“Prehistoric Dog” by Red Fang has some really fat, crunchy guitars like this song. Anything off of the first few The Sword records will sound this way too. “Iron Swan” or “Freya” are two great examples of early The Sword.
Their album from 1997, 'The Action Is Go', is STILL on a semi-regular rotation of albums that I always have handy for parties and road trips, it's one of the most quintessential fun, jamming albums ever released. I'd also HIGHLY recommend literally any song from the album 'Coping With The Urban Coyote' by Unida, that album has a weird history behind it and how it got released but OH MAN is it an absolute masterpiece of catchy tunes and stoner tracks.
Kyuss, Gardenia or Demon Cleaner and Red Fang wires. Killer tunes. Pretty much anything Kyuss honestly. Welcome to sky valley is my favorite Kyuss album
King of the road is a killer track as well. High On Fire: 10,000 years. You could even get on the darker side of stoner metal. Dopethrone: Dark Foil. its really sludgey groovy negative/bleak. Not many songs about smoking herion. DOPETHRONE - Dark Foil - TH-cam.
If he does stoner rock week and doesn’t dive into any of Matt Pikes work he’s clearly missed the point… HOF or Sleep… HOF album the art of self defense is up there in my favorite all time albums!

Bro, if you review a Sleep song it would be a dream come true to me! Sonic Titan is a personal favorite, but Holy Mountain and Dragonaut are also killers (won't mention Dope smoker/Jerusalem cause it's a fucking hour long music). And also the two other bands that the members of sleep founded, High of fire (Rumors of War and 10.000 years would be my suggestion) and Om (wich has a more meditative approach, some might say, but songs like "Meditation is the practice of Death" are a good example that this guy's aren't joking around, one of my favorites bass/drums duos ever) are too damn good for this earth.
Definitely will want to check out Monster Magnet, especially their early to mid 90s stuff (Superjudge and Dopes to Infinity were particularly good albums)
Not hating on anyone, but I'd love to see less prog-metal and more stoner rock, or anything else lol. Fu Manchu "Furniture" is great too. You should also check out early Clutch for good rifftastic stoner rock too. Tight Like That, Green Buckets, Rock and Roll Outlaw, Shogun Named Marcus etc. Love ya Geebz
After suggesting an hour long stoner song, I just had a thought... Would you consider a full reaction of Dark Side Of The Moon? I think we'd ALL love that!
I haven't heard this in over half a decade. What a treat this is!!! Thank you Geebz! If you're digging the stoner sound, I hugely recommend some Kyuss. Maybe Demon Cleaner or One Inch Man. If you want something stonery but a lot more deep and dark, Jerusalem by Sleep is where it's at (but it's just a *bit* long!)
"Jerusalem by Sleep is where it's at (but it's just a bit long!)" It clocks in a 1:03:35, defiantly worth the listen. Would love to see Geebz do it, how many of us would watch a two hour Geebz stream? th-cam.com/video/hIw7oeZKpZc/w-d-xo.html
Brant Bjork - drummer Was a founding member of Kyuss, left when they started getting too big… joined Fu Manchu. He writes a lot of the songs and has some killer solo stuff. This drum feel is classic brant
The first time ever i saw the term "stoner rock" in itunes or whatever was - The Melvins - they'd b good for your stonerrock week. "A History of Bad Men", "Civilized Worm" are good ones from the senile animal album
Fu Manchu is indeed a two guitar band. And one of my personal favorites. I recommend 'Superbird', 'Trapeze Freak' and pretty much anything off of 'In Search Of...'. Preferably played at high volume.
Fu Manchu is badass! Gotta check out their cover of Godzilla! You always seem to get the intention of the music so quickly. Killin' it in the practice room is exactly what the whole genre is about. Rockin' out and causing noise complaints. Other bands, I think you really should check out for the stoner week, are Sleep, Electric Wizard, and obviously Kyuss. I think most people will agree these bands are just about the epitome of the genre. Other bands I appreciate personally that deserve recognition in the space are YOB, The Well, and Acid King! Would love to see you cover any of these, I think you would really appreciate YOB Geebz. I'm just going to edit this comment with more Stoner bands, for no reason other than to list some I like; Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, Conan, High on Fire, Windhand, Petyr (Tony Hawk's son's band), Asteroid, Earthless, King Buffalo, Green Druid, Red Fang, Destroyer of Light. Maybe not so heavy but I really wanna list them too, Somali Yacht Club, more progressive rock but there are some stoner bits.
There's definitely enough of this genre to sustain a full month. If you go back to Elder, I'd recommend the title track off their latest album Omens. Lore and Dead Roots Stirring would be great to do later, however I think their new album is differentiated so much that it's a better next step. Lore and DRS are phenomenal but more similar to the Reflections sound.
IMO stoner rock is divided into 2 types. There is stuff like this, Clutch and QOTSA...some Monster Magnet, that is simple rock thay just driiiiiiives. RIFF CITY! Then there's the psychedelic stuff...which Monster Magnet also does. Can you tell I like Monster Magnet?
Great reaction decomposition! An up and coming band I'm certain you would appreciate in this genre is All Them Witches. They came through town years ago and opened the show before Mastadon who preceded Primus. An amazing show. ATW's song Talisman is one of my favorites. I hope you'll check em out.
Fu Manchu was the first stoner rock band I saw (at Reading Festival in the UK in 1998) never stopped loving them, and the wider genre. Also love the edges where it starts to melt into garage and psychedelia, bands like Slift (track called Ummon is killer) and All Them Witches.

First stoner rock song I learned and was the first song I took my guitar off of the treble and overdrive setting on my line6 played on the blues setting and both humbucker engaged.
Weird coincidence that I just began listening to their Action Is Go album as you posted this. Awesome band, especially for skating. Could you possibly try decomposing this amazing track? It's called Ankh by Temples. I consider it Stoner Rock, but they're British, and leaning more on a 60s psychedelia sound. Really curious to know what you think of their production as they did it all from a laptop in their apartment.
Fun fact, Brant Bjork from kyuss was in Fu Manchu at this time. Josh Homme actually performed on this album too, in not sure which tracks but he's there!
Great that you've covered Fu Manchu! They're amongst the best riff writers in Stoner Rock. Other Fu Manchu Songs you could do: Evil Eye, Godzilla, Squash That Fly, Mongoose, Hell On Wheels
I mean, like someone else mentioned, the entire album The Action Is Go is absolutely top notch, but I’d especially like to hear your take on Saturn III.
Man this track was good! I never delved into Stoner Rock as far as I know by choice, but I feel now that I def listen to a lot of bands that might be classified as such. This gives me a vibe similar to The Sword mixed with Year Long Disaster. And I gotta say, speaking of The Sword, I really want to hear some ASG coming on here, Geebz! All Month Long, Baby!!! Still pushing for Monster Magnet. "Last Patrol", "Cry", "Temple Of Your Dreams", "End Of Time, "Crop Circle" and "Heads Explode."
Stoner Rock week? We just lost an icon. Will Mecum from Karma to Burn. Recommend something from their debut as tribute. One of my all time favourite albums of any genre. Ma Petite Mort or Pattie Hearst's Closes Mantra are both great. But it's impossible to pick from such a great album.
I love Fu Manchu! Here's some more crunchy stoner rock giants: Clutch - "Spacegrass" Down - "Stone the Crow" or "Ghosts Along the Mississippi" (This is Phil and Rex from Pantera, Pepper from COC and Kirk from Crowbar) Super Heavy Goat Ass - "Druglord" Them Crooked Vultures - "Mind Eraser, No Chaser" (This is Josh from QOTSA, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones) Wo Fat - "Riffborn" Witch Mountain - "Psycho Animundi" Dig it!!! 🤘😎🤘
There are so many amazing stoner rock bands, you're gonna be at this for a while lol. You should try Monolord-Rust, Truckfighters-Mind control or High On Fire-Ethereal... love your work !!🤘 Cheers
I got to ride at Indian dunes when I was younger before they closed it down. There was talks of opening it back up before i left in 93 to move to AZ, but never followed up to see if it was approved. Fun place. Wasn't too far from where i lived in Granada hills and Sylmar. Man we sure got our moneys worth on the Magic Mountain season passes back then.
You gotta deconstruct another Tame Impala song. All of his music is incredibly dense and im sure you would have fun looking for all the layers. Maybe "Let it Happen" or "Apocalypse Dreams"
Funeralopolis by Electric Wizard is a must. When the main riff kicks in it just blows you into next week
All Them Witches - When God Comes Back
Truckfighters - Desert Cruiser
Kyuss - Green Machine
The Sword - Freya or Iron Swan
“Prehistoric Dog” by Red Fang has some really fat, crunchy guitars like this song. Anything off of the first few The Sword records will sound this way too. “Iron Swan” or “Freya” are two great examples of early The Sword.
Barael's Blade by The Sword is also killer
Gooooood call.
I haven't heard that name in a long time, Red Fang is sick!
Arrows from the new album or Wires are also really strong shouts IMHO. Red Fang rules and their videos are top shelf.
Yes!!!! Red Fang are killer 🔥🤘
Their album from 1997, 'The Action Is Go', is STILL on a semi-regular rotation of albums that I always have handy for parties and road trips, it's one of the most quintessential fun, jamming albums ever released.

As someone who plays in a stoner/doom band, I can confirm that "set up the mic, fucking rock" is the exact thought process
And we love you for it :D and by you I mean all musicians keeping doom/stoner going
And we love all of you for the support
Uncle Acid are a super good and unique stoner metal band you should do this week! Keep it up man :)
100%
I would say Melody Lane is requisite, but any of it is killer. (But especially all of The Night Creeper)
I was just coming here to mention Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats
Definitely top 5 for me and one of the most underrated stoner bands.
Dude, yes. Uncle Acid is like the Beatles version of metal. That would be sick
Stoned Jesus - I'm The Mountain 🤘
Clutch - Space Grass
Here's some riff-heavy tracks in various degrees of intensity:
Truckfighters - Desert Cruiser
Witch - Seer
Windhand - Orchard
YOB - Quantum Mystics
Ughhhhhh that Truckfighters riff is bananas.
TruckFighters are just the utter bomb. Saw them live a couple times, always knocked it outta the park.
@@TheGreatJon The Mastadon't track gives me chills
Kyuss, Gardenia or Demon Cleaner and Red Fang wires.
Killer tunes. Pretty much anything Kyuss honestly. Welcome to sky valley is my favorite Kyuss album
my man already did a reaction to Gardenia ;)
Guess I missed it. Oh well lol
Also, I HIGHLY recommend you to check out Orange Goblin! Heavy Lies The Crown should be right up your alley, frikin amazing catchy riffs
Stoner September! Hell yeah! I'd even be down for it to turn into a once a week feature afterwards.
I'm definitely not hating the idea
Stoner Rock isn't even close to my favorite subgenre, but I absolutely support you spending the rest of the month on it
Clutch-A Quick Death in Texas

Om is some pretty unique music.
and Sleep is pretty much the best band ever
I would watch the video on Dopesmoker no problem!
Has anyone suggested some old Monster Magnet? Something like "Nod Scene" would be pretty interesting.
Yes i did some months ago! When you do some stoner bands, Monster Magnet cannot be ignored! Dinosaur Vacume is my favorite!
Absolutely. Power Trip and Dopes to Infinity came out when I was in college.
Monolithic Baby is the shit!
Fu Manchu is great! Love the guitar tone- It's literally just a vintage super fuzz into a Marshall! Just, perfection!
Also, check out their track "Ojo Rojo"- best opening line ever. And a killer riff.
Never heard these guys before, but I like it. Down the rabbit hole I go!
You're in for a treat! Enjoy!
wont regret it, hope you still going
Definitely will want to check out Monster Magnet, especially their early to mid 90s stuff (Superjudge and Dopes to Infinity were particularly good albums)

Such a great album closer
What about some YOB 'Beauty in falling leaves' since we are heading into Autumn. Thanks again for Stoner Week !
YES!!! Glad we are here.
Corrosion of Conformity and Down are MUST listens in this "genre"🤘
Maybe Albatross or Ghosts Along the Mississippi🤙
I was just gonna bring up both of thoes bands
Can't say I ever thought of either of those bands as stoner bands.
@@soulcrusher807 I agree, lol. Stoners in a band do not neccesarily a stoner band make. That said, I would not be mad at him checking those out.
Evil Eye and their cover of Godzilla (BOC) will always stand out as my favourites.
This is the right answer
Fu Manchu - " Grendal Snowman".... Another awesome stoner track is "Funeralopolis" by Electric Wizard
After suggesting an hour long stoner song, I just had a thought...
Would you consider a full reaction of Dark Side Of The Moon?
I think we'd ALL love that!
Stoner rock and metal for the rest of the month! Go on ya good thing :)
Does this week's theme mean you will be fully baked by day 7?
A full month would probably be a lot of memory loss
A full month will require stronger substances.

I'd recommend All Them Witches - Diamond. It's an intense slow-burn.
Brant Bjork - drummer

More fu Manchu - Saturn III, King of the road, pigeon toe
Agreed. Geebz, if you want to study the core of the stoner sound dont stray too far from Brant Bjork.

How we loved Stoner Rock while enjoying a joint as teenagers in the early '90s....
