    Some commenters seem to think Trudeau is ground-zero for our current problems. He is not my choice for PM, but there were other political antecedents that have brought us to where we are now, and not always Liberal. Resorting to easy labels like Laurentian elites and woke only discourages real debate. Canada needs a new government, but not one that runs on caustic labels or broken promises.

Trudeau would likely stay on as Opposition Leader like his father waiting for Poilievre's government to collapse because his denial of climate change makes him have enemies in every other Opposition party sitting in the house. If Poilievre with a minority Government tries to follow through by axing the carbon tax without offering a credible alternative plan the Liberals, Bloc, NDP and Greens won't hesitate to disrupt everything else he does and defeat him in any confidence motion or Budget bill. Joe Clark's inability to pass his first Budget in a Minority mandate made him the shortest tenured elected PM in Canadian history and made Pierre Trudeau put his retirement plans aside and win another majority mandate.

    While Mr. Cardy's message does mostly hit the nail on the head I fear that it is the incorrect way to go about things. I don't think a new political party is the right option. Though we will see how this plays out. Right now, to me, this seems like a dubious move, similar to Mr. Bernier's party though Mr. Cardy's (in my eyes) has much more legitimacy.

    • @Arkhanno

      The root issue we have is that we are using a FPTP system of elections. A party with 25% of the votes can control 100% of the power. That is wrong. FPTP also tends towards a two party system over time, as we can see in the US. If we had a more proportional system then I don't think we would be seeing such fringe comments take centre stage as often because politicians would know that they would need a much larger chunk of votes in order to keep their seat.

    • @yl9154
      @yl9154 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I remember correctly, Bernier's party cam across more populist, demagogic than centrist. Maybe a little outlandish too. He would not have appealed much to moderate/centrist Conservatives or Liberals. In fact, I think he was maybe more in line with today's Conservatives. But I could be wrong. And I don't think his timing was right. The Conservative had not made their right turn yet and Trudeau still had some "Trudeaumania 2.0" going for him. Now Trudeau is very low in the poll, possibly more than his party. Poilievre is comings very strong with the right fringe, but I am not sure he is so popular with "Harper-like", moderate, conservatives, especially the "law and order" ones who may not have appreciate his support for the brown-shirts in Ottawa's streets. And a new center party may well bring out the votes of those that are "sick and tired" of both the Conservatives and the Liberal/NDP and don't normally vote anymore. We will see!

    The reporter said "you dont score a lot of goals from the centre ice". Its a nice quote but applies to hockey and not politics.
    In Canadian politics, and maybe other systems, the "sweet centre" is what gets you to power. Why? Because the average Canadian is not polarized ,as are some fringe groups, and always seeks the most balanced party to vote for. The Centre is what Stephen Harper re-focused when he realized that the Reform Party vision does not ring a bell with the rest of Canada because it was too on the right which immediately narrows your focus.
    Neither the left, right or centre can claim they know everything and are the sole legitimate solution. But the Centre is the best positioned of them all to balance social policy and market interests and thus have a more holistic approach to politics. Usually the left is just social policy and tax the rich, while the right is no social policy and reduce and no tax for the rich (I'm simplifying for the sake of my example!)
    I wish all Canadians less or no polarization, more "reasonables" and acceptance as is the Canadian way!!

      Actually we do genius. Canada suffers from an aging population and declining birth rates. I think by 2030 we will have a ratio of one retired person over 65 to one working Canadian. That means Old Age Security, Private Pension plans, and multiple Provincial Healthcare systems will not be sustainable. Harper’s solution to this impending problem was to raise the retirement age to 67 by 2023 which would be the present. Trudeau said no there is another way Canada can raise more tax revenue and the # of taxpayers by increasing immigration and increasing child benefits to incentivize Canadians both native and new to have more children who will be the taxpayers of tomorrow. 😂

So the person has a legitimate, reasonable point in that respect. Do you think you will win him over by insulting his intelligence with that sarcastic "Actually we do genius"? Or just make him even more radicalized in his anti-immigration beliefs? Insulting him may be satisfying to your ego, but it is counter-productive in convincing people of your reasonable opinion.

      Legalization of cannabis, Negotiated CUSMA, joined the Paris agreement, invested in alternative energy sources, managed pandemic, promotes reconciliation and raised awareness by creating Truth and reconciliation day, promoted female politicians, child care support, banned 1,500 guns. Has kept more campaign promises for any PM since 1985. I never even voted for him but I can separate facts from make-believe so my opinion has been somewhat unique these days. @@troytighe1214

      Charlene, why? Give us specific reasons. Trudeau was so supportive of First Nations that he went surfing in Tofino on Reconciliation Day. He also fired the Native woman Attorney General when she refused his illegal demands.

    • @nuxkamina
      @nuxkamina ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1. He was trying not to get divorced in Tofino and he prioritized his family. He talked that day about how reconciliation starts with your family. This issue requires communities and individuals to reconcile. 2. Not firing someone because they are first nations is called racism and it is illegal. Besides that her name is Jody Wilson-Raybould and she resigned. @@Jon.Morimoto

      @@nuxkamina You could teach a masterclass in mendacious spin.
      You made up the family drama anecdote, and it doesn't help your case given what has occurred since.
      You pretend that there were legitimate reasons for Jody Wilson-Raybould to be removed from the Minister of Justice and Attorney General position, yet you cite no reasons. She did not resign as MOJ and AG, as Trudeau's cabinet order demoted her to Veterans. The next month, she resigned as Veterans Minister under pressure as she was forbidden from speaking truthfully while in Cabinet.
      Parliament of Canada Ethics Commissioner Mario Dion issued a report that concluded that Trudeau had contravened Section 9 of the federal Conflict of Interest Act by improperly pressuring Wilson-Raybould. That's truth based on evidence. Even SNC-Lavalin is ashamed of the lawbreaking, as the corporation later changed its name.
      I acknowledge that many Canadians support policies that the Liberal Party embraces but I ask them to consider better alternatives as their leader. While all currently proclaim loyalty to the Boss, there must be some person of moral quality, experience, and sincerity willing to improve Canada by reforming Liberalism.

      Nuclear power is safer than many alternatives? Even if there’s a meltdown… Canada has flood areas as large or larger than the Chernobyl exclusion zone for hydro power multiple times. With how rare meltdowns are, I’d say it wins vs hydro.
