      Ha ha! I got the drone last Friday but it rained quite a bit recently. I finished the video late Tuesday. It was hard not to join in when all of the other channels were talking about the rumors and leaks.

    I really appreciate the honest review. I think most people hold back when they are among the few that get advance devices for review. I like that you not only showed off the new features but also included the commentary at the end about some of the shortcomings. It was a very helpful video that inspired me to upgrade to this latest release from DJI.

      I have no issues with my mavic pro and the pro 2 is not worth the up grade unlees they had more protection for the camera how could dji not think of this i mean really. If that camera gets hit even a little thst drone is done and of course dji is gonma give youtube.com a drone before anyone else so they can promote there product. And yes they got commsions feom dji and if they say they dont llol not true but i still gottta have this drone lol lol lol

    The most important thing I’ve learned in my experience is not to ignore the battery warning when it gets low. I did just that this spring and it wound up going into return to home while the drone was under a large tree. Flew straight up into the branches. I’ve learned my lesson and also learned how to replace the camera gimble wire harness.

    Video quality wise may not be as perfect as the phantom 4 pro or the afore mentioned mavic 2 pro but I think its a very good drone. The video quality looks good enough in my opinion and you have the 4x lossless zoom, how great is that and couple that with the occusync 2.0, great battery flight times and not to forget the sensors. I think you can get some stunning work with this. Im even thinking of buying one.

    I can't believe how stabile the footage is! Of course I am a beginner. In fact I don't even own a drone yet. I'm checking different reviews to get a better idea of what drone is the right one for me. The photage at ca 12:40, (hight altitude) is that also shot with the DJI Mavic 2? Would you recomend this drone to a beginner? It feels a bit costly, but it is also costly to buy a cheaper drone with all the limitations that comes with low cost, and then stop using it because it has too many annoying flaws.

    • @travis8665
      @travis8665 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@travis8665 please read my post again. Slowly this time before you start ranting, because it's clear that you missed my point entirely. It says "annoying flaws". By annoying flaws I mean things that make every little beginner mistake critical.

  • @JohnSmith-wj2wd
    @JohnSmith-wj2wd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice to see a hands on review with an honest input. Question, how does the gimbal handle compared to the original MP? The original was quite flimsy and exposed. Even though this one is just as much exposed, is it now more solid? Also has the gimbal clamp been improved as well? It would be cool if the Mavic 2 had the same kind of clamp that the Mavic Air uses.

    I bought a Mavic 2-Zoom AND Mavic 2-Pro 30 seconds after it hit their web site..
    I also own a Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 today. My goal was to sell my Phantom 4 Pro+ V2.0 and keep the Mavic II Pro as my main 1 inch aircraft. (Keep the Zoom too as backup) However, this issue with the Mavic II Pro's "HQ" mode and "FOV" mode has me concerned.
    Questions:
    Is the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 doing a full 16x9 pixel readout and scaling to 4k? (it looks pretty damn good today)
    Is the Mavic Pro-II now pixel binning or line skipping it it's "full" 16x9 readout? (NOT the same scan as the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0)
    Is the Mavic Pro-II cropping and using a 1:1 readout and calling THIS mode "HQ"?? WTF?
    IS the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 actually using a higher quality full pixel read out than the Mavic-II Pro??
    This is one topic that really does concern me. I might not sell my P4P-2.0 if it's sensor scan is better than the Mavic-II Pro!
    DAMNIT!

    Hi Ben, I am a serious amateur photographer and only interested in images. Once both mavics were launched I thought that my option was "no brainer" with mavic 2 Pro but after seeing a lot of video comparisons and the fact that M2Z has the option of high resolution images now I am very confusing what would be the right option for me. Ed...good review...appreciate/respect your opinions...I was vacillating between the Zoom & Pro versions, but finally settled on the Pro just for the reasons you stated...video quality. Since I'm currently photographing with a P4P, I couldn't see taking a step backwards. Someday we'll see a DJI drone with both a 1" sensor & zoom, but for now, it's the M2P. Great to see somebody show one of the most important upgrades to the mavic pro . Best video by far when it comes to the actual zoom itself. It's amazing how many videos on youtube that did not give any real attention to the zoom and how it works in real time. It's called the mavic 2 "zoom" for god's sake for a reason. People reviewing it as if it just happen to be part of the name. You could do a whole video on the zoom, i don't think people quite get how amazing a 4 zoom is on a drone for this price. Especially when you wear dji goggles , imagine a tv right in front of you as your screen for flying and then multiply the size by 8. This is huge for DJI goggles users. Dji Goggle are like the playstation VR, not doing nearly as well as they should be, why. Because the only way to really experience them is to use them, any flight where you can not see your drone they are definitely a must. I could say a lot more but i will leave it there or i will never finish . Rant over 😉

    Can you zoom with the camera for pictures? instead of zooming while filming?

  • @gcomfx
    @gcomfx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The Zoom feature is awesome. It's one of the reasons I love my iPhone 8+. I could see this feature being REALLY useful filming an outdoor wedding. The farther away the better so you don't get a ton of footage with people staring up at the drone. I successfully stopped my son's pre-k soccer game when one kid spotted my drone and started yelling at all the other kids about it. Luckily, the guy running the games had asked me to, AND I waited until the last 3 minutes of the game to fly. Anyway... the DOLLY zoom in your video looks really out of focus on you in every example. Can you confirm you are seeing that issue too? Nice review, I've watched a few. I do feel they will make the cameras interchangeable which would be awesome if the price is reasonable. I'm not quite sold on upgrading from the Mavic Air just yet.

    Great review Ed, you really covered a lot of important points. About your issue with sport mode button on the controller getting switch on by accident, it happens to me often on the Mavic Pro 1 also. And I'm not quite sure where your going with the 60fps comment. This frame rate is intended for a slow motion effect, almost movies are filmed at 24fps, and almost all TV shows are filmed at 30fps. So people are accustomed to these rates, so when they see 60fps it looks odd to them. Unless your trying to achieve a slow motion type special effect, there is no reason for the typical drone pilot to use this frame rate. As a example i often use a higher frame, up to 120fps to capture snow fall, the snowfakes seem bigger and they float in the air longer. Enjoy the new Mavic Zoom, that is going to be a great drone. Very well produced video.

    I think DJI have done well, though I'm not sure which one to get. I'm keen on the Hitchcock effect but something's telling me a Hasselblad 1" will be a lot better. In terms of Zoom I generally fly close in and not interested in wildlife so I reckon at 4K you've got a lot of scope to zoom in and maintain quality, so for me I reckon as much as it would be nice to get both, I'll probably go with the Hasselblad version. Thanks Ed, awesome review!

I also have a gut feeling that dji wants to push the zoom version as the 1" sensor is something that most customers were looking for, quality with portability. The reviews that came out first all somehow biased in favor of the "creativity" the zoom offers, one top youtuber went as far as saying that zoom will be his regular drone to take with on trips... Waiting for your review on the pro version.

    Hi ed, you are one of the best as you talk slower so people can understand you follow along to retain the info better.The one thing I dislike with dji and all drone reviewers is the bogus flight time specks I just like the real time honest what it really can do time.Ron

    Did they eliminate that tap to focus and does the landing gear designed for the MP1 fit? I noticed the rear legs dont have opening like the MP1, also, will the MP1 ND filters fit the camera of the M2Z? How far back does the M2Z fly when doing the dolly zoom feature?

      There is still tap-to-focus, but it also autofocuses at startup and I think also at certain time increments. I still tap before each shot to be safe.
      The legs of the MP2 are shaped differently from the MP1, so most landing gear will not work.
      MP1 filters were usually push-on, but the Mavic 2 Zoom has a screw-off clear filter that will allow you to screw on the new MP2 filters. I believe the Mavic 2 Pro has push-on filters that are square in shape.
      The dolly zoom function flies back maybe 150 feet or so...I don't recall but that seems to be about right.

      Ok, thanks for replying, those were a few things i was wondering about, mainly about the landing gear, the ND filter and the tap to focus, because on a few shots, your image wasnt crisp. It made me go hmmm hahaha

      @@EdRickerVlogs Do you have to tap to focus when filming to, or only when taking photo? And if when filming, do you have to tap during the flight or only when start filming?
      Like your reviews a lot, so keep it up!
      Thank you from Sweden 😊

    I’m still trying figure why did DJI delay the release of these drones? Maybe they were planning to just release the pro 2 only?
    How much time have you had to test this demo unit?

    Ed, complementing my question below, my concern has to do with a comparison that I have not seen yet for landscapes photographers like me. A comparison image quality between super high res (48 megapixeles) in M2Z versus quality image of M2P (20 Megapixeles). I am a landscape photographer and use to take very few but special images. Have you already done this comparison?
    Regards from Chile

    how does Mavic 2 Pro compare video quality wise
    vs P4P?

    • @gawnsbg
      @gawnsbg 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      P4P shoots 4K up to 60fps. The 60 fps is essential to what I use my P4P for, so I am going to keep it for now.
