It is a supercar that was Japan released in 1984 that bore the soul of what "Made In Japan" meant. Up until then, there were no interesting cars like this. At the time, we were more or less already about to switch over to FF cars, Toyota had the balls to put out a 1.6L FR again, so naturally we were all over it. In regards to that, TRD provided us with a car that had gear ratios, suspension, intake/exhaust systems and whatever else that were derived from traditional racing, rally, gymkhana, and dirt trial, through which we then combine as if it were a puzzle. There's nothing like this with any other manufacturer. Even if you search the world, there isn't another manufacturer that makes so many different parts just for this one car. I've not seen nor heard of it. Anyway, we took what we had tuned during that era, shoved into an FT86, made it a 2L and now we're here. That's why it is unmistakably of the same bloodline of the AE86. If it wasn't, we wouldn't have been able to bestow the 86 name upon it. There was a strong desire that it absolutely had to be an extension of the AE86. There is nothing but high hopes and expectations for the GT86. There's no way there wouldn't be.
I didn't bother translating the rest because I'm not interested and it's the same first impressions that every other car reviewer has probably already expressed.
The GT86/ GR86 is a fallacy. Sure it had its place for people wanting a cheap FR platform to play around with. But it is hardly the AE86 that it is supposed to replace. Someone is trying to hard to make the GT86 a logical successor. It just isn't. It is a 2 door Subaru sports car without a turbo.
The car that subliminally replaced the AE86 and also Celica GT4 is actually the GR Yaris. 1.6L legacy engine capacity and nimble capability from AE86, and AWD & power from GT4. If there were no more cars similar that could exist after GR Yaris, i'm fine with that. The electric cars today already pushed the door fully open and announced to every combustion engine cars, that even sedans can demolish hypercars.
The last final push for the JDM sports cars would be the 2023 Nissan Z. At least Nissan made an effort to develop a REAL successor the old Z cars.
Lets not talk about the rebadged Z4 pretending to be a Supra .... Which toyota could make from any of its Lexus RWD catalog.

My Japanese is a little rough since I grew up here in the states but I understood most of what Keiichi Tsuchiya said and he said a lot of good things about it.

@@RylisPro dam, I’ve been waiting since September, one place offered me a core at msrp a month later, I said no. Then just last week another dealer finally got a premium manual but it wasn’t a color I wanted, light blue. Crazy times were in. 😅

And, even better, a convertible version (learn from 300zx). Just because you don't say anything about sunroof yet, I'm still hesitating whether to get this or M240i which is twice the price.

The GR86 eliminated thw GT's Tourqe Curve and added 20PS. This is exactly the same thing as an ECU Reflash off tye internet.
It's a shame we won't get either Subaru BRZ or Toyota GR86 thanks to Toyota loving to sell rebadged Suzuki's🙂
