    Wow, double feature finale. What a ride! You really went above and beyond for this mine. The shorts between episodes were great fillers and tie-ins. The ghost town tour. Teaching us the history as you show us the sites. What an immense effort, Gly. What an awesome payoff at the end. I even got a bit white-knuckled when you were on that precipice of "holy crap!" You achieved your goal, you did it solo. That's pretty spectacular man. I give you permission to use my tip towards a victory steak! I have neuropathy from an old spine surgery. This is what finding the holy grail looks like. Absolutely astonishing that no one has been down there and pilfered all those artefacts.
    I like to think that large tree was going to be put where the collapse happened, but the collapse happened before the tree was put in place. That's a huge piece of wood that was moved there and then not utilised.

    How do they mine such big and deep stokes? It baffled me too! After watching your videos and others, I think it was probably simpler than it seems. Find the edge of the ore body and immediately follow it up at an angel, hence ore chutes, then when you think you reached the top, excavate the ore horizontally in all directions, dumping it down your original access chute, lowering your floor foot by foot. If it starts to go below your original starting level, and seems large enough, blast in another drift a hundred feet below, excavate a ore chute / pass up to the first starting level, remove and relocate your track and reusable wood to the new lower level to use again, then start excavating horizontally again, lowering the floor foot by foot until you have an amazingly tall cavern. Seems the easiest way since if you start at the top and work your way down, you never need all kinds of ways to access high areas since they are already depleted of ore as you work your way down.

    Gly - Nowhere in this mine do I see any sign it has ever been surveyed. No tags, no pink spray paint. How is that possible? The Division of Mines did very thorough survey of all Nevada mines in the 30's, and again in the 60's. Given the lack of survey markers and the nature of the artifacts you found, I would hazard a guess you are the first person to walk those adits since that last minet left. I must say I am impressed. Forget the mining historical finds, showing the massive trees that once graced the area, and are now, devoid of any trees at all, was a special treat as well
    Also, the amount of snow drifted into the tunnel, off of the vertical shaft was incredible. When you threw the rock into the shaft and thought it was still falling, not hearing it's hitting bottom, I think it was because it impacted deep snow. If there was that much snow where you were, imagine how much snow was still in the bottom of the shaft.

    • @memberHD
      @memberHD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That tree really got my brain juices squirting around. So many questions. It's a very unusual size timber to be used for anything, mining or otherwise. It must have had a specific application it was used for, but it is no longer being used for that. It would have taken considerable planning and man power to get it to, into and around the mine. Was it ever used, or was it still on it's way to be used. If it was still on the move in, how did something of such great expense get halfway done before the mine closed down. Most likely it was used. Was it used deeper in the mine and just discarded on this level, or was it used on this level? even if that's the case, why was it left and not repurposed like every other resource in a mining camp. The tree has a very intense story behind it. Multiple people had some very stressful days dealing with that piece of wood.
      Just makes my brain spin thinking about a damn dead tree

It is literally a confusing rat's nest of giant ballrooms, huge stopes, adits, ore passes, prospect shafts, etc. It would be neat if you could draw out what you can of it in 3D and show where everything was and where you went. Also it would be cool to see a blooper reel on this mine as I am sure you were butt puckered scared more than once and you probably created some big echos in there. Phenomenal exploration of Thunder Ridge mines with such attention to the details of the mines. Enjoy the dialogue on the geology and artfacts of the mine makes you mine exploration so much more enjoyable and educational it's downright exciting. You are at the top of the list of mine exploration videos. Thank you!!

    It's a twofer! Thanks, Tina!! This is absolutely amazing stuff, Gly. It's a chilly fall morning here and I'm sick. Having two episodes to watch has made my entire weekend. Especially with such a spectacular, mind-boggling mine.
