I have a very similar amp... also custom built by Mark Sampson. It is a Star Delux Nova 15 R. Most Star Nova amps had EL84 power tubes but Mark used 6V6 power tubes in mine. It has a single 12" speaker and single knob pan reverb. It also has that same turquoise covering. It sounds amazing!

Howdy, what Bad Cat is that above your Matchless Head? I'm on my first boutique amp journey currently. I owned a Morgan AC20 for about a month but I ended up returning it. It was super nice but ultimately not what I wanted to settle on.
If you are asking that question you should not put together a stereo rig. It’s not something to just do for the hell of it if you don’t know what you are trying to achieve. What kind of amp sounds do you like?
So… i zoomed in on your board. Do you have two gain pedals stacked? I have a zwreck combo and happen to have the brown protein and copied your settings but really low gain. So is it the marshall pedal and the protein? I should add, when the gain wasn’t turned up
Yeah the Protein and Guv’nor were the main drive pedals in this video. I tried to show what was turned on at different points I think I may have stacked them at one point but I can’t remember. My Guv’nor is a vintage one from the 80’s so I’m not sure how easy they are to find. It’s sort of a Marshall in a box kind of thing. I think the MI Audio Crunch Box is a modern clone of it. Personally I really like the green side of the Protein with Fender type amps. The blue side can get a little bass heavy for me. But with a Z Wreck it would probably work great since it’s much more of an AC30 type amp. I have a Z Wreck, actually, but I just recently got it and haven’t used the Protein with it. The settings on my board may or may not work for you, though. Might need to make adjustments to suite your amp, guitar, playing, etc.
Thanks for making this. I was left wanting less of your pedals, and more of the amp. The pedals sounded kinda similar. I was looking for the whole range of clean, semi, edge and dirt from the amp. There was way too much talking just like church, and also the musical examples sounded like those lame worship songs.Thanks for taking the effort to pullout your Fender combos, that was instructive. Maybe your demographic are worship players, I get it but lets help bring these guys to the next level as we school them on good tone. Yeah, I'm thinking about getting one of these I have a Matchless Excalibur (discontinued} and an Independence. Anyway thanks for making a pro video with the amp miked, your guitars in tune and wearing long pants and shoes... haha.
Totally agree with this. The best sounding parts were when all those dirt pedals were off. No idea why people take such an incredible amp then just step on a bunch of generic pedal sounds the entire time.
@@wttone - Yeah, man……I bet you’re right about this and the SC30 sou ding incredible together. Different enough to help with stereo spread, but close enough so that the left and right doesn’t sound tilted one way too much (like when you use very different amps in stereo).
As a person who can’t decide between a hand wired fender or vox, the matchless checks all my boxes nicely.

I prefer the Deluxe Reverb, the Matchless sounds like if it has a cleft palate.

@@CarlyonProduction That it has too much low mids, so it sounds hypernasal or "boxy".
I think you've got it backwards on the "cut" control. On C-30 Matchless amps, it filters the output section, and removes high end when turned up.
Yeah it’s also just completely wrong - this is nothing like a cut control in any way.
