The Toy Dolls' chart-busting version of the popular childrens' song. All together now: oooooooooooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOO!
This video is a celebration of the north of England's most famous punk rock outfit. We're Mad captures the band at their best. Not so much a set of songs as a series of short stories. Packed full of witty lyrics and mad machine-gun guitar licks

62 years old. Have no idea why I found this, but have showed it to my grown Goth daughter and to my grandson. Nice to be in the "in" crowd :D

@Karl Wilson Hahaha, mine would probably like it though.

36 years later and still f***ing awesome!
This takes me back to a time when the entire pub would be singing this, and we`d all be banging our glasses on the tables and stamping our feet to the chorus. Great atmosphere.
Too many "trumps" in this song and too many WHITE people having fun and this obviously makes it a real "RACIST" dog whistle, only when people start using inventions that are from their own race will we end thought crimes aka " hate speech, when Africans find out that they have invented cars, mobile phones, computers, flight and antibiotics to name a few will whitey truly know their place in world history and black Americans as the most abused people in the history of the world not having to fear traffic stops because whitey won't have a car or gun because we all know these were inventions stolen from them by whitey and can't wait for my birthing person/she/her to give birth to our first Black male presenting child,I witnessed Tyrone plant they/them resistance pole in the birthing person as I cried with joy in the corner knowing I did my bit to fight against the racists that still judge people by their content and not by their race or gender, I really hate the bigotry that stops people from seeing colour or who the sleep with, treating people the same is just so racist and we need to use the covid camps for these insane racists that are coloured blind
My mum used to sing me this every night before bed. She was a 70 London punk rocker, but she sang the lulaby version
alright son, a lullaby, **tunes guitar**
F $/%k Yeah , mate!!!
Just imagined her punching you out, unconsciousness with the dance moves...
my mum did that too. I always thought this song was an actual nursery rhyme
I sang my kids "Bloodhound Gang - Fire Water Burn". They loved it...
This was played as the last song of the night in my local pub. The logic was, who would fight after singing Nellie the Elephant? Never had any trouble walking home from that pub.
a good example of music creating peace.
Can imagine what you say is true, even though the "dance" they are performing is almost like a fist fight! 😁
Cause you were carried
a smart good idea !
:-) *
This was my grandads funeral song and honestly I cannot think of anything more fitting for him, ofc no one knew before it played🥲
Paroles :
To Bombay a traveling circus came, they brought an
Intelligent elephant and Nellie was her name
One dark night she slipped her iron chain
And off she ran to Hindustan
And was never seen again
Oh
Nellie the elephant pack her trunk
And said goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety trump
Trump trump trump
Now Nellie the elephant packed her trunk
And trundled off to the jungle
Off she went with a trumpety trump
Trump trump trump
The head of the herd was calling far far away
They met one night in the silver light
On the road to Mandalay
Night by night she danced to the circus band
When Nellie was leading the big parade
She looked so proud and grand
No more tricks for Nellie to perform
They taught her how to take a bow
And she took the crowd by storm
Oh
it´s impossible not to like them
they are just too great
Easy to not like

true punk mad as a box of frogs. No messing just be silly and act serious doing it. love it
"mad as a box of frogs" this is a new expression to me. I can envision how appropriate it is, when all those slimy things are crawling on top of each other. Well done. Permission to use the expression again and again and again and again for the rest of my life. Cheers. Also reminds me of the DUKES OF STRATOSPHERE
"Have you seen Jackie?
He's a strange strange strange little girl
Make up on his face and his hair in curls
Have you seen Jackie?
She's a strange strange strange little boy
Her long black beard is her pride and joy
And all the children follow him around
And all the grownups try to drag her down
So we sing
Hey, leave Jackie alone
Hey, his pigeons have flown
Hey, she's never at home at all these days
Leave Jackie alone . . .

Sometimes music is just fun. I'd forgotten about this gem, but it made me smile as much as the first time I heard it.
How can you not love Toy Dolls? !! Mad as hatters with musical talent. Brilliant!!
Their version of Toccata & Fugue is both an hilarious poke at rock musicians and their classical pretensions
And shows that Olga and co. are seriously talented musicians. It takes a lot of chops to parody at that level!

We used to go mental at middle school disco to this, teachers chasing us round trying to stop us jumping off tables and throwing crisps about 😂😂😂never realised it was a punk song, it all makes sense now.
My Dad bought this and used to play it all the time, my Nan wasn't amused as she hated this song. Now, whenever I play it, I can hear my Nan go, "Oh no, not this flaming record..."
Hahah, fond memories. Miss her so much x
Bless all grandparents , mine described Richard Ashcroft as a tramp in a cardigan . RIP Nan x

2024, working from home, possibly the worst quality video on YT but it's made my fackin' day, this was on a compilation tape in my car with my kids growing up and has become an iconic tune in our world. Bring back 1984.

Toy Dolls was the very first live concert I've been to in my life, in 1988 ! Hell yeah !!! 2021 still listen this band!!
I'm 59 now , but loved this when it came out. Had it on vinyl. We used to sing it up the bar on a Friday night. Good Times.
My 3 year old son loved this (UK Number 1 Christmas 1984). He did the moves and everything. Took me hard to watch this because 3 years ago he died of a heart attack but those times were good.

Just love this song! Living in Berlin back in the 80ies this was a must-play in the little indi 'Linientreu' club... the dance floor was full with punks, rockabillies, goths and newwaves, dancing all together in 'harmony' ✌
Saw them yesterday on Arte Tv at Hellfest. Still amazing, happy and „not too old for this.“ Thank you for so much fun.
Where has this music been all my life? Absolutely incredible!
