This song brings back a lot of memories. I used to work at Dave & Buster's and I used to blast this song at the D&B Downs horse race game. It used to get the customers so excited that I ended up doing over 3k plays in one Saturday night. But the average before I came was only a 1k plays for the entire weekend. Everybody hated doing the horse race game but I loved it because I was able to do what I wanted to do. And also used to have a puppet frog that I would have used to spit out the tickets when people won. 😁

Kind of satisfying how Ridge Racer has such a hardcore soundtrack than other racing games. Most other soundtrack on racing games you'll find at these time might just be 90s pop song or rock at that time. But Ridge Racer? It will drove you far faster

No friends over due to Covid, I made a playlistof hardcore when I listened to it th-cam.com/video/pL964sZJgPc/w-d-xo.html Some 250 tracks that I listened between 1990-2000. The first tracks (playlist is in random order) you can really hear other styles in them at parts or as a whole.
Somewhere around 1989/1990 the typical clubhouse changed into different styles in the Netherlands and everything I heard from Germany, UK, Belgium or Italy when it comes to house music in those years; Rave, Acid, Techno, Techno, Jungle, Underground, Hardcore, Speedcore, Mellow, Dubstep and those spawned subs too, like Frenchcore, Hardstyleetc. But all styles did 'steal' from each other with samples, loops etc. So you do hear crossovers because many dj's were active producing multiple scenes.
I will post this reply in 4 posts, TH-cam might otherwiseremove due to it being spam for sure. Each country (region or city even) had sorted out 'their own mix of styles' before it became popular/mainstream. Like Germany was mainly Frankfurt am Main and then upwards to the Ruhr area near the Dutch border. Berlin was more rave andvery deep techno to more uplifting Marusha/Westbam/DaHool type of music, but the cross-overs were still there, with samples, loops and such.
Here in Rotterdam, hardcore became huge over the years. But still sort of underground for at least 5 year from 1990-1995. Even though the parties were growing bigger, it's not something 'regular' folks would even consider going to. Happy Hardcore might or might not have killed it. Styles evolve, even in the same genres. Cheers and I still have to visit Japan one day. And i hope OP doesn't mind me posting a link. It's no promotion for me or anything, just youtube videos I used for the playlist.

If the music sounds out there it's probably because they were looking for stuff that hadn't been done before. That's why Daytona's had so many vocals in it for example, because that wasn't done much yet back then so it made them stand out from Ridge Racer, I imagine the Ridge Racer composers did the same

Ridge Racer has an awesome and under appreciated soundtrack. This particular track is unbearable though. I remember even back in 1996 I was disappointed when this one would play at the start of a race. Definitely the dog of the bunch.
Wrong. You just didn't understand the motif of the soundtrack as a whole, which was various styles of techno/ electronic music. It's ok though, I've actually liked this song too much since day one so it's the one i play the lease, well besides the title track
