Just got a huntsman mini for 60 usd and this is by far the best sounding modded huntsman mini ive heard on youtube. Can’t wait to try out the mods once i get back home
So glad I found your video! I got my Huntsman Mini a couple months ago and am ready to venture into the world of modding! Your video was super helpful, especially how you show that you can drastically improve the sound *without* taking all the switches out of the board like I've seen so many other videos go into. This makes it feel a lot more accessible (and way less scary lol) for a first-time mechanical keyboard modder like myself, and now I can't wait to give it a go! I'll definitely be taking a look at your other videos! Thanks and take care! :)
I bought the huntsman mini a couple months ago and this video will really help me out with modding this keyboard and u explain everything super good Thanks for the help! bye bye:)
got my huntsman for $40 canadian, so very cheap. decided to mod it today. used painters tape, foam from a gpu box, and gel wd40 for the stabilizers. sounds the same as this honestly. had to cut the foam where the stabilizers were and for the cables on the inside but its absolutely perfect for free mods.
i just bought my huntsman tournament edition and was thinking about doing just that ! me being a beginner makes your guide a real benediction, but i only have krytox 205g0 for lubing, does it work on the stabilisators ?
Glad the video helped!! I don’t have my krytox on hand, but I have a feeling it should work since a lot of people use 205g0 on regular stabs. Might even be better but can’t say for sure since I haven’t tried it out yet
I see most people say that huntsman mini purple switches are too bad but in my opinion is better than red ! Because i think we buy mechanical keyboards for its sound and im not a professional player to buy a red switches ( they faster than purple) so if you want buy huntsman mini buy a purple one the sound is pretty good and it wasn't loud that you see in other videos
I totally get where you're coming from! I actually have several keyboards, one of them has Kailh box jade switches. Best clicky switches available I think, just not optical. There is something incredibly satisfying about that heavy click and the sharp sound they make. What sounds good to one person may not be what another likes, if you like clicky switches totally go for it! I would say be careful lubing clicky switches though. If you follow my recommendation and only add thick lube to the switch stabilizers you'll be fine, but as others show to lube the whole stem I would avoid that. You can actually lose that clickiness and tactility if you lube the stem on clicky switches.
can i follow your video if i have the Huntsman Mini Analog version? also another question: can I switch out the switches to something else? or will I lose the analog effect?
You should be able to yes. I would advise against taking out the switches, I can’t confirm but I assume the switches are tuned to work specifically with the PCB for the variable reset points. I actually just bought the analog once they announce the rapid trigger! Very excited to test it out
great video! I have this but in purple switches and was thinking of switching out the purple with razers red switches... do you think something like this is possible?
Technically possible, you'd have to take off the top plate but the switches pop out easily enough. I've seen them available on ebay and aliexpress, you'd just have to figure the price of the switches and shipping and see if it's worth it. And you'd have to be absolutely sure the switches are razer optical switches.
GunMjo PBT keycaps, got them on Amazon. Heads up, I went to swap the keycaps out after finishing up the review ant they are real stiff. If you use them on a hotswap board, pulling them off may pull out the switches too. Wouldn’t damage anything, it might be tedious. If you don’t swap keycaps, still really like them though.
Hail my bro, can you tell me if the keycaps in the OSA profile work on the hutsman mini? I found a very beautiful set, but the profile is OSA. Great video, greetings from Brazil.
What up dude! That’s a hard one, huntsman mini’s optical switches have Cherry style stems but the stabilizers can cause compatibility issues (especially shorter profiles). I don’t have OSA keycaps to test it with so I’m not sure. If the OSA cap dimensions are similar to OEM then you will probably be good to go
Thanks! For sure, 100% agree, it’s hands down probably the best gaming keyboard available at the moment. But it’s only available in pre-order batches and is pricier. But it’s definitely worth the price, honestly I think they could get away with charging a bit more for it. This is just a more available and affordable beginner gaming keyboard is all I’m saying 👍
Yeah, the sound you’re hearing is probably the dampening silicone on the switches. Not as crisp a clack or as satisfying sounding as regular linears, but if you’re streaming or just want to keep noise down these are nice.
Oh yeah, neither would I, I say not to in the video. My advice is just to lube the stabilizers on the switches. I’ve tried it before with PTFE spray lube and it really wasn’t worth it, a lot of work for very minimal benefit

Aw heck that’s a really good deal, congrats! Thank you! Good luck modding! Feel free to drop back in and comment if you have any questions

Is that a Goliath Beetle on your desk?
Super close! It’s a Hercules beetle.
great video!

It says tape mod on timestamps but you never did a tape mod
What is the name of the key caps

Please do an update for the new V3
Man I’m really tempted to. These reviews are getting more and more expensive hahaha. The movement feature looks incredible on it.
nice modding but the wooting 60HE it's just a better product, also the software.

dont like final effect, sounds super mushy

@max hehe thanks man!
Well I wouldn't lube the switches on Huntsman Mini
