the first time I was in Venice it was off tourist season and besides the main attractions, the city was mostly empty. it was absolutely magical to walk at night through those empty narrow streets. at some point we reached a dead end and had to go back and so as we were leaving that corner we saw a girl in a beautiful long black dress just walk past us and after a few seconds disappearing into that dead end side alley. I was absolutely mesmerised.

I spent several days in Venice about 20 years ago, and it was magical! I spent one morning just wandering the little walkways between houses, seeing the rooftop gardens spilling over the sides of the houses, and soaking in the scenery. One of the highlights of my life! Great video, too.

I have been to Venice several times while Dad was stationed with NATO years ago. But my favorite was Feb 2020. I went for the first time by myself. Got an airbnb, took a food tour, made friends on the tour, enjoyed Carnavale. But...Covid hit. Everyone scrambled out of the city. Though the reason for everyone's sudden departures was terrible, I stayed a few extra days. It was the most serene, magical and divine time I has ever spent there. The streets were quiet, the canals were quiet and you only heard Italian spoken. Only locals in that spectacular city. The most magical moments where it seemed that there were presences from the past around every corner. Looking forward to going back.

You go to Venice expecting to be amazed by the canals and bridges. And you are. But then you get lost in the alley ways and you think for sure you've travelled centuries in time. The place is just mesmerizing.

I have worked there for many years in Venice, and a beautiful city a magical city especially in winter when the fog falls over the city, it seems to be back in the year 1800 .. and it seems that suddenly some historical figure appears ... Which nation in the world has such beauty? or such fabulous architecture ... I have traveled around the world, I have lived in North America in Canada, but Italy is Italy ... Venice must be experienced .. in this video the island of Murano where they make glass sculptures is missing, the island of Burano and the island of Lido di Venice ... there is much more to see ..

    • @ItalybyItalians

Very very fine video. Lots of interesting things. I happen to like Castello and even when there is almost no room to walk in San Marco there are tourists there. Plus the beautiful church supposedly by Palladio. Venezia without doubt the most beautiful city on this planet. And no cars, almost no bikes and the perfect separation of pedestrian and transport. In my view this is what makes Venezia so wonderful. Other cities have intact ancient buildings (Siena, Vicenza, etc etc) but water in the streets and the serenity of all pedestrian makes it the jewel of our solar system.

TOP TIP for Navigation: Canals are very good because if you know roughly where you are then you can follow the canals and they all lead to the gran canal. The Gondola-Traghetto stops along all the "stazi" (piers) on the Grand Canal, which are:
      - Fondamenta S. Lucia - Stazione
      - San Marcuola - Fóndaco dei Turchi
      - San Samuele - Cà Rezzónico
      - Campo Santa Maria del Giglio - Salute
      - San Tomà - Santo Stefano
      - Rialto Mercato - Cà D'Oro (the one you see in our video)
      - Riva del Carbòn - Fondamente del Vin
      Each trip costs 2€.

My husband and I were in Venice on honeymoon in 1955..in August.
I remember seeing an amazing, huge antique beaten gold screen behind the altar in St Mark's cathedral. It was studded with gems...large ones.. like emeralds, rubies, sapphires and a pearl almistcthe size of a bantam hen's egg!
I am wondering if that is ever on display these days....or I'd the danger of theft is too great. Those gems were truly enormous.. and incredibly beautiful.

Lake Garda is a great destination, full of things to do, you can check them out here: shorturl.at/gpDJ9 we would suggest to choose your preferred town based on what activities you want to do: if you are based on the northeast side it's not that easy to go all the way to the southwest. yes! don't stay on the island.
avoid staying on the island at all costs.
find a place that is on the mainland, near the station.
everything is upstairs and carrying luggage is hard around the island.
walk across the bridge to the island and enjoy the sites.
navigating the water transport is tricky, you will see more walking.
be a ware that what looks like a path to someone's door is actually a street.
be careful where you eat, they have city taxes just to sit down.
they have 2 menu's , one for the locals and one for the tourists.
if you are going to eat a restaurant, do your home work on the establishment.
it is not a case of if you will get ripped off, you will! it is a case of how much.
if you follow this advise, you will enjoy the visit.

Hi there, I loved your video. My husband and I have been learning Italian on and off for a couple of years and will finally be there in one month. We are from NZ so are a bit restricted because of our weak currency. We want to show respect everywhere we go and are aware that many tourists do not do that. This is very distressing to us. Sadly we don't speak any Venetian but how do you think speaking slightly messy but ok Italian will be received by Venetians? We want to go deeper than other tourists - are there any destinations or even other shops where given we speak a fair bit of Italian we could go that you wouldn't recommend to people that are less adventurous or who have been too lazy to learn the language? We are there for four nights and want to be as Venetian as we can be in that time. :)

    • @ItalybyItalians
      @ItalybyItalians  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi Christie, it's impossible to learn every dialect of Italy but don't worry, everybody speaks Italian so Venetians will understand you and they will appreciate any level of Italian you can show! The best thing to do in Venice is wander around and discover secret corners by yourself, the city is a bit of a labyrinth and you'll find it rewarding 😉
