Getting a chance to drive transfagarasan highway, or the most beautiful road in the world is a dream come true and it was (Almost) exactly as we expected!
After spending a couple of weeks exploring beautiful Romania we turned ourselves toward the biggest goal we had in this country, the Transfagarasan. This beautiful road took four years and 5000 tons of dynamite blasting through mountains to build. It is simply the greatest driving road in the world and really lives up to it's moniker!
If you ever find yourself anywhere close to this area of Europe, do yourself a favour, rent a car and drive this incredible driving road. You wont be disappointed. Just make sure you see the rest of Romania too. it's incredible!

BTW, if you climb the steep (!) path above Bâlea Lac, there is a ridge where you can stick your hand out and touch a cloud as it forms and shoots straight up. It's also fun if you can schedule your trip to coincide with the bicycle races they hold there -- park long before they close the road for the race, pack a picnic from the meats, breads, cheeses and spreads sold along the roadway, and watch the pro riders pound up the serpentine. Then hike a bit, watch a stunning sunset, and go to the hotel on the lake for bean soup in a bread bowl, and papanași for dessert, plus a glass of Țuică made from the local fruits. It's a good way to spend a day.
Woah, this whole itinerary sounds amazing. We had no idea about any of it. Maybe we didn't pick the best time of day/year to go to the lake because we didn't see much! would have been so cool to see the cloud form and shoot straight up!

haha, the water of Balea Lake could never be dirty. I once was there in august, left from 31 degrees celsius in Bucharest to 13 at Balea. No one swims there, it's just too cold. Maybe only those explorers trying all kinds of crazy things to do 😂
other than that, it Trans-Fa-Ga-Ra-Shan, means the road that crosses Fă-Gă-Raș (pronounced kinda "Fuh-Guh-Rush") mountains. They contain the highest peak of Romania, Moldoveanu Peak (2544 meters above sea level).

There are more nice roads like Transalpina (highest romanian road), Transrarau... You also should visit Danube Delta (but also all Dobrogea region), monasteries from Bucovina, cities of Sighisoara, Brasov, Sibiu, strongholds of Râșnov, Rupea, Făgăraș, Neamț, Enisala, Deva, Alba Carolina etc. It's nice to see foreign tourists excited by our beloved country.
We visited sighisoara and tried a bunch of local food their, it was amazing!
We have also seen Rasnov and the area around Brasnov! Videos should be on our channel! The rest of it We haven't seen but really want to come back and do it all!!
Blowing the budget on the hire car is now definitely worth it

Good luck on your continuing journey now you have left Romania. The joy you had in the mountains and the delight the donkeys brought was heartwarmingly infectious. Romanian language is part of Romance languages evolved from "vulgar Latin" with also a small touch of Slavic influence... so absolutely nobody expects you to pronounce anything perfectly.

To see bears,it is best to travel the road in oposite direction...To start frome Sibiu end and go toword Curtea de Arges.Bears are usualy in forested portion before the dam,but they exit on the road little bit later in the day...If travel that part in the morning,are less chanses to see them.

Constanta is awesome if you drive the Transfăgărășan and Transalpina Trip it's actually like a big Race on two Passes to cross the Carpathians and then come from the mountains down to the Dobrogea Area at the Back Sea latest at Highway A2 Autostrada Soarelui You gonna have goosebombs as the Name is not for nothing the Highway of the Sun 🌞

Amazing! We are planning to do it this summer and wondering... How long did it actually take you, including stops? Google says 3-4 hours from curtea de arges to castelul de lut valea zanelor but without stops and anyway I'd think longer...
I'd add an extra hour or two for stops, maybe even more haha

Timișoara is amazing! We spent the most time there (a few days before the trip and a couple after as well!)

Can you drive from Brasov to Transfagarasan,and how long it will take to reach the lake? And is there any cellular network coverage in the area?
Google says you can and it would take about 3 hrs 47 up to 4 hrs 44 depending on your route.
Not too sure on the cell service though!
