She almost nails it. But it's Benny aiming for Frida. I love Benny with Helen Sjogren (missing diacriticals--apologies) with "Du Ar Min Man" (errors noted) at Skansen (error noted). I didn't get the wonder of Frida until I pulled up "Weekend in Portofino" and listened to it. This woman from Norway, who grew up in central Sweden, and...JFC, the warmth of her voice, the resonance, the range--who is SHE?!?!?! And she was That Brunette in ABBA, and (flapping hands in excitement too intense to articulate) here is this woman who is just so much more than she was ever given credit for her talents?
Here is another version worth checking out. If you are a fan of both ABBA and other styles of good music, you should give this one a try. It's here on YT. Sissel and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir sing Like an Angel Passing Through My Room.
heard her singing this live, less then a moth ago in Sydney, with Sydney Symphony Orchestra - it was even better! [sorry, not bragging ;) ] i was rather surprised with the 2nd part of the concert - thought "it is a shame to listen to one of the greatest living mezzos, singing amplified" - but then, this song was the highlight of the concert
@technocrash09 Yep. Sissel does an exquisite version of this song. She's obviously a high soprano and sings the song in a different key (as opposed to Anne Sofie von Otter and Annifrid Lyngstad - who are bothe mezzo sopranos). All are great, but what can I say? It's a beautiful song!
I have to agree with maxde10 here. I am a HUGE ABBA fan---have been since their very beginning. This song was written with Frida in mind and was meant to appeal to ABBA fans (and it DID). I am also a huge fan of classical music. It's not possible to compare talent here-it's just not. Many songs are re-recorded by artists of different genre. It simply comes down to taste and what genre you prefer. Those who like Sofie would not like her doing Waterloo...and vice-versa.
Brave attempt flanked by Benny Andersson, but the charisma of Frida's unique and recognisable voice is missing. This song is available in many transitional versions in the deluxe format of The Visitors CD and is well worth a listen to as it reveals the genesis of the song. It's called From A Twinkling Star to a Passing Angel. 🕊
@edithpiaffan1 (to name just a few), Frida is well known for singing Waterloo, Chiquitita and Mamma Mia (all of them very exacting songs from the point of view of the voice, no doubt :-))). To compare both voices is like comparing Champagne and Coca-Cola; but of course you can prefer Coca-Cola.
Her voice is a little bit lower than I typically like my female singers to be, part of it could be a bit of age. With that said, she shows great style, talent, and touch. Nicely done.
Also, Anni Frid singt das tausendmal schöner!!!!!
Man sagt, Opernsänger würden jedes moderne Lied massakrieren.
@edithpiaffan1 maxde10 I do not try to diminish anyone's opinion. I respect all of them, although I do not share them at all. If you say you think Frida's version is better, I have nothing to say; but if you say, as seaclouds did, that Frida's voice is much better than Anne-Sofie von Otter's, that is a different story. To compare both voices, you should do it on the basis of a similar repertoire, and this can not be the case. While von Otter is used to sing Haendel, Schubert and Rossini
@maxde10 I hope you will note my comment above. Just for the record, I like Coca-cola AND champagne!. I guess I prefer both as well, depending on the moment. I appreciate your perspective on things. Sounds like you are both educated and patient...two qualities few possess, at least here on YT *lol* It sounds like you have a penchant for cross-over entertainment (as I do). I feel (as a muscian) there will never be "too much" music---the language of the universe.
Anne-Sophie von Otter is one of the best mezzos of the world. To say that Friday's voice is much better than this one is quite ingenous. Try to convince Frida to sing Haendel, and then compare.
a long and careful process, good raw materials (grapes, water, soil ...) and a skillful hand to combine them; coca-cola is made by simply applying the same recipy,
and it tastes exactly the same in Japan, in Argentina or in South África. I agree with you in that there is never enough music, but again if we want to compare voices and, what it is even more important, singing skills; let's do it on the basis of the same repertoire. I am willing to listen to Frida singing Handel, but as I am afraid this will never be possible, I will listen Anne Sofie instead.
No it isn't. Listen to Anne Sofie 's recording where Benny Andersson came out to play with her on the Elvis Costello collaboration, For the Stars. Frida's recording harbors no recording. Her voice was lovely, but the overwrought reverb and kitsch arrangement just wasn't nearly as good.
But Anne Sofie doesn't sound as good as Frida here. I don't know what changed as Anne Sofie's singing and the later recording mentioned are so good. I almost wouldn't even believe she was the same singer heard here.
Outstanding ! No words equal my feeling when listen Ann-Sophie! Deeply thanks
ABBA reunited 40 years later...We are blessed to have them back with new music .Makes life worth living. Thank you Abba .Please don't leave us again..
After hearing Frida sing this....no other comes close ....
lovely song and beautifully song;...... another side of AnneSofie.
Great performance! 👏👏👏

Benny..........one of the greatest ever!
the song of my life!! X
Pascale Hopstaken mine thinking of the passing of my mother. I took care of her to the end.
Pascale Hopstaken mine too
This is a very beautiful lullaby, very much
Frida sang this from her heart , as she parted with Benny, the love of her life...Abba died soon after..
This is a very beautiful lullaby, so very much
I love this just for the fact that it's Benny's group doing this, glad to see that at least one of the four still performs some of the songs.
Thank you for the super song
5*
Like this very much. It makes me sad and longing. Quite cute this song
great!! nice! warm! beautiful!!
Voz espectacular y magnífico acompañamiento... Una delicia.

@HeidiPusskins I wonder who else might be on stage we might know (?)
@HeidiPusskins ....and you know that is Benny on keys, right? He is the composer of this beautiful song 3)

@maxde10 -----BTW, a slight correction is warranted here. Agnetha sings the lead on Chiquitita.

Of the few covers of this song on TH-cam, this one does the least for me.
he can't be better then ABBA.
SIGUE SIENDO TAN SENCILLA Y AMOROSA, COMO CUANDO ANDABA EN LOS TREINTA Y NOS DELEITABA CON SU NACQUI ALL AFFANO
Very poignant and beautiful interpretation...

tragedy only Frida and Sissel can sing this masterpiece
Not bad but nothing like as good as the Abba version, Frida's voice is so much better than this one.
