Tom Hiddleston was born to play Loki. Just…ugh….when he cries in that scene with Anthony Hopkins as Odin, just heartbreaking.

Things you should know about Thor. Odin is not a good person he is a tyrant that chose to be a benevolent ruler. Odin is so powerful he does not truly sleep. The once a year Odin must sleep to recharge his power. The reason Odin being so sick is because he was putting of the odin sleep due to the offense of war. Loki was abandoned due to his small size. The reason Odin kept Loki was due to the fact that the second Loki saw someone else's face other than the frost Giants he shapeshift to look similar to Odin. That's how Odin knew Loki was special then he used his magic to turn Loki into Asgardian permanently that's why Loki never knew he was a frost giant until another Frost giant tried to frostbite his arm which turn his skin back to normal.
“Hi I’m Thor your friendly neighborhood god of thunder” was the line. We used to hear. All the time. Missed it so much.

Loki: the ultimate momma’s boy with massive daddy issues. In his defense, Odin really is absolute garbage in regards to being a dad lol.
I mean.. I've seen plenty of dads who were way way worse... He also has to be a king on top of that, which naturally complicates things... And while arguably he wasn't great to his first born in this universe, he's arguably a reasonable father to Thor and Loki... He was there, he may have been harsh at times, but he also showed love... He came to save them when they were in trouble... He was far from perfect, but absolute garbage? I don't know...
I actually love the character of Loki, because he's such a nuanced character! He's been lied to and misunderstood his whole life! I'm not surprised he's got so much rage
I like how Kenneth Branagh used his past in Shakespeare to make this movie, with kings, princes, betrayal and scheming

Loki is probably one of the character with longest character development in MCU movies. Even more than Thor himself. It is a journey.

@13:52 It is said that Sir Anthony Hopkins was delivering such a powerful performance in this scene that Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston were reacting and weeping for real. No acting was necessary on their parts. Sir Anthony is indeed one of the best.
Mjolnir is one of the most badass pieces of hero equipment. Right up there with Iron Man's suit and Cap's shield. The fact that it can only be wielded by someone its enchantment deems worthy is pretty symbolic and awesome.

Loki is a much more interesting villain than Iron Monger, Abomination, Whiplash, or Red Skull. (Although in all fairness, Red Skull was far more interesting in the comics than in the movies.)
I like how Anthony Hopkins says "But you're not king" with a smile on his face and a Londoners "Ya" instead of "You're". A real slap in the face that young, cocky Thor needed.

This movie made me a fan of a character that I never liked and never really got, him being a god among superheroes. But Hemsworth and co. absolutely made Thor click for me. And I swear, Heimdall's otherworldly presence was one of the coolest damn things about this movie!
I like you guys showing some sympathy for Loki at least. He is a tragic character and I personally love when someone can see things from his perspective, how he's been lied to and so on.
But now, can't wait for you guys to react to Captain America (my personal fave mcu character).
The Norse gods in Marvel were loosely based on the Norse mythology. Thor was the protector of mankind. He was married to Sif. Loki the god of mischief was not adopted brother of Thor, he was the blood brother to Odin. He was half giant and half god. Lauffey was not his father but was gender changed. Lauffey was Loki's mother.
Loki also gender swaps and births both Nidhogg (the midgard serpent) and Fenrir the wolf. (in the "real" story, not in the MCU)

Fenrir, Jörmungandr, and Hel were, all three, children of Loki and the female jötunn Angrboða. Loki did gender swap into a mare as part of a scheme to upset an agreement between to gods and a builder, ultimately giving birth to the eight-legged steed of Odin, Sleipnir.

i had no idea how they were going to pull off a movie about this character given his fantastical underpinnings...i was blown away by how well they executed it, how well it fit into the reality of the rest of the Avengers story lines, and what an amazing movie this ended up being...

I almost left the video thinking it was an old reaction... but then i remembered that it feels recent that your gf is in them, so it must not be too old. It was pretty cute the face that your gf caught it and made that expression. It took a while to get used to the change, but now I love seeing you both together.

it moved that fast in the comics once, but is usually depicted as moving far slower. And the MCU is a different uuniverse from the comics.
Even though this is so different than Mythology is still find it endlessly entertaining. The guy with bow will be back in future movies.
In the old comics neither was the son of Frigga, they were both sons of Odin, Loki had a frost giant mother & Thor had a Earth goddess as his mother, when they switch to 'the Ultimates' storyline this was closer to that story.

Thor was my favorite comic book superhero when I was reading and collecting comics from the early '60s to the early '90s, because the comics didn't offer any implausible pseudoscientific explanations for Thor's abilities. They called it magic, by which they essentially admitted that they didn't understand it.
The guy that discovers the hammer in the desert is modern THOR comic writer J Michael Straczynski (also creator of the show Babylon 5) and one of the celebrating Asgardians at the end is Walt Simonson, regarded as the greatest THOR comic writer of all time and the one that defined the character far beyond anyone else.
Loki is such a snake, and they filmed him perfectly. It's very subtle, but at 6:27 you can catch a look of 'gotcha biatch' in his eyes, but he plays it straight until he springs his trap. Good acting. I also thought the Destroyer armor design was cool. There's a very good backstory to it in the books if you're interested. (The same is true for most of the major plot points in these films, and the related books are usually more interesting.) "How can you kill it?" Honest answer, you can't. It's a suit of magical armor forged by Odin and the other 'Sky Fathers' and it's practically indestructible. It was even a herald of Galactus at one point.

Baby Loki in the frost giant temple was meant to be a sacrifice to help the war effort. He was small as a frost giant and as such, rejected by King Laufey. That made Laufey's decision to sacrifice him easy. Odin put a stop to it, and adopted Loki - basically saving Loki's life.

In the comics, Dr. Donald Blake was Thor's mortal identity, established by Odin when he was exiled. Blake was quite frail and walked with a cane, which was Mjolner in disguise. Apparently in the MCU, Blake was considerably more robust, since his clothes fit Thor!

I love tom hiddleston as loki, he has definitely been my favorite mcu character. I'm loving seeing your reactions to these movies.
I think part of what hurt Loki the most was that three days on earth taught Thor what Loki had likely been trying to teach him for a while now.
All I know about Tom Hiddleson's casting as Loki is that he initially auditioned for Thor, but after seeing how much Chris Hemsworth had to eat (like, a whole entire chicken every day) and workout to convincingly portray the physical stature of a literal god, he thought "Nah. I'll just be Loki instead".
NOT quite. Yes, Tom Hiddleston auditioned for Thor, as did a number of other actors....including Liam Hemsworth (Chris Hemsworth's brother). According to the director Kenneth Brannaugh, Tom gave a good audition as Thor, but Kenneth felt that Tom would be better suited to play Loki.
Reportedly, Liam and Chris Hemsworth were both neck-in-neck for the role of Thor right down to the wire.
(P.S. There is a TH-cam video out there in the "ether" --- Thor: The Dark World pun intended---- showing Tom Hiddleston's audition for the part of Thor, showing him thrusting the hammer above his head with great conviction.q

The story about Tom seeing how much Chris had to eat is just that. A story I heard from either a Fact Fiend video, or a clip I saw from 'The Graham Norton show'. We can never know every facet of the full story if we weren't there. I was just trying not to make a long comment like this, lol.

This was extraordinary to watch in the cinema, especially the 3-D version of the starscapes. Completely encompassing and magical. The Shakespearean nature of the relationship between Thor and Loki keep the Thor films in my top favorite Marvel movies ever, along with Guardians of the Galaxy and Iron Man. The 2nd Thor movie is absolutely my favourite. While Thor and Jane’s relationship fizzled onscreen due to Natalie Portman obviously not wanting to be there for whatever reason, the Thor - Loki relationship in 2 is so complexly layered with love and pain, love and hate, love and envy. It’s dynamic and charismatic and carries that movie and sparks other Avengers movies. Platonic love, family love really can be as powerful and moving as romantic love.
I remember my dad telling me about this movie. He watched it before me and liked it very much. Ironically he never liked comic books, you may say he even despised them in total. But he didn't know this was based on one 😅
Loki's scene on the stair with Odin is the scene that made me fall in love with Tom Hiddleston

Sif is Thor's wife in the myths, but considerably different than she is here. The Warriors Three were totally from the comics, created by Stan Lee: Fandral was based on Robin Hood, Hogun was based on a bunch of Charles Bronson movie characters, and Volstag was based on Falstaff (from Shakespeare's Henry IV plays).
Loki's character arc, imho, is the most glorious of all in the MCU. 🤴

In mythology Loki shaved Sif's long, blonde hair while she slept. Thor was pissed when he came home to a bald wife!
