One thing you DONT want to follow this guide on is the FIRST Eddie battle area. Do NOT use the chainsaw on him in the first area like this guy did. INSTEAD use the steal pipe. When the cutscene is playing hold down R2 and X to swing the steel pipe down and keep holding those buttons down. Then press start to quit the cutscene and Eddie will charge at you. BUT you are already holding down R2 and X, so Eddie just keeps getting hit with the steel pipe. So just hold those 2 buttons down until Eddie runs away into the 2nd area. Then on the NEXT area you want to hold R1 and square and quit the cutscene. Eddie will shoot right away but by holding R1 and square you will strafe past it. Then what you want to do is hide behind a piece of meat so he can't shoot you, and hit him with the Giant Knife you got from the Labyrinth everytime he comes at you. It only takes 4 hits with the giant knife to take Eddie out.
I'm Brazilian and I'm translating this text through google, so sorry if it sounds like a robot talking. You helped me a lot with this guide! bro, Eddie's part is very RNG, it's worse than malenia! Thank you very much my friend, in Brazil no one has yet made a guide as complete as yours. My next step now is to start silent hill 3, enjoy it and complete it. I played on xbox 360
Amazing guide, will definitely use this for my 10 star tries. I've also got a helpful tip for the elevator hallway chase. I've had and seen multiple instances in which Pyramid Head spawns in front of Maria, which completely takes out the possibility of Maria dying in that scenario. Likewise, I've set out to permanently replicate this possibility and found a way to consistently get it down (At least for the PC version, haven't been able to test it out on other platforms). To make this happen, go through the door that takes you into the hallway and wait for Maria to begin her idle animation. Once you see her entering her idle animation, bolt down the hallway and quickly turn the corner to make Pyramid Head spawn. Because Maria's still processing to exit her idle animation - and to begin walking/running after you - gives enough space between you and her in which Pyramid Head spawns (At least, that's what I presume that's happening). The only thing you'll have to worry about now is a lightning speed Pyramid Head that's chasing you instead of Maria, but at least it'll take out the RNG of Maria dying in this scenario lol.
In the well at 1:36:00, use the wooden plank and swing at the wall continuously. It will bounce back when it hits the wall you need to break. I was surprised seeing the steel pipe being used. I'm planning on attempting this run within the next month or so. Been absorbing all the best tips and playthroughs to mentally prepare, haha. Thank you so much for posting your run!!
Your work and your videos have definitely been something to marvel at. They are truly magnificent. As always keep up with the phenomenal work you do and never give up on the Silent Hill 2 HD Platinum, you're so close to earning it. Take care Matt 🙂.
Just dropped here to give a like and a lot of thanks to you for this video. 1 week ago I started my platinum runs for this and today I got my trophies on ps3! Your guide was really really helpful so thank you again, my friend :)
Thanks for the guide. Sucks that you were so close with the boat, literally 1 second off. It's been a while since you uploaded this. You may have the 10 Star Rank already, but if not and for anyone reading, if you hold the run button down on the boat you'll row faster.
Why does nobody just swap run/walk in the options menu, so James runs by default and walks if you hold Square? I see comments like this all the time and it makes me feel like there's some advantage to leaving it on the default setting that I've overlooked haha
Dude your commentary is legend. I’m attempting the platinum for SH2 as I type, and I can’t help but laugh my ass off. Your truly entertaining. The amount of times I’ve fucked up already is insane. I decided to start from scratch with no result saves. I’m about maybe 70% on the trophy run.
Great guide. One thing I think may be wrong is needing a separate save per ending. I never understood how saving worked in this but noticed you can’t get multiple endings for one play through since it’ll only count one ending in the result save file even if you load back and do another. So by that logic, since it records the number of endings based on the latest result save, you should only need one that has 4/4 +3. And I think actually you don’t even need 4/4 +3, I think it can be 3/4 +3 or 4/4 +2 but not sure exactly. One part I struggle with is the first pyramid head fight. I have PTSD from it because of the way he turns and auto-aims that one shot overhead swing at you, especially late into the fight. I’ve had runs where it seems like it’s going perfectly, then I’ll realize I’m too close to the wall to dodge, so I’ll try to run past him real quick, then he turns into me as I’m running and one shots me with that swing. And during these ten star runs my nerves seem to get the best of me, so it happens a lot. I’m hoping I can copy what you do here really and that not happen again.
You're correct, the game only credits you with one ending at a time, since the post-game save file is basically saving the data for that playthrough. And like you said there are many combos of endings possible. Any five of the six endings to the main game (Leave, Maria, In Water, Rebirth, Dog & UFO) will work. They're all worth 0.4 stars for a maximum of 2.0 in the Endings Clear category. In the original release, that was equivalent to getting all the endings-the three regular endings, Rebirth, and Dog. Future releases added Born From A Wish (X) and the UFO ending (U), with X being required to unlock U. So they made the UFO ending equivalent to the Dog ending, meaning the seven valid combos are: 4/4+3: All endings; LMWRDUX 4/4+1: No extra content; LMWRD (the vanilla path; 100% in the original release) 4/4+2: Born From A Wish & UFO ending, LMWRUX, or Born From A Wish plus Dog instead of UFO, LMWRDX (can't get U without X) 3/4+3: Any three of LMWR and both gag endings, e.g. LMW or LMR or LWR or MWR, plus DUX (it's strange to imagine someone getting every ending /except/ Leave, but it's technically possible) The main takeaway is that Born From A Wish makes no difference either way, you won't get any credit for it, except in the sense that it unlocks the UFO ending which can substitute for the Dog ending. Hopefully you got that 100%! The first Pyramid Head fight is early enough that it's worth making a separate Hard save right before it to practice the fight if need be. If that's the part that trips you up, that probably works in your favor in the long run, since the other common reset points (Hospital basement chase, Eddie, boat) are quite a ways further in. If you're comfortable with the basement chase, you could even just save before the first boss instead of in the hospital. That way, if Maria dies in the chase, you'd only lose 15 minutes or so. It's not much more than going from a new game to the first boss.
This game broke me from the platinum due to the fact I like the story but the trophy list was insane but silent hill 3 is my favorite game of all time so Ik that game by heart and that platinum was so easy for me

lol how did you f up the boat part that much? you didn't even get half of the max speed. you literally just move forward once you are lined up with the sun good guide overall though and besides the boat part, you did good
On hard mode the you have to rotate both sticks in certain directions to turn and move forward. I think both sticks counter clockwise to turn left, clockwise to turn right, and left counter clockwise and right clockwise to move forward. It’s easy to mess up if you aren’t perfectly in sync with both sticks.

because of the boat
23:40 10 Star requirements
it is almost imposible to get this
Hello, how do I unlock the extra difficulty (riddle) to beat the game one last time and unlock the 10 stars?
Clear the game in all riddle difficulties then select hard riddle difficulty. That should start the game in extra riddle difficulty.
I thought using the chainsaw took away a star?
Yeah I read that too before i attempted the run but there's footage on youtube of people getting 10 stars even after using it
Hey if I need to pick up all 4 rebirth items for the 10 star how does the game not end with the rebirth ending but rather the dog ending?
the game doesn’t end with the rebirth ending because you need to kill the final boss and the dog ending skips the last two bosses
So to get the dog ending all you need to do is have the dog key a nd enter the double doors next to room 312
Even if you have all the items for rebirth, it does the dog ending instead
