Romania Road Trip Day 8 - Hiking Around Lacul Bâlea After Trouble Getting To Negoiu Trailhead

- I wasted a couple of hours in the morning driving over rocks and through deep mud on the access road to the Negoiu Trailhead. Ultimately I gave up and turned the car around. Instead I drove back up the Transfăgărășan to Lake Bâlea. Frome there I climbed to the top of the ridge where I got a good look at Negoiu in the distance. I found out too late the Negoiu could be reached from the lake!

No worries about the pronunciations! Nobody is expected to pronounce everything right in every foreign language.
As an FYI, going to Negoiu via your first route is quite challenging, as you're climbing basically almost the whole height of the mountain. Also be aware you'll be for a long stretch in the woods in bear country, so it'd be preferable not to be alone on the trail.
Going to Negoiu from the top of Lake Balea is a bit challenging too, but you won't have to gain so much altitude as from the other side (your first attempt). Start early in the morning to have enough time to return to your car before nightfall. Carry the minimum weight possible in your backpack. Not too much water, as you'll find fresh water sources along the way. Again, you shouldn't be alone on the trail (not because of bears since you're way above the tree line, but many other factors), hookup with others going that way, just ask - Romanians are easily approachable and will include you into the group without issues.

Yes, but didn't see any. There are probably too many people in that area for bears to hang around.

I'm from the mountains in Canada. We use bear proof garbage cans which prevent bears from frequently visiting populated areas to look for food. Of course bears are clever and there are other sources of food. They are challenging to deal with!

Every video you posted in Romania was spoiled by all the whining and complaining ... If you are into hiking why not join a group, hire a guide, go to an organised trail like Via Transilvanica (it has 1400 km with google street images)... disappointed
