I could see this from my West Kilbride window. My young boys named Ailsa, Nanny's bun as it looked like one of her rock buns!!

I’m embarrassed Ailsa Craig was only known to me as an onion until now. A very nice onion it is too.

Fascinating material. Suggestions for future videos: (1) No need for the sidebar beyond a minute or two at the start (2) Try to synchronise the video better with the script so that when describing a building you are actually seeing the building being described...

Interesting that you pronounce it 'Al-sa'.
I live in Ayr, most people I hear pronounce it 'Ale-za'.
Who's to say who's 'correct' just interesting to see how people pronounce things differently

Can you please pronounce the island name correctly?!?! The name is not ALSA. It is AIL-SA. AIL as in English for unwell.

And Robert LEWIS Stevenson?? Using American pronunciation instead of Louis the way the French meant it to be said.

In 1991 the island was cleared of rats, did New Zealand experience have anything to do with that?

In the winter, it is snow capped. And looks, for all the world to see, like a big Christmas pudding. Other times it looks like king kongs forehead.
Depends on your poetic perspective. It's also called the fairy isle.

I don't think they should allow mining of granite if the island is protected. Such a unique place being mined for such a stupid reason.

@@Phil-oj5nr I just ask for consistency. If the island needs protecting, protect it. The rules that restrict human intervention should also restrict mining. If they have mining, they should remove the protected status.

@craigroaring No tourism allowed it's too destructive and every boat brings a chance to reintroduce rats to the island. A lot of Scotland is being destroyed due to tourism but the Scottish government just see the pound signs.

If it’s not bad enough hearing non-Scots mispronounce names we have a Scot mispronouncing Scottish names.
Ail-sa not Al-sa. And Loo-ee not Lewis. We’re not Americans yet.
Otherwise not a bad wee film.
