After a lifetime sojourn and trying every pleasure in this known world St. Augustine in his book The Confession summed it all his life in this word; Our hearts are restless untill it rest to Thee My Lord and My God.

Great conversation, but need to listen more than once to understand thoroughly. And success for the dissertation, Fr. Pine!

On Humility and Pride; St Thomas Aquainas at the end of his life was asked why he stopped writing more about God and stopped on his 12 volumes of the Summa Theologica he replied it is out of humility and pride that i stopped writing about God we no one can write and discern about the totality what God is, and it Pride to pursue such endeavour; even if we seek and write about Him the whole world cannot contain all the books on Him! Humility-no one can write and discern about the totality of what God is. It is Pride to pursue such endeavour even if we seek and write about God the whole world can not contain all the books on God as subject of human understanding. In short, as one saint has said:" believe in God then you may understand God." As Jesus Christ says: "try me and you will see."

Those who wants to be first will be last and those who are last will be first in the Kingdom of Heaven, our Lord Jesus Christ washes the feet of His disciples when He taught this to them! K

Fr. Gregory, sorry for going off-topic, but could you give some advice on how to convince a non-religious friend (who isn't interested in rigorous philosphical arguments) that early abortion, too, is murder, or alternatively, that early fetuses are already human? I used the argument that at this point, it's not just a potential human anymore, but an actual person in the making. It's already a unique genetic combination that will result in one specific person and this combination will never again be achieved if the fetus gets aborted, so it's basically killing a specific person that almost certainly would have existed otherwise. However, such arguments aren't really effective to convince people who don't see a difference between aborting an early fetus and masturbation or using a condom. To them, it's all just potential, not actual.

Humility is a complex subject. It is not "natural" for humans to be humble due to original sin. Once a person achieves perfect humility, he tends to be very proud of the achievement.
