I can understand the film's take on Jan could be confronting after growing up alongside that role. That film was a mind-bending blast though, the way it contrasted the eras. There was a mix of ridicule and deep affection for the original.
Christine was amazing. My favorite line of the first movie was when they were arguing and Mike said calm down, one at a time. and Marcia (Chrisine) says. "Alright, I'll go first because I'm the prettiest" LMAO. I loved it.
I like that Ms. McCormick sometimes mistook Ms. Taylor for HER onscreen. I'm disappointed that Ms. Plumb chose never to view the movies, especially since Ms. Cox expressed such admiration for Ms. Plumb's work on the original show.
@@Billy_Lenz Hey you're right, that's a lot of "Ms."s. They sound a little silly all together like that. Not my intention. When I comment about "household name" celebrities, I like to use their titles as way of observing a respectful distance, and to remind mostly myself to avoid the temptation to think or talk like I actually know them, and not to mix up actors with their characters. I'm especially self-conscious about this concerning the "Brady" cast, since their characters were so relatable when I was a little kid watching them.
The movie was one of the best parodies made to this day. So well done on so many levels. Christine WAS Maureen, but somehow even MORE so. And Jennifer Elise Cox was phenomenally funny. And I'd say the 2nd one was a lot more than "meh" as well. The storyline of Marcia & Greg is classic!
When I heard this movie was coming out I thought 'geez, can't they leave anything alone...' but when I finally saw it I loved it. The Bradys - moved up 20 or 25 years and still wearing the same clothes, same cars, same music, and oblivious! But we don't laugh at them any more than we laugh WITH them. One of my favorite 90's films.
The original Brady Kids I will always love but those movies were BRILLIANT. I loved the first and second actually. When I saw Christine I thought “Oh my she really DOES look like Maureen McCormick”. My fave part in the first movie was when Anne B Davis made a cameo in the truck and Jan was hearing voices STILL; the usual “Marcia Marcia Marcia “ and then out of nowhere comes this scary Jan voice “wanna go knock over a 7/11?” Oh man I CRIED with laughter. In the second movie was when Greg and Marcia were sharing the attic and Marcia looks at Greg taking his shirt off (he had said her name) and in this SULTRY deep voice she says “Yes Greg?” And they both freeze. Another hilarious scene! And no I didn’t like the third one either!
During the original show, the Brady kids bonded with the daughters of Robert Reed and Florence Henderson. Its so sweet that Susan mentioned Reed's daughter loving Gary Cole's performance.
Gary Cole is a serious actor who came out of The Steppenwolf Theater with Malkovich, Gary Sinise, John Mahoney, Joan Allen, Laurie Metcalf, and Glenne Headly to name a few.
Couple of them cameoed in movie. Barry was a music executive who turned down Gregs music, Christopher Knight was a gym teacher who saved Peter from being beat up and i think Mike Lookinland and Susan Olsen had cameos that never made final cut.

During a time when so many straightforward TV series based movies were coming out, The Brady Bunch Movie was a hilarious breath of fresh air! The entire cast was brilliant as was Betty Thomas as director.
Yeah. I don't see how the second one was a decline in quality. Whether you think they were good or bad, they seemed equal in quality. I didn't know there was a third one.
@@peregrino9154 I didn't either, so I looked it up - The Brady Bunch Movie was 1995, followed by A Very Brady Sequel in 1996. The third movie, which sounds terrible, was The Brady Bunch in the White House, which aired on Fox in November 2002 as a made-for-television film.
Jan (Eve) always seems so bitter in these interviews. How could anyone not see a movie that portrayed you as one of the main characters? I'm sure she watched it the first day but just doesn't want to admit it because the movie poked a lot of fun at her. Lighten up! There is an older interview where she actually gets annoyed at fans asking her questions about the Brady Bunch. I think she's jealous because Marsha got most of the attention on and off the show. Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!
No one likes to be poked fun at so if it isn't you it is easy to say "lighten up." In truth the character of Jan, actually stole the show for that whole move (with the character of Marcia coming in a close second).
I'm interested to know if Christopher Knight ever had an answer to what he thought of the movies? He had a cameo in the first one, it seems like whenever the cast is asked this question we never hear his answer
That’s not unpopular at all. The actor who played Peter in the Brady movies said more people have told him they liked the sequel more than the first one and even Jan from the Brady movies said a lot of people like the sequel more.
Andy shoulda done a five-parter with the cast. Be interesting to know how their off-screen relationships differed. Also felt like the Cast was brushed aside by the show - though I know that to be more about time constraints. They were trying to hurry "Marcia" up towards the end - i.e. time slot ending - but "Marcia" didn't know - so went into the longer anecdote. Production exec's grinding their teeth. Next time give the Show and the Cast?.... the respect it deserves.
Aww love this! I had no idea there was a third movie?! And yes Marcia in the movie looked so much like Maureen McCormick! I remember when I first saw the Brady bunch movie as a kid, I think Christine Taylor was Maureen McCormick lol! I’m like is that the “real” Marcia?! Haha Ya eve plumb doesn’t seem too happy here lol
I actually think The Brady Bunch Movie is one of the reasons why Eve sometimes comes across as so cold towards the show. I don't believe her when she says she didn't see the movie, and if she truly didn't, she must have heard about how Jan was portrayed in the film. In the movie, they really play up the Jan character as the "ugly duckling" and the "black sheep" of the family. Yes, it was a parody and all the characters were exaggerated, but it probably upset Eve that her character was turned into a punch line. Even though the movie did turn Jan into a character you root for, she was still heavily derided throughout and the portrayal was not flattering. Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of The Brady Bunch, was one of the producers of that film, so he obviously approved the way the characters were. I think Eve took it personal.
In the Brady Bunch movie - I would hardly call the character of Jan (or the actress who played her OR Eve Plumb herself) as an ugly duckling. In fact, in final year of the show, Eve Plumb actually looked better than Maureen McCormick. Additionally, the real Maureen McCormick wasn't as hot as Christine Taylor. And the Marcia character in the movie was exaggerated to be more hot than she actually was - because of the actress who played her.
I think they got it wrong. I love the first movie but the second movie is funnier in terms of the jokes. How could you not love "oh, my god! I'm tripping with the Brady's!" or "Oh Marcia, Marcia, Marcia, you have grown up to be so gorgeous!" "I know!" "and Jan, my dear Jan!...Isn't Marcia gorgeous?!"
I always wished Ann B. Davis had played Alice in the movie. That would've been funny to get one of the original cast members to play their same character in the spoof movie.
Most of the original Brady cast always say the first movie was better. I remember even Florence Henderson said she never saw the sequel because she heard it wasn't good. They all think that because the sequel made fun of the show much more and that's what they didn't like. Many people people myself included like the sequel more because it throws caution to the wind and just has fun with it's silly premise. The original movie gets too bogged down trying to be respectable.
Maureen saying she forgot she wasn't watching herself on screen as Marcia during the movie is pretty self-congratulatory considering how hot the future Mrs. Ben Stiller was.
Eve Plumb still takes herself way too seriously, lighten up, man, if she'd not been on the show no one would care after all these decades...it's not like her acting was ever that great anyway....
You're right about Eve Plumb. I think she would have liked to be done with The Brady Bunch after the original show ended, but she was never in anything else that was successful enough that she could leave it behind. So to still have any career in show business she had to be part of the franchise.
