben Elton was one of the least funny dipsticks ever to foist himself on the public.
It was obvious that he was very jealous of Benny Hill's success.

Ben Elton's 'alternative comedy' = the alternative to comedy, not funny, that's why he got upset by actually funny comedy. My preferences were Monty Python, Steptoe, Fawlty Towers, Open all hours & various others - don't remember them whining about Benny Hill...

Ben Elton was and is a nobody in the comedy scale of things compared to Benny Hill, and his jealousy was why he attacked Benny Hill and the show. This whole video is rubbish, there were no scenes, jokes or humour that caused the shows demise, it was an agreement that Benny Hill himself instigated as he was getting tired and humour was changing in a way he was not geared to!

35 years since his cancelation...and i still have one episode burned in to my mind. I admit he exuded British humor to the max and I feel certain it offended many folks. But-at least for that one episode-I found myself laughing in hysterics. I'm sure his many fans would identify this episode. I just call it the wishing well scene. Honestly, it shared comedy, satire and basic British cynicism. Ok, so the idea of perversion did affect me and I ended up wiping it off my list of things to be entertained by. But all his cast were very talented...

He disliked Thames television enormously as he felt they had stabbed him in the back he told me while I was driving him from teddington to bexleyheath to visit his aunt who lived there, one thing that sticks in my mind is dropping him off at Tesco's in bexleyheath and watching him wheeler trolley around to pick up some bits and pieces for his aunt rest in peace Benny

Ben Elton was only like that because he wasn't funny and was loose tv spots to bennyhill and that was the only way Elton could get tv time spot because he was jealous and frustrated because benny Hill was getting all the great time slots and Elton was only getting late late time spots as euro trash and the goodies where beating him to it in comedy and Elton was looseing audience amounts were at the all time lows attacking sir benny hill was the only way he had to knock him of the top spots the only way possible shamefull attempt to win

Ben Elton had very little if any talent - a dull man! Benny was loaded with talent and gave us decades of laughs. Unfortunately, times changed and the moral code changed - probably Benny was out of date. But look at the people who thrived - Jimmy Saville etc. where was the moral standard?

Ben Elton was a new breed of comedian who blew a lot of tired old programmes off the air. Something that annoyed the establishment was his left wing direction and his challenging material and big attraction to a younger audience. He contributed to Blackadder and authored several funny books.. and yes I was a big Benny Hill fan too. I've seen a couple of documentaries where one of his female cast claimed to look after his comforts !

He made Thames over 100 million pounds and he never left, he was fired by a bitter Monty Python producer John Howard Davies who pretended to leave the BBC as a freelance but was in fact on a mission to destroy the competition from within and he did destroy Thames firing 300 staff and making deliberately terrible programs like Andy Capp sending viewers to the BBC and then he went back to the BBC not so freelance after all.
