Everything is just working in the episode. Some great writing and acting, and some laughs. Plus Bobbie in power armor and Clarissa saving the day. Let me know what you think.
With this shortened season I was really hoping for more out of each episode. Still enjoying it, and maybe it sits better watching them all back to back, but waiting a week and knowing there's only 4 left leaves me with some GoT's feelings. I hope I'm wrong, but I don't see how they're going to wrap up the story threads that are going now without it feeling rushed. I'd rather them delayed this a year or longer if they needed to instead of cutting it as short as possible. It does feel like a different show, every interaction is rushed(except for Marcos for some weird reason, if they were gonna cut some stuff, cut that) it leaves it feeling rushed and not savoring anything. The only reason I can see them lingering so long on Marcos, Filip, and whatshernames story is if the reporters "propoganda" is going to work and turn either her or Filip against Marco in the end. I was really hoping this FN mess would be wrapped up by episode 3 and we'd get more of Laconia. These first two episodes have left me with a weird juxtoposition of a feeling, they're dragging some things out while moving too fast in other areas. I hope my dread is unwarranted I know you said in your sesason six non-spoiler review the ending was fine and they didn't GoT's it, but I also wonder if that's because you got to see them in a chunk and didn't have to wait a week between each episode if that might of changed things, because it sure isn't looking good from where we sit now, and I hate to say it. This has been some of my favorite TV ever. I can't say my favorite because I think Futurama will always hold that place in my heart.
Already seen some other reactors now complain about the Laconia story, they like it but can't figure out why it's loping time off the base story. Gotta say the same. I already expressed my fear about a Blivit problem , knew we would have it. Was it really 46 min., the budget constraints are so severe? Had to watch the end action piece twice because the cutting was so fast at first I could not follow.
A plot point , why if Holden can send a 'classified' message to Avasarala why can't Avasarala sent one to him? Hence Bobbie's appearance is not a surprise. Maybe the com is that way but unless I missed it the show didn't explain.
One of those booms could have been Bobbie's armor being peeled off of her if Clarissa had not taken Naomi's place. Wonder if Bobbie will thank her in the next episode. Clarissa doesn't need no body armor, she does that with her bare hands.
Every single episode of The Expanse has left me wanting more. Every single one. It wouldn't be the intense churn I've come to love if season 6 didn't ramp this up tenfold. Season 6 is the conclusion of one of the best hard sci-fi shows ever aired on TV. There is no way in hell they're going to be able to leave me a 100% satisfied. I will unquestionably want MORE. Therefore, I'm just going along for a brilliant ride, which they've never failed to deliver.
Totally agree. This show is slick! No mucking around, the tech level is consistent and the world building spot on. Never got into BSG in early 2000s and recently watched it - totally different show but also in a class of its own with the character arcs and themes. The ending of BSG was particularly satisfying. But I get the feeling that these episodes are just too short. Seems like every episode needs another 10 to 15 min. I hope the last episode slows the pace and gives us something memorable.
The Chrisjen/Monica exchange has become one of my favorite conversation scenes in the entire series. These two characters are so alike in many ways: unflinching, uncompromising, shrewd, sharp as knives, persuasive, manipulative, cunning, and above all masters at reading situations and people. And here they are, toe to toe. It's clear there is an unspoken but unique sense of mutual respect. At the same time, each inherently distrusts the other: Avasarala is the embodiment of Power that Answers to No One (at least in Monica's mind, she's treading dangerously close to that). Monica is unrestrained Media, information unfettered by tact and strategy (at least in Chrisjen's mind). And throughout their entire exchange, the verbal thrusts and parries, the shifting of tactics, and ultimately Avasarala's masterstroke of appealing to (or target-locking) Monica's empathy and humanity... ...It's brilliant. It shows us, but also Monica, how Avasarala has mastered persuasion and diplomacy. While Monica was trying to figure out Chrisjen's angle, Avasarala was zeroing in on Monica's vulnerability - turning the younger woman's idealism (the strength that allows her to stay in the ring with Avasarala in this dialogue) into a mutual sense of common ground. That moment where Monica realizes she's been checkmated, and for the first time we see her unmitigated awe and appreciation for Avasarala. It's unspoken, but the sense is that beneath the seemingly mercenary approach the older woman has taken ("It's tactical, this will make it harder for them to enjoy killing our people"), Monica realizes that Chrisjen actually gives a shit - that it's not all just trans-system politics. The politics are a tool. And Avasarala's brilliance is in finding a way to align Monica's interests with her own, despite them standing on opposing sides of their respective ideologies. Wonderful writing, and amazing performances by the actors.
I wonder if Avasarala has an agenda she did not reveal to Monica. Why did she not ask for this documentary before she got the data from the Azure Dragon?
It's also an interesting 180 from the book, where Holden films humanizing videos of the Belters, independent of Avasarala, and sends them to Monica to broadcast to Earth and Mars. I wouldn't be surprised if they flipped it, just to get Anna Hopkins and Shohreh together more.
"It was the first time he said i'm a part of the crew" moment by Clarissa was soooo cute and classy and well staged, just heartwarming. Gives me a bit of Firefly vibes.
I was listening to Holden speech to Clarissa.... and was like.... WAIT WAIT.... WAIT...... did he just refer to her as a part of the crew??? :D ...... its like in Fast and Furious.... Dom would say it at best: "we are not friends, we are family" .... and since now is Clarisa also part of Rocinante family
Can't wait for Marco to ask, "Who did this to me?" and then being told, "It was Drummer, again!" That would be 2 for 2 that Drummer will have humiliated Marco.
@@brandonreed09 Belters are just a different culture altogether. We inners just can't understand how one could follow a leader with a man bun.. thats why we are ignorant for the belters plight.
Rewatched and noticed some new stuff: during the chase of azure dragon you can see the roci hull glow red because the pilot of the dragon is trying to use his drive to burn them. Holden calls clarissa peaches when on an open channel to keep her presence a secret. It's only when they're on channel 2 that he calls her Clarissa
I feel like with the success of the mission they should try to get a pardon for Peaches. She was vital to that success, which will likely save millions of human lives on earth.
4 episodes left. No time for deep in the weeds stuff like the trial of Fred Johnsons assassin, Peaches pardon ceremony, 2 episodes on what is going on on Ulm, etc. Maybe this small stuff can be worked out through authorized fan fiction product. Ty Frank certainly made his universe with open end architecture - easy to see how more novellas, novels, games, movie, creating a modest franchise could come about. Untold stories of Earth and Mars, other worlds colonized, etc.
At first I also thought that Naomi's anxiety was from the hard vacuum transit, but I think it was actually her last jump and free tumble doing the macarena as she was trying to warn Alex about the proximity triggers. Of course, it's entirely possible that the writers had the trauma of both of those experiences in mind when writing the scene.
Well it's clear that Naomi could really use some REM sleep followed by a spa day. She is clearly suffering from PTSD because of her experiences aboard the Pella & Chetzemoka. It's sad to see a Belter who can't go into the void.
It is sad. PTSD hits hard, regardless of one's culture or experience. If you're in its vice, you're going to get strangled. There are well-experienced soldiers who are living with the crippling effects of PTSD. It usually doesn't make sense to them, as they have so much experience behind them, but the brain doesn't care about experience when it comes to PTSD.
I have a friend who is seeing some success using ketamine therapy for veterans. It basically temporarily unlocks the trauma chemically so it can be reduced with talk therapy.
I agree, great ep, so much meaning packed into every line and scene. But that conflict on the Azure Dragon went way too fast, so hard to follow what happened!
There's a short scene in this episode that I enjoyed. Its when the crew of the roci are preparing for the mission, Naomi is putting on the martian armor and she looks over at the martian patch. Contemplating her actions and how she's now fighting against her own people.
Chrisjen Avasarala's response to Monica Stuart is from the Woody Allan movie 'Love and Death'. Countess Alexandrovna: "You are the greatest lover I've ever had." Boris (Woody Allan) : "Well, I practice a lot when I'm alone."
Garbage. It is a philosophical question of grappling with personal guilt. Goes back to the Greek classical civilization. Leaders in Rome who wondered if history and the Gods would weigh their actions after they were gone - and if they would be remembered as great leaders, or monsters. Then prominent again as Christians grappled with their sins. Woody Allen, sorry to let you down, just made one of his many masturbation jokes.
A very positive thing is Alcorn Studios and the producers and showrunner spent significant time and money creating the world of Laconia. You have to wonder why they did it. There is no immediate payoff, the main Laconian story is in the future. A signal more is coming through going through that (so far very pleasing ) Laconia story arc. That seems to be an investment in "have them wanting more". And as new characters go, Walter is a pissah! And though "Pirate of the Expanse Series" is locked up by Ashford and Straitharn's awesome character actor work - the more pirates the better. Except Filip and Marco Inaros. Pirates, but hard to cheer for them when they have butchered more humans than Lenin, Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Pol Pot, the Kims, the USA and the bubonic plague together have!
@@1chrisford im just thinking what they could do for the next three books... Aging up actors especially for an extended period of time doesn't always work the greatest i get this feeling that for it to be done right it would need a good break to let everyone age up.... Which then makes me think of the events on laconia and how they would handle that exactly
@@CodyTaylor115 To realistic the show is over, it's finite, once you lose momentum and don't have the contracts going on, it's basically impossible getting at least the majority of the cast together again. The only thing on screen I can imagine from here on is either an animated one for the last 3 three books, or a reboot with new actors many years from now.
@@georgelionon9050 That's my concern as well. They have the magic crew right now. Getting it all back together later rarely (if ever) works out. At best it would be very different. Like from the Firefly series to the movie. Both are great, but noticeably different. I think people are making too big of a deal about the time gap. Realistically aging the cast would be trivial for this team. They have shorted the whole timeline from the books already so it would make sense to shorten down the time gap as well. Plus with the advances in health care in the future, I wouldn't expect them to age the same way we do now. Without spoiling anything, there are characters in the later books that mention health prolong treatments and anti-aging technologies. They could make it a ten year gap and add a few wrinkles and a few pounds to the actors and it would be fine.
Great episode. Agree that the Peaches/Bobbie scene seemed a little rushed and I too had to watch that a couple of times and it was edited a little weird. Needed more that 0.5sec of action. Maybe a slow-motion scene of her rushing the guy and her knocking his helmet off? So sad this is going to end. I think it maybe my favorite show of all time :-p
Me too. I got the idea of what happened when they described the action later, but rewatched it. I suppose since we all appreciate that the show runners don't underestimate their audience, we have to accept that sometimes they overestimate us. :)
Walker had me interested the moment he came on screen. Looking forward to Drummer having an ally to spark off - I miss Ashford. Got a bit choked up when Peaches realised Holden considered her part of the crew. And Bobby got her armor on. Really enjoyed this one.
These last episodes need to track 2 hours of content to make me personally feel that the material was not rushed. Sucks that they couldn't have received funding for like 12 to 13 runs in last season
I yelled out “THAT’S IT????” At the end. 6 episodes with 2 down leaving 4 episodes left, math is amazing I know lol, it just seems to be this amazing waste. I really do despise the shortened final seasons of shows.
The first two episodes were lame as fuck. Come on. I don’t give a good shit about the father & son storyline. We already seen this bullshit before. Son be trays the father at the last minute to be the True hero & goes back to Naomi a better ‘man’?! NeverMind the people he’s killed. Standard lib crap. Skip!
@@lucarinaldichini324 Season 6 only have 6 episodes. Which is pure BS. Look what they wasted 2 episodes on. Peaches & another little girl pets???? Marcos & Filip???🤮🤮
@3:08 Holden calls her Peaches because it's open comm and they don't know who's listening or what's the "mission specialist" about. He tells her to switch to private channel and then calls her Clarissa in the next sentence. He used "Peaches" as a codename, because he didn't want to accidentally dox her, not as a friendly nickname. He's surely coming around slowly to accept her, but this scene was probably not what most people think.
I did not find it satisfying I definitely wanted a lot more with only four episodes left it is sad we can all pretend that we're okay with it but I'm sure most are not or maybe I just love this show too much
The pain and exhaustion shows in Naomi and Holden, Amos is alert, but just wants to kill Marco. Clarissa is happy to be out of the slam. Drummer wants her pound of flesh as well, but if stealing from Marco gets his goat, she's all for it. Great show. Hope they go for the last 3 books, add 30 years to those actors. And Avasarala is obviously not well.
Our little Drummer girl, Cara Gee, is acting so far above her real personality that Camina Drummer is beyond a person in a story and has transitioned to a real person. I hope they spin her up for a great finish at the end of the series. Might I add that Amazon studios would be ridiculously foolish if they do not capitalize on this Universe. With the failure of Star Trek and Stars Wars still trying to recover, there is a golden opportunity for Amazon studios to grab and dominate the Sci-fi genre as there is so much out there left in this story line alone.
Star Trek is actually getting a renaissance actually, with 5 shows in production, say what you will about Discovery but it revived the franchise. As for Star Wars it's carried wholy by the Filoniverse, they need some wins outside of it for a healthy franchise.
@@grandsome1 As someone from Croatia and have never watched Star trek before or have been introduced to the prior series, Discovery is actually pretty damn sweet and on par with bingeeabily as Expanse. The actors are pretty damn likeable and the story is actually amazing( bear in mind im a newbie to this universe). so yeah, im actually gonna say discovery is great for me.
You could make an entire spin off series just on the tactical maneuvering and battles of ships in the expanse . Azure Dragon using its drive plume to inflict damage on the Rosi was very smart... I was very impressed by the details in that sequence... You could do scenes like that using the matrix style slow-mo so the audience could process every minor detail.
One of the key show-don't-tell moments that I'm still trying to fully understand is when Naomi suits up to go outside to do the Azure Dragon op. I get the feeling there's a lot more implied by the writers than might be conveyed at first-impression. Naomi looks at her shoulder and sees the MCRN logo. It's like she's wondering "how did I get here?" "Part of me really hates/is scared by this," and also realizing there's no going back all the same time. This must have been a conscious choice on the part of the writers because they could have easily had Naomi wear the standard suit that Clarissa was wearing, and not an MCRN suit. I'm guessing the practical explanation is that Naomi was supposed to do the transit to the Azure Dragon with the EMP pod and the MCRN suit somehow offers more tactical protection/options than the Belter (?) suit that Clarissa is wearing. Or maybe wearing the MCRN suit makes it easier for Bobby to ID Naomi as friendly once they arrive on the Azure Dragon (maybe metaphorical for Naomi's inner conflict: "I'm not identifying as a Belter on the outside anymore, am I even still one on the inside?"). Maybe Peaches is even wearing Naomi's suit? If so, then it really does imply a good round of musical chairs. Earther Holden is captain of a Mickey corvette, Belter Naomi is wearing MCRN gear while fighting Belter Ultra-nationalists, Clarissa Mao is fighting to save and be accepted by the very family she once tried to kill, and gung-ho MCRN Marine Bobby Draper is the Hand-of-UNN-Secretary-Avasarala. I think it would be fitting if Bobby gifted Amos with his own Goliath power armor before the end of the arc, Draper: "Hey Pewee--don't hurt yourself;" Amos: [intimidating smile]. Kind of goes along with the UNN officer's statement earlier on that it's nice everyone's working together. Sure, buddy, but nice doesn't mean that we're all used to it.
Bobby Draper is bad azz period! She just handles business and gets the job done. If you see Bobby fighting a Proto Beast, don't help Bobby help the Proto Beast. Terminators run and hide from Bobby. Candyman says Bobby's name 3 times in the mirror.
I'm hopeful that Clarissa will finally be accepted as part of the crew in Naomi's eyes. Clarissa saved the day with Naomi's freeze-up, and saved Bobbie's life on the mission! I don't think Naomi will try to cover up her freeze with Holden. She's admit that she froze, and she'll give credit to Clarissa. Hopefully, Naomi will climb down off her sanctimonious high horse and start treating Clarissa better.
@@PetePeppers1 I'm glad I haven't read the books. It's muddies the waters. I read and watched all of The Hunger Games, and the screenwriters stuck very closely to the books. If anything, they just had to leave out certain scenes. No time. But they didn't skew the storyline or characters.
Me too, I plan on restarting the series right after the last episode airs, and reread the books I’m on the last one only have 7 more hours left of one of the most epic sci fiction books
Episode 1: Everything's going as usual. everyone is fine Episode 2: The gang hijacks a ship Feels very lean. And we only have 6 episodes ~ 240 minutes of runtime... I wonder how the story will progress. I was left hungry for more after episode 2 ended ...
This episode is wasted potential. Nothing really happened. It was only a 45 minute episode? Why? Why not 50 or 55 min? We only have 4 episodes left and this episode was mainly people talking when we have so much to cover.
I can see why the media people who were able to get advanced copies said the fans would be happy. I hope they can make a trilogy for the big screen out of the remaining books.
Was a great episode, still wish I had 8 more but it is what it is. I’m one of the few people enjoying the strange dogs intro’s. I hope this origin story gets picked up and continued.
So far so good, just wish we had more episodes. I feel like the Phillip arc is taking up too much precious time. I hope they wrap that up soon and move on, but I doubt it.
I have the same feeling. At that point I don't want so much time spent with Fillip. When showing the Belters they better focus more on Marco and Rosenfeld.
Great review, I watched the episode just after midnight and was looking forward to your breakdown. Lol it’s abundantly clear that the show runners have no inclination to give a good visual of how Peaches works in full mod mode. Last season it was shaky cam, and now it’s just close ups and quick cuts. I guess they felt it would be better to leave that aspect to our imaginations.
Ya. As Pete mentioned, I knew from the closeup she was activating her mod, but I couldn't tell what happened. Still don't understand why the free navy guy was stuck there by one mag boot.
@@toddwestfall5457 Yea, it was strangely done. I'm assuming from their positions that she struck him with an upward palm thrust that simultaneously broke his jaw and/or neck, knocked his helmet off, and threw his aim off. Could have been sweet.
Agreed Pete - brevity/fast pacing can work well, but it needs to be handled very carefully and the editors were pushing the limits a bit in this episode.
came to the expanse party late .. so I Got to watch season 1 ,2,3,4,5, in one shot .. that was awesome ! But this episode by episode thing is killing me .. and they episodes feel shorter for some reason ..
I was blown away at just how amazing that whole chase action scene was. Absolutely fantastic the whole episode was so good and you are right the only part that sucked was how fast it flew by. And omg the extra mile they went on some of those zero g scenes absolutely money!! Holden floating down the stairs Bobby's power armor case. Soo good! The acceleration continuity in this episode was absolutely perfect
I watch these in hopes of finding a hearing Easter eggs that I may have missed or maybe an explanation I did not get but all you're doing is a play-by-play and a show that's already been want but thank you for your time and effort
Fully agree this episode fired on all cylinders! I found it interesting that Avasarala asked for Monica’s documentary only after getting the Azure data. I guess the UN can now use asteroids to attack Belter stations, e.g. Ceres? If so, I wonder if Avasarala plans to use the documentary to show Belters how bad these attacks would be, as part of a threat aimed at forcing the Belt to turn against Marco.
Agree that as taut and lean as the episodes are we, as fans, just want more. I could have happily watched ten minutes of Amos and Clarissa chatting in the med bay with flashbacks to action outside the ship. Like many commenters, I’m quietly starting to mourn the end of a classic.
I'm still struggling to imagine how the scenes with the little girl and the creatures fit in with the rest of the plot, and why they warrant so much screen time in a six-episode final season....
I like to think that it was either a fan service decision or a business one. Same with Holden's focus on The Destroyers that wiped out the builders that he knows want to wipe out humanity... If it was for fans, a reminder that big things are happening in the future in Laconia colony. If they just left it with an orbital and hints of blue light at the end of season 5, and nothing in season 6 - a disappointment. If it was a business decision to spend the time and money to create Laconia scenes, that is even better news! Because it is not core to completing Babylon's Ashes, there is no immediate payoff for it in Season 6. It is an investment for the future.
I love Bobbie's line to Amos after he asks about her power armor. "You'll just hurt yourself peewee." I doubt Amos said, "How about now?" But that would be a fun scene for them to make. Now we have the bittersweet count down to the last 4 episodes. Only 5 more days until Ep 3.
Great action sequence, solid character development. Marco becomes less interesting as we learn that power really is the only item on his shopping list; the opposite is possibly true for Filip. Down side is that after TWO episodes this season is one-third done. Not OK.
Too short. TOO SHORT! If the last episode finishes as quickly as these two episodes did, I will not be happy. Battlestar Galactica is a completely different beast, but I really enjoyed have they did their ending over two episodes. It was very very satisfying. Unless the last two episodes get pushed out to an hour or more I predict we may get a finale that leaves you disappointed and wanting
14:16 The subtle way Holden confirms Clarissa is part of the crew reminded me of the Sharpe/Harper moment from Sharpe’s Rifles (TV - 1993). Sharpe indirectly drops the mutiny charges on Harper by telling him to fall in with the rest of the men, after he saves an important item, even though he was in shackles and was intended to be taken back to a court martial.
Wow, S6E2, what a great episode. One of the best of the whole series. Amos: Where do I get a suit like that? Draper: You'd only hurt yourself, Peewee! I love Bobbi Draper ... she is one of my top favorite characters!
The thing with the different biochemistry is probably similar to what goes on with turians and quarians vs humans in mass effect (I think it is the chirality of DNA or protein, something like that). Quarians and turians can't eat human food and humans can't eat their food.
Not too bad of an episode and agree the Roci and Avasarala scenes went by way too fast, however the Drummer and Marco-Philip scenes just dragged on for far too long. Then we have another example of Naomi being more of a liability than an asset when she freezes up when she's supposed to do a spacewalk and Peaches finishes her mission for her. I forgot all about the little girl and dog creature at the beginning, this was more of a teaser than anything else because we're two episodes in now and don't have a clue what this is about. I would've preferred they tighten up the slow and dragged-out scenes to give the shorter ones their due time or just not have them in there at all. Definitely a lot of moving parts with this season and not sure they're going to have a meaningful conclusion or not if the remaining episodes are just as unbalanced as the first two are.
You didn't touch on the superb Amos moment when Holden comes into the med bay and says "Do you mind if we talk?" (implying to Peaches alone) but Amos just says "Yeah, sure, go ahead" and just stays sitting there. Holden isn't sure what Amos will do if he tries to kick him out knowing how protective Amos can be so after a beatifully awkward pause he just gives up and starts talking to Clarissa.
I loved this episode, but it goes back to the fact this season that has 6 shows when 10 would be better. The action happens so fast you need to concentrate to not miss anything. Going back to episode 1, when Phillip killed his friend is looks like someone else (a belter from Ceres) not only saw what happened but might have been hit and ran away. It feels like a detail that might be important later.
As for Marco - gotta admit the man is brilliant in military matters of space warfare and I look forward to the surprise he has in store for the "Inners"; the man is no fool and his trap will (or better) be very creative (and likely will be.) After what Inners did to belter's all these decades, I certainly see their point of view. But Marco - damaging Earth in that manner so it is heading for eco collapse - is being purely military and dooming the Belters in the long run - they need Earth (Ceres can't handle the load and they lost Ganymede Station earlier). This lack of foresight is consistent with his skill set - all military and no society building skills.
Great summation of episode 2 but I think you left out an important point. Amos revealing Peaches being on board the Roci to Bobbie and subsequently Avasarala. Also, Amos's "deal with it" attitude, making it clear that he was firmly behind Peaches.
Yikes!! A liberal storyline we have seen a thousand times before. No such thing as a bad ‘kid’. Read a newspaper they are all over the school grounds killing other ‘kids’!
In space life is frugile ,meaning of mother, son, father, friend must be different and change drastically especially very understanding of life is radically challenged by alien tech. Still this so called realistic space drama is more whinny than any soap drama.
I'm liking the Strange Dogs segments. Very close to the novella even down to foreshadowing events (don't want to spoil but it's kinda obvious when she's running home). I'm glad I know the story but can understand if some viewers find it pointless. Just give it a chance. It's actually very interesting....☺️
Hey Pete, do you think that there’s a scene of the Zenobia short-web extra purposely there to set up or explain Avasarala possibly dying from a stroke or heart attack, all brought on or exacerbated by exhaustion?
Everything is just working in the episode. Some great writing and acting, and some laughs. Plus Bobbie in power armor and Clarissa saving the day. Let me know what you think.

PS: Amos' reaction to "I'm not in this for the money" was hilarious.
Just a 'what the hell is wrong with you?'
One of those booms could have been Bobbie's armor being peeled off of her if Clarissa had not taken Naomi's place. Wonder if Bobbie will thank her in the next episode. Clarissa doesn't need no body armor, she does that with her bare hands.
Hope they get the salvage value for the spy ship... that would be fair...

I would dare to say one of the best series period. With any luck we will get more Expanse in some form like a miniseries or a couple of movies.
Would not call it hard sci-fi due to this whole proto molecule stuff. But yeah, the tension is incredible!
Are there tv shows that are hard sci fi? I would be interested in them but I can’t think of any. The expanse is the closest that I’m aware of
The Chrisjen/Monica exchange has become one of my favorite conversation scenes in the entire series.
I agree 100%. A perfect character pairing.
I re watched this scene couple of times myself. Just sad that we won't be having the honor again
I wish avasalara was a real person
"It was the first time he said i'm a part of the crew" moment by Clarissa was soooo cute and classy and well staged, just heartwarming. Gives me a bit of Firefly vibes.
I was listening to Holden speech to Clarissa.... and was like.... WAIT WAIT.... WAIT...... did he just refer to her as a part of the crew??? :D ...... its like in Fast and Furious.... Dom would say it at best: "we are not friends, we are family" .... and since now is Clarisa also part of Rocinante family
So looking forward to Drummer and Walker causing all kinds of grief for Marco.
Can't wait for Marco to ask, "Who did this to me?" and then being told, "It was Drummer, again!" That would be 2 for 2 that Drummer will have humiliated Marco.
Somehow, Marco is even more detestable with a man-bun.
Great episode. Liang Walker is a fun new character. Marine Bobbie is the best Bobbie.
Agreed, that man bun 😆
@@brandonreed09 Belters are just a different culture altogether. We inners just can't understand how one could follow a leader with a man bun.. thats why we are ignorant for the belters plight.

Definitely made it even easier to hate him....and I'm going to love watching Liang Walker do his thing. LOL!!
@@georgelionon9050 what are you talking about. People have man buns irl. Yes even some leaders have man buns. This one just made him look rediculous.
Glad to know it wasn't just me. It felt short. When the credits rolled, I was like "How is it over already?".
Really great example in this episode of why it's almost impossible to board a spaceship without taking out the enemies engines.
I feel like with the success of the mission they should try to get a pardon for Peaches. She was vital to that success, which will likely save millions of human lives on earth.
It’s funny that the entire cast and crew have specific issues. All of them. Chrissy will pardon Peaches. Ain’t crap on earth left anyways.
She already saved all of humanity by fucking up Ashford at the end of season 3. What's a girl got to do for redemption after that.
@@mr.duanesharpe right… like are there felons in jail on earth still? Bc like what’s the point
@@earlofsked6991 yea but nah. They gave Holden the credit. His credit score was much higher than hers.
Always a nice Roci pursuit scene
Just Noticed the burning red metal as the drive plume hut roci hull
It happened a couple of times, also it had some cool sound effect like crackling.
the level of detail they go to on this show continues to impress me to this day, those shots were amazing
This show is well done! But only 6 episodes! I have a hard time enjoying the show because I'm missing it already!
I do wish Cas Anwar hadn’t pickled himself. Not having Alex as part of the crew and flying the Roci, is just not the same.
Agree
Amos “do you get paid extra for this?” was my favorite lol
Well it's clear that Naomi could really use some REM sleep followed by a spa day. She is clearly suffering from PTSD because of her experiences aboard the Pella & Chetzemoka. It's sad to see a Belter who can't go into the void.
Yeah, it was kinda funny when Miller wasn't comfortable with it, but this...
She's thinking about Alex who was a Martian
Bobbie calling Amos Pee Wee when he inquires about the suit. LOVED IT!!!! Only Bobby.
It is justice, seeing how Amos calls everyone something, remember Tiny? hehehe
Chrisjen Avasarala's response to Monica Stuart is from the Woody Allan movie 'Love and Death'. Countess Alexandrovna: "You are the greatest lover I've ever had."
Boris (Woody Allan) : "Well, I practice a lot when I'm alone."
@@1chrisford It's a direct quote dummy.
“Left wanting more in the end.” -The Expanse, Season 6.
Walker is rookie-of-the-year so far. I liked that guy right away.
@@Beltalowda55 it's not just because of the time gap.. Amazon just said no.
@@steriopticon2687 There was more action filmed, but they cut it down for pacing and to make it seem more chaotic.
Walker had me interested the moment he came on screen. Looking forward to Drummer having an ally to spark off - I miss Ashford. Got a bit choked up when Peaches realised Holden considered her part of the crew. And Bobby got her armor on. Really enjoyed this one.
I am so bummed that this series is ending.
*depends on what ending means...might translate to something potentially more interesting*
I agree, I almost want to find the pirate versions and watch all of them. But the bonus content in the episode helped calm that desire.
This episode burned real fast , I had the same feeling like that’s it!
What do you mean 4 episodes left? 😱
This episode is short, fast, straight to point with satisfying and fascinating results. Couldn't ask for more
I did not find it satisfying I definitely wanted a lot more with only four episodes left it is sad we can all pretend that we're okay with it but I'm sure most are not or maybe I just love this show too much
It was too short and felt like an interlude, not a full chapter of the story.
@@crypto_pinto2660 I feel cheated.
@@irafair3015 tell me about it they going to spend the next four episode still building characters
I’m not shattered but undoubtedly it could have been stretched out over 8 to 10 episodes and I’d feel a lot better.
Clarissa just wants a family and I think she has found one, First time in her life.
I'm honestly enjoying how awful Naomi is doing. Feels deserved.
This is the last season, it's been cancelled.
The CW is rebooting Babylon 5 with the original creator at the helm. It will be interesting to see how that goes.
Great recap, as always, thanks Pete.
When I search “expanse” , your vids are second after prime paid one. Nice .
U the man on the expanse rt now.
That opener for this breakdown was sick.
I really do not get this settler family letting their daughter roam wild outside on a toxic alien planet? That just bugs me!
Don't worry, they have a spare child. And it looks like they are young enough to have more if needed.
That honestly never occurred to me when I first read the story.
and who leave the young boy at home by himself???
LOL yeah can tell who has kids and who doesn't based off the reaction to that.
Bobby Draper is bad azz period! She just handles business and gets the job done.
If you see Bobby fighting a Proto Beast, don't help Bobby help the Proto Beast.
Terminators run and hide from Bobby.
Candyman says Bobby's name 3 times in the mirror.
When dating Bobby. "Oh, excuse me for a moment, I'm gonna slip into something more comfortable". ... comes back in power armor.
Loved that in the book the first time I read it haha
I'm hopeful that Clarissa will finally be accepted as part of the crew in Naomi's eyes. Clarissa saved the day with Naomi's freeze-up, and saved Bobbie's life on the mission! I don't think Naomi will try to cover up her freeze with Holden. She's admit that she froze, and she'll give credit to Clarissa. Hopefully, Naomi will climb down off her sanctimonious high horse and start treating Clarissa better.
It's weird in the show because in the books Holden couldn't accept her being there and Naomi was the voice of reason.
@@PetePeppers1 I'm glad I haven't read the books. It's muddies the waters. I read and watched all of The Hunger Games, and the screenwriters stuck very closely to the books. If anything, they just had to leave out certain scenes. No time. But they didn't skew the storyline or characters.
@@PetePeppers1 It's also more understandable it's harder for the person to forgive that was personally targeted to be killed..

Feels very lean.
Just thinking of the last books in a visual medium makes me so happy. But i dont know how you would handle it properly
Funny, I had to re-watch the Clarrisa scene also. Some of the belter dialogue is hard to follow. Thanks for the recap.
Pop a cap in him. I'm done with that aspect of his humanity
I was not ready for the episode to end
Fantastic episode. Thanks for the recap, Pete!
A short but solid episode! Things are definitely ramping up!

The space chase made me break out in a chill sweat! It was thrilling!!
It always bothers me how off the hair is for the so called “zero g” scenes tho. Takes me right out of it.
@@spacecadet2172 fair enough i mean normally their hair is ether done up in a certain way or short or in helmets lol but i get it!
Holden uses 'Peaches' only because he has to reach her on an open channel - once they're secure, he calls her Clarissa.
I was like WHAATTTTT when he called her that and I can only imagine Amos's reaction to that

I like Walker. He's a real pirate / buccaneer.
Walker is a total, RUGGED man.

This episode was great! It really was a moral booster. Everyone is getting back in the fight.
GREEAT recap. You're doing The Expanse as well as AltShiftX did w/ Westworld. Thanks!
Agree that as taut and lean as the episodes are we, as fans, just want more. I could have happily watched ten minutes of Amos and Clarissa chatting in the med bay with flashbacks to action outside the ship. Like many commenters, I’m quietly starting to mourn the end of a classic.
I agree with the "shortness" I love this show and find it hard to think we have 4 episodes left.
I'm still struggling to imagine how the scenes with the little girl and the creatures fit in with the rest of the plot, and why they warrant so much screen time in a six-episode final season....
Same
because otherwise it would be a five-episode final season? :)
@@1chrisford I care more about the builders than the free navy. This all feels like a sub plot taking away precious screen time from the actual juice.
I think I will be sad when The Expanse is finished. Loving it!
I do like this series and wish it would continue for a long time!
Loved it. Really hope it gets to keep going somewhere.
this episode felt way to short
Great action sequence, solid character development. Marco becomes less interesting as we learn that power really is the only item on his shopping list; the opposite is possibly true for Filip. Down side is that after TWO episodes this season is one-third done. Not OK.
Too short. TOO SHORT! If the last episode finishes as quickly as these two episodes did, I will not be happy. Battlestar Galactica is a completely different beast, but I really enjoyed have they did their ending over two episodes. It was very very satisfying. Unless the last two episodes get pushed out to an hour or more I predict we may get a finale that leaves you disappointed and wanting
great episode.... aaaggghhh i so wish there where more episodes... but so far so good.... can't wait for the next one!! :)
Another impeccable episode of The Expanse.
Wish you'd talked about the exchanges between Holden, Amos and Bobby about Peaches. Loved that and Peaches' reaction to getting chewed out by Holden.
when claryssa started to cry, that holden accepted her as a part of crew..... I was like: I AM NOT CRYING.... YOU ARE CRYING :D
i dont want this to be the last season im getting too hype for the future already
There are always the books. Paper and audio
Masterpiece. Best tv series ever.
I hope to see next... episode.
Great video! Very well explained!
Why haven’t they been making these hour long episodes ??? That’s my only disappointment
Fantastic episode .. Hate to see this end .
Spot on, my friend!
So many possible spin off shows. Totally agree, both season 6 episode endings have me saying "what? It's finished"
Great summation of episode 2 but I think you left out an important point. Amos revealing Peaches being on board the Roci to Bobbie and subsequently Avasarala. Also, Amos's "deal with it" attitude, making it clear that he was firmly behind Peaches.
six episodes for the final season is a tragedy!
Blame the Rona, it stuffed up production time tables etc.
I am still worried that the season will degenerate into a sob story about Flip pouting for his mother with Marcos defeated by Flip's betrayal
Yikes!! A liberal storyline we have seen a thousand times before. No such thing as a bad ‘kid’. Read a newspaper they are all over the school grounds killing other ‘kids’!
@@loriannwhite8384 we could do a conservative story line and have the Martians and Earthers' attack their government and attack their police
I only watch this show to see the alien tech because I find it and it's builders more interesting than most of the characters, lol.
show runners dont understand that. They are showing generic drama abundant . Very less alien tech. Show runners have degenerated .
@@pratapnavayan360 It's true.
Where is the content regarding the final book, and the conclusion of the entire Expanse story, Leviathan Falls? Really looking forward to that!
This episode was awesome!
Rosenthal is like a rebound girlfriend, but for commanding a spaceship. She probably encourages that man bun.
I was hoping to see that last anubis class ship in this epizode. Would have been perfect for this mission.
Best Sci-fi show of all time, so bummed its the last season.
Hey Pete, do you think that there’s a scene of the Zenobia short-web extra purposely there to set up or explain Avasarala possibly dying from a stroke or heart attack, all brought on or exacerbated by exhaustion?
I think EVERY episode leaves us wanting more!
