I agree also. I liked the other characters, especially Mr. Brady, but Jan in this movie was the star. And to me the movie actually seemed to revolve around her. Sadly she didn't do much in terms of acting after this movie, but she was amazing in it.

I love how school therapist RuPaul is initially disappointed that Jan's problem is something as banal as looking goofy in glasses, and then she brightens up at the prospect of Jan being schizophrenic. "Inner voices? Good! That's good--let's explore that!"
The trucker at the end is so definitely the original Alice! I love this parody, the actress that played Jan is hilarious! :) Also random RuPaul cameo for the win!
Loved this movie, well the second time I watched it as I realized it was a parody of the series. Ann B Davis appearing as a cameo as the trucker was a clever add, loved the progression of the Jan character into a full blown psychopath,

I remember me and my smoker homies went to see this in the drive in and hot boxed the car...we were laughing our asses off..it was in 95 a year after high school graduation...shit was fun as hell
Yeah, the show took itself seriously (for a comedy, that is), but the movies were satire and camped it up. On the show, Jan also suffers from middle child syndrome and is insecure of her perceived flaws and jealous of Marcia.
Different era. Family sitcoms like the Brady Bunch, Family Affair and the Partridge Family were the last of their kind. They never really took themselves seriously and as society changed they were abruptly cancelled and replaced with a different kind of genre That was more realistic and socially relevant like All in the Family, Maude, The Jeffersons, Good Times, One Day at a Time, Family, and even Mary Tyler Moore. The movies were true parodies of a show that was insulated from reality that they were funny as hell.
By "taking themselves seriously," I meant that THE BRADY BUNCH show was too earnest in trying portray an idealized world at the time. But the sexual revolution of the late '60s and the New Hollywood meant that audiences wanted more 'realistic' portrayals of life/family/love.
Jennifer Elise Cox nailed this character so much that it's almost creepy. Even just her walking at 0:35 - you could swear that was really Eve Plumb... 😲

Because I was still a young kid when this movie came out, AND I watched reruns of actual Brady Bunch episodes on TV, I always got these mixed up in my head like I could have sworn Jan really does cut Marcia's hair in the TV show but that was in the movie.
