Abba songs were all about life as it goes by. Love, friendship, pain, heartbreak, the works. No band has ever captured emotions better than Abba. The more I listen to them the more I'm convinced they're the best band to have blesses mankind.

A big part of that is actually their massive success as their first songs were much more generic. However as they grew in size and popularity they had the bargaining power to write whatever songs they wanted. If the publisher didn't like it then they would just pick another instead. Many singers today are really small and are at the mercy of their publishers.

@@MrMarinus18ABBA/Polar Music, since day one did their own thing. They a self contained indie band with their tiny home label, Polar Music.
ABBA had no corporate overlords or puppeteers like all the other major American and British groups that were tied to the corporate record label.
ABBA went around the American-British monopolistic pop/rock establishment.
How ABBA got heard outside of Sweden/Scandinavia:
      1. Eurovision Song Contest (Waterloo)
      2. Low budget music clips sent to TV program directors around the world. Those program directors like what they saw and put ABBA music video clips on TV.
      3. Lots of in studio TV appearances to promote and export their music to the world.
      Boom!!!! Huge grassroots support.
All the other major intl groups had major ties to the American-British monopolistic establishment.
ABBA/Polar Music controlled their regional labels around the world. All creative output and decisions were all within ABBA/Polar Music.
ABBA/Polar Music took on how the pop/rock establishment big record labels and schooled them. No establishment hands in their pockets.
ABBA still owns and controls it all. They own 100% if their song rights. They remain independent.

      @@MrMarinus18No.
ABBA were indie. The rebels who were never owned like all the other big names/groups.
ABBA still own and control it all.
There success was built by grassroots support around the world, not the American-British monopolistic establishment.
What ABBA and their tiny home record label, Polar Music, did was school the entire pop/rock establishment by making it huge without the filters and dictates by the American-British monopolistic establishment.
ABBA has always presented an unwanted contrast for the insecure.

Look at both ABBA girls and their reputation among peers. It is Frida that has always had the stellar reputation among music peers. She started earning her stellar reputation in grade school.
The ABBA fan that pays attention understands why Frida has such a great reputation among peers.
Both these girls entered vocal talent hunts. Frida excelled from childhood to adulthood. Too include National Vocalist of the Year - 1964 and what proved to be her big break break in 1967 by winning National Best Vocalist. It was rare, if Frida did not win. In the 60's is was getting old.
Someday, her full career will be examined and detailed. She was the real deal, since she was in grade school.
Her recognition in the 60's came from singing complex, sophisticated vocal centric genre material in live, on stage and TV environments.
Agnetha got known through a record label -- promoted, marketed singing pop songs. She never had the reputation by that Frida had with Sweden's too tier musicians.
Pre ABBA both girls were nationally known. Only Frida got the live-to-air TV gigs. Frida was a known as a professional working vocalist entertainer.
Agnetha was known as a record label studio pop singer, not an on stage professional working vocalist entertainer.
Agnetha biggest knock against her is she lacks the technical proficiency and lack of stage, live performance.
Agnetha did very few talent hunts after she entered pre teen years. She quit. She understood she did not have the skills to advance in these vocal recital live environments.
Pay attention to each girls technical proficiency.
You notice how good Frida is by what she can do with a note. You also notice what Agnetha can't do, by what she does not do with a note.
Do you know what I mean?
Agnetha does not take and control and shape a note like Frida.
Frida's technical fundamentals are very solid -- and you add her unique sound with that embedded emotion and it is why she has such respect in her industry.

A fact everybody began missing when dark, stark & complex & chilly ABBA songs began appearing in 1981, especially 'The Visitors', 'Soldiers', 'Should I Laugh Or Cry', & this one here. Then there's 1982 with 'Under Attack', 'Cassandra' & 'The Day Before You Came' whose majesties people just too stupid to get in 1982. People never know when they're spoilt.

    • @blabla-rg7ky
      @blabla-rg7ky ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@kyachdistent1301 it's not about being stupid, it's about... well... being spoilt :)
Let's not forget that when ABBA had produced all of these masterpieces at least 50-60 other bands and singers had peaked, as well. The 70s, 80s, and 90s are the Holy Trinity of music, all of the legends have peaked in one of those 3 decades, so being #1 in any top 10 had been hard even for legends like ABBA with so much competition around them. Queen, Elton John, Dire Straits, Madonna, Boney M, The Seekers, the Italo-Disco artists (Savage, KB Caps, Time, London Boys, etc) and countless other artists that I can't remember at the moment... all of these have had hit after hit after hit in the 80s, so ABBA - despite of how legendary they are - have been just one of the many back then. That's why it's been hard to appreciate them at their true value in those years. But now, with the lack of real talent that we've "seen" in the last 2-3 decades, listening to real music (ABBA-style music that is) makes us spot the difference in quality much faster and makes us misjudge the people of those times as being stupid when, in reality, they've just been spoilt, like you said.

In regards to "Kristina', that is their masterpiece.

That is false…both songs are written for the same person. All songs from 1951 to today are written for one person. That person is Deacon the Dancing Queen. Why? You’ll find out soon. Complete story is about John Deacon and John Lennon.

This song wasn't the hit it should have been largely because of a lack of a true Top 40 station in New York (which still had major influence on which songs became hits) largely because by then longtime kingpin WABC was on its last legs as a music station (it would go talk on May 10, 1982) while WNBC had a program director who was known to be conservative (Howard Stern would call him "pig virus" all the way to his death a few years ago). WYNY-FM, which was really adult contemporary was the closest to a Top 40 station at the time this came out in late 1981-early 1982.
