I'm so excited for this! People seem to be big mad that it doesn't have an internal tuner and that it's only 6/10 watts, but it's exactly what I was hoping Yaesu would do.
Exactly. If you want a 100 Watt radio buy a 100 Watt radio. QRP is a whole different class/world of radios which is what this is. From what I have seen it looks perfect as the QRP shack in the box. Actually better than perfect. It has a HUGE on board battery compared to the IC-705.
Thank you for the preview. I absolutely love my Yaesu 818ND, FT-991A, and FT-710. However, I might have to pass on this one. My IC-705 was an impressive investment with the addition of an AH-705, a tag-along ID-52 and several high capacity batteries. At least until I learn more, my use case just does not give me enough reason to take the plunge. If I had not purchased the IC-705 and painfully waited for this rig…..maybe. But then I would have missed years of great portable QRP contacts that I really believe would have been missed out on with my 818.
I'm curious if they'll come up with alternate backs including things like amplifiers to let this unit get away from merely being a low-power QRP radio. It could be a convenient radio for mobile use with YSF for the 2m/70cm bands plus 6m/HF in a package that doesn't take up nearly as much space as an FT-991a would, or might at least support using this almost like a control-head with the amplifier module being mounted remotely.
I love my Yeasu kit, (I have a FT-710 and their basic handhelds) but for QRP on the road I just think the Xiegu kit edges it, the G90 has the built in tuner and there is an unofficial battery pack for it too and you also have the x6100 and now x6200 which for me are just everything you need in one package (battery and atu), that it doesn't have VHF doesn't bother me.
Operation in SSB, CW, AM, FM and C4FM digital modes SDR Technology. Two independent receiver circuits provide true simultaneous dual-band operation, whether in the same band or in different bands. An optional Automatic Antenna Tuner can be attached to the rear of the transceiver with the 5670mAh high-capacity Li-ion battery pack. The optional Cooling-fan, which is necessary for comfortable FT8 operation, can also be combined with the antenna tuner. USB ports support CAT operation, audio input/output and TX control. Touchscreen with 3DSS Personally, I have already saved money and know which radios from my shek I will sell.

It’s sad they won’t post a suggested retail price. Like my grandpa use to say ( if you have to ask the price then you can’t afford it ). He was a very wise man.
Unfornately dual receivers does not mean full duplex. We can only hope it's full duplex. Especially since I have already preordered one. Rumor has it that it is full duplex in the comments of another video that showed them at the Ham Fair in Japan. Time will tell.
this looks like they took a lesson from the short commings of IC705 (though few) and fixed them. fingers crossed for a small efficient amp like the one for the TX-500.
They had 4 examples on each table of configuration, external power, battery power, ext power/tuner, battery/tuner, external power/fan/tuner. I think from what I saw. I'm going to take another look at my 2 hour stream and try to separate out the three radios for smaller specific videos.👍
Does this radio have CW and SSB Messages for ease of POTA and SOTA and Contesting? I don't see any mention, and if Messages is lacking, that's a major negative hit for potential buyers.
Looks like it's a lot shorter in depth than the IC-705, making it 57% the volume of that radio. It's width and height are somewhat larger than the ICOM, however.
Does that mean you can use a BNC connection for your antenna into the radio but if you use the tuner, you have to have an adaptor? If so, that's pretty dumb. Why the heck not just make those both the same?
I am willing to bet yaesu will do everything they can to put this in under the cost of a 705. The 710 absolutely beats the snot out of the 7300 and its cheaper. Idk if the margins are there but you best believe the sales team wants to get the base version cheaper than a 705
A couple of years ago, I was very close to buying the KX-3 but opted for a TX-500 instead. Both are great radios. If Elecraft does decide to go this route, I hope that they keep their simple design philosophy. I feel like Icom and Yaesu both have uninteresting radios that are more designed like computers with radios rather than radios with computers. There is obviously a big market for computer-centric radios, but not for me. Just keep things simple so that they always work and are easy to operate.
I might have missed it, but as of yet I've not seen a suggested MSRP. It would be disingenuous to reserve a radio that is outside of my pricing comfort zone.
Thw real reason they have that dome over the radio is because otherwise people would open that USB flap to see what kind of connector they used 😂 Also, I pray that is any connector other than micro USB. Micro USB is for cheap garbage, not for a fancy radio. I will take literally any connector other than micro USB any day!
What's the point of having the tuner attach to the back if you still need to use a control cable? I guess power, but... jeez. Also the tuner doesn't have BNC out?
I just can’t get excited about 10w. Icom already has a solid unit in that arena, and unless the price point is significantly better, I don’t see the point.
If Marcus can’t add support for this to his yaesu Mac software, it’s a pass for me. Without wifi, it likely won’t work, or the waterfall will be too slow in the software, like sdr-control on the ic-7300. 705 works beautifully with sdr-control. I only wish the 705 was dual receive.
No tuner. Weak power. Where’s the beef? No thanks, I’ll continue on with my 7300 and my G-90. How about a makeover for the 891 Yaesu? It does look pretty though.
These new radios are great. Yaesu and Icom. But the prices just keep going up and up. Guess I better sell my motorcycle if I want to buy one of these. Not happening. Just I will get one in about 10 yrs.
Let me guess. This thing is going to hit the market at around $1,500 USD. Yaesu and Icom. Driving the average amateur radio enthusiast into the waiting arms of cheap Chinese radio manufacturers, one radio at a time.
All band all mode? Lol. In a world of digital, this is just another analog radio with a single digital mode. At 6 watts advertised and probably 3-5watts actual.
🤬 It should be called APOS-A, which is Another Piece Of Sh!t Again, to steal your money! Hasn’t anyone at Yaesu ever heard of Parks On The Air POTA or Summit On The Air SOTA and try to lug a rig the size of a kitchen sink to a summit? We are tired of US manufacturers scheming and ignoring this hobby. Either build a good 100 watt compact POTA rig or get out of the business! 🤬🤬🤬
G'day Hayden. the rig looks nice. I have an 817ND & a 705 love both of them. If i was to look at buying this rig i think the wife would unalive me. 🫢😉🤣
Hi Hayden I can confirm, you can have battery and tuner connected at same time. VK radio.
That's interesting, how do they connect mate? I couldn't see it in the photos. Thanks for the info!
Did you ask if it’s usb-c?
@@HamRadioDX It looks like they both attach to the back of it. Possibly with a cable.
Definitely USB C

Finally a new radio I can afford !
Way to go Yaesu !!

😂🤣😂
Hopefully this means they can release a 857d replacement
It seems all the manufacturers keep missing the boat, when are they coming out with a full power mobile radio. 73 N6LPV
Yaesu do love the 90s stereo aesthetic but the specs look great, will sell well. Form factor looks better than 705.
Now they need to produce a 991A replacement based on the 710.
Or Yaesu can take this model and put some gas in it. Same with Icom 705. I will wait till then.
@@nandrews8412 Agree, 6 or 10 watts is old school.

$35 sounds a bit pricey

😂😂
exactly!
For QRP? Sounds high.
Pffttt 😂
Great rundown on this rig! I was feeling a bit hesitant, but I think you covered everything my ADHD could come up with!
They should have a more advanced Icom 7100 competitor though.
Unless your hiking across the desert, Good ole 7300 or 710 works great on a picnic table
More excited by this radio than the 7760 which just seems like a refresh of the 7610.
They might of fixed the OVF light though Don :D

I just have a duplexer for my 705 but having two antenna ports would be really nice.
I really like this radio, with one exception. Why is the HF output on the ATU different from the HF output on the radio? Why not BNCs on both???
Thank you for the detailed description.
Glad it was helpful!

I reserved one with DX Engineering

The V+V, V+U and U+U was interesting in the doco... historically with Yaesu that has meant full duplex, especially with their older mobiles
@@guyvkradio2257 That's fantastic news.

No 10 MHz reference input that I've seen. CAT control change when transmitting will be interesting to see if it does - all my Icoms do.
Very interesting, thanks.
