      @Mori Motoharu well just a personal preference (tired of southern culture, grew up here, visited other places and have a desire to leave).
      For me, there are better places to live in terms of a better lifestyle, what I enjoy, atmosphere, culture. Texas is not a poor choice, but there is not much to do outside of eating, shopping, and sporting events. especially compared to other states.
      It lacks a lot. there are other states one can live and be in another vibrant city or state in a matter of hours. So geographically, Texas is not desirable.
      Another reason I am living are because of the people here- not very friendly/road rage/has become quite dangerous /impatient/animated. where in Germany do you live? where did you live prior? why texas? I can give you some great suggestions on areas in texas or answer questions if you need to know, just ask!

    Between 1999 and 2009, I spent 9/10 of those Januaries in a hotel there (usually the Best Western) working as a specialty tech for an exhibit at NAIAS. I'm a little saddened to see that 4 of the 5 restaurants I really liked in those days (Cobo Joe's, Pizza Papalis, and the Greek restaurants that used to be where Redsmoke and that corner parking lot are now) are permanently gone if not completely erased. Good to see Woodward Coney Island still there! I ate at Golden Fleece too, they were okay, the others were just better. Maybe that's changed, maybe they absorbed displaced workers from the vanished establishments?

    • @xheralt
      @xheralt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The former Best Western is now Hotel Indigo, according to Google Maps.

    • @drivingdan
      @drivingdan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I honestly just found out about Pizza Papalis and was pretty bummed out about it. I don't know what happened because every time I went by that place it was always jammed packed!

      The inside is amazing too. The elevated walkways (circulation rings) going all the way around the open interior core, shops and a movie theater scattered around inside...at least back in 2009 when I was last there...

    Seems like traffic jams and finding parking space are not Detroit's worst problems. The pollution level caused by cars may be down, but the way some buildings are demolished might have compensated that with asbestos, paint particles etc. City seems to be going back in the good direction though, heard about Ford having bought the iconic railway station and making plans for EV's... Let me guess: after petroleum wars, we'll have a lot of conflicts over lithium etc. in the next decades. So, the future for arms dealers still looks rosy....

    • @georgewhite8118
      @georgewhite8118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This was filmed during coronavirus, most of downtown Detroit is tourism or office based, other neighborhoods he drove through don’t have good public transit or are student based with students still off campus and not in person classes, not too shocking there’s so few. Also depending on the time of day even if office workers were in town they would be at work… less likely to be walking about. Most of those 1 million never lived near downtown, and that population was maintained in the suburbs to this day, the metro area has never lost its population

      They didn’t leave Detroit they just went to the burbs. Not many people are fleeing Michigan anymore people are starting to move in or move back. There’s a lot of investment geared towards Michigan/Great Lakes region which means they are preparing for a huge influx of people moving in.
