I found myself looking at your dog so surprised how was asleep through the whole video ..lol looks so at peace around you...u must have a good vibe around You.
GainMatch is a very handy and telling plugin. What's funny is how much the change in loudness alone deceives your brain into thinking it sounds better. I have sometimes inserted 2-3 plugins onto a track and once I run GainMatch, it sounds almost identical. Teaches you that sometimes a million plugins aren't necessary. For me, it helps with spatial and eq adjustments once you take out the loudness factor. Melda Production Auto-Align is another fav utility of mine especially when you are mixing real drums and/or bass/electric guitars where there are both a DI and mic on the cabinet. You'd be surprised how just getting the phase aligned makes eq adjustments/levels easier. You can group tracks on the plugin and so I usually have the drums on one group and any other multitracked single instrument so it only focuses on that one thing. WA Production's Outlaw is a great cheap gain rider plugin. I use it on vocals all the time. There are others on the market but I think you get can get Outlaw for sub-$15 on sale.
Totally agree - especially on the phase side of things! I’m always mesmerized by how deep and thick basses sound once the entire low end is phase coherent 🤤 Melda has some really awesome (and slept on) tools. Perhaps something to include in a future video ? 🤔 appreciate you watching and sharing insights Mark!
Great lecture sir specially it covered my curiosities regarding how to use tonal balance control , I always have question what is that specific A B type plugin that engineers use and for what u provide name walkthrough and practical ❤❤❤
Streamliner has referencing functionality, but doesn’t provide the same level of analysis as Metric AB. Metric AB gives you much more detailed insights such as frequency spectrum, phase correlation, dynamics and more (which Streamliner does not). While you can use Streamliner for simpler referencing (ie just A/B) it doesn’t have the same insights Metric AB gives you.
@@5piece So streamliner then is only good for gettng the levels right for streaming platforms ? cause im thinking how i would use them as i have tonal balance also
@@mystikrebel1089I think all 3 are different tools with a bit of overlap, but not much. I legit use all of the tools I showed in this video for different reasons. All three are used for some form of referencing, but the intention between them is different. Streamliner is mostly good for understanding how things will translate onto streaming Metric AB is good for understanding all of the nuances between your track and a reference, such as tonal balance, dynamics, phase, stereo image and so on And Tonal Balance Control 2 is mostly good for understanding the tonal balance and some more insights into the low end specifically (crest factor) Realistically, TB2 is the one that is the “lowest” priority since it’s limited to just focusing on the tonal balance, which Metric AB also covers. HOWEVER, I do prefer the GUI and overall workflow of TB2 over Metric AB. Problem is, TB2 doesn’t have the other insights Metric AB does - so that’s why it also gets used (plus it makes referencing as a whole easier with the AB) Overall, I’d say having all 3 is the best way to cover all bases. I don’t think one exactly substitutes for the other
@@mystikrebel1089For sure. I mean all of these should help make your life easier regardless by taking out the unknown of how it will compete with others, but at the same time you should try them out yourself to make sure they fit into your workflow and process and indeed make your life easier. I know they’ve helped me a ton but everyone is different. That being said, I could understand how for some, having more information actually has the opposite effect and makes the mixing process more complicated 😂 This is why I mostly use these tools towards the end of my process, as “final checks” rather than immediately. Otherwise it’d be discouraging 😢
please I've been having this issue me mixing on my pc laptop Dell,I have always been getting a hash recordings and little clicks and also when I'm mixing my vocals is like I'm hearing only my throat and low end when mixing it and the quality is very bad when I render it.l, I don't know please can it be the laptop or what do you suggest or have you ever experienced this. I use Nt2a mic/Sm7b into Ssl interace into a Dell Laptop 16gram with reaper daw
Hard to say for sure as it could be many things. I'm not exactly a trouble shooting expert, nor have I ever used Reaper so my suggestions here may or may not be helpful. The clicks itself are likely to be issues with your DAW buffer size being too low and overloading the RAM available. I personally keep my buffer size at 128 at the LOWEST when recording to minimize latency, but then increase the buffer size during mixing and mastering since all the mixing plugins will use up a lot of RAM and potentially crash the system. Bad rendering quality again could be many things. I'd start by looking at the sample rate though - as exporting or converting audio at the wrong sample rate can really mess things up and create a weird, phasey artifacted sound. Usually whatever sample rate I used for my session, I mirror on my export. Typically this is at least 48KHz 24-bit for me, but if you're having this issue with existing sessions, you'll have to evaluate what your sample rate is and render a file at the same sample rate and bit-depth, and then see if it still produces an issue. Otherwise, it could be worth trying a different mic, a different interface, a different computer and of course a different DAW. Not fun - but at least you can begin to rule out what the exact issue is if changing one of those variables fixes the issue. Hope this helps.
@@tofunmix1318Have you tried listening to your recordings outside of the DAW? I seem to remember having a similar problem many years ago but I can't remember now what the cause was. That being said, I really don't recommend the NT1A for quality recordings. I had all kinds of issues with mine and sold it after a year. The NT1 is superior. It does sound like maybe you need to adjust your buffer settings or something in the preferences menu. I use Reaper exclusively and have the same amount of RAM and my recordings sound great. The audio settings in your daw can make or break your recordings.

I know what you mean, and it’s true. My philosophy has always been to learn the “rules” of mixing (if we can even call them that) and then learn to break them through your own creative exploration. Nothing wrong with understanding how others approach the craft if it inspires your own 🚀
A lot of plugins have an adjustment for noise in the settings. Otherwise, that noise can be notched or high/low passed out with a transparent eq on the first insert.
Brother, you are a very cool man, thank you. You are an honest person that no one else does. keep it up
Thank you so much. Really appreciate this thoughtful note 🙏🏼
Its good to see a real world plugins recommendations , and not just plugins that are popular or just fun to look at.. 👍

The ADPTR plugin were on sale the last time I checked. Definitely worth it. Great video!
Metric AB too! Good time to cop either one … or both!
