- Happened to be in the area when i got a heads up that the RBMN F9A #270 EX NS F9A 270 or 4270 was going to be delivered to RBMN so I swung by to check it out and get a first glimpse of the magnificent F9 that RBMN had just bought! Thanks for Watching and I hope you Enjoy!

can we acknowledge how much of a legend the RBMN and it's CEO are?

Wow! Thing of beauty. Like the classic cars, the F9 is a locomotive I had in my first model railroad when I was a kid, fifty years ago. I loved trains back then and I still do.
For anyone asking. Yes they purchased one of the b units. It was delivered separately.

I live in middle Georgia south of Macon, and i got to watch these beautiful engines make runs back and forth from Florida to trips up north several times as well as the Steam Locomotives NS had on the line, My Best view was a high speed run northbound headed towards Bronson Yard, one foggy morning along Ga HWY 247, and hearing those 5 chive horns as the train passed the Macon airport , Talking about a chill down your spine, THEY WILL BE MISSED here in the south !!!!
1950's and 60's styling. Very nice.
Got to see these units in action several years ago. They brought the train to Augusta for the Masters. Rolled it right through downtown. It was pulling the NS executive train. What a sight to behold!
Can't wait to see both units #270 F-9A and #276 F-7B hooked together. Both have beautifully matching paint jobs.

Many times I have seen these units on the lurgan branch pulling the business trains. Glad they will be going to good use. Wish they could use them at Jim Thorpe but that is no more apparently.
They are working to return the Lehigh Gorge trains to Jim Thorpe this year.

That is the exact locomotive I run on my 4x3 layout except my locomotives number is 4270... Not 270.

@@JWimpy but that engine used to be the office special engine for the business train. The last time i seen it in NS service was 2018 when i brought a Z train to NS Calumet yard in Chicago. I work for UP.

Great video. So reading their atrticle, it mentions painting the NS white to Tuscan red? I like the idea of keeping the bow wave in tact, but might be a nicer scheme to leave the cream and change the black to Tuscan red to match the cars.

Ethan Hubbard yea it’s sad to see them leave the mainline but I think it’s better for them to be at the RBMN, they are a growing little railroad with a TON of passenger service and a large railfan following, they own a few steam locomotives, 425 as we saw and they also own Reading T1 2102 which is in the process of being restored to operation and they are one of the most popular short line railroads.

Did ns sell the hole train.i heard there not a true f until, they have a gp30 engine init. There going to repainted and use behind 425 and use it on excursion trains.
A&WP 290 they are repainted already. They are a GP38-2 on the inside. They will be mixed freight/passenger

I was actually there on the train when it was delivered. In fact, at 5:26, i can see my whole family on the end of the car right before the dome car

I mean, it sucks how NS sold them away, but luckily they kept the paint scheme and didn't scrap it or anything.

3:20 they better keep that horse logo until they totally repaint the unit, but it looks okay without the NS side lettering

Why are they getting rid of the Fs and what will replace them? Do the units need to be reconditioned and NS doesn't want to make the investment?
Tommy Thomason it’s all about NS saving a buck right now, and they see it more useful to repaint the SOUTHERN heritage unit and use that as the OCS power because they can maintain 1 unit vs 4 and the other time when it’s not on OCS service it can be out making money pulling fright.
@@NSReadingLineRailfan Well, the best thing I can say about it is that it isn't likely the units will be scrapped. I think some of the Chicago and Northwestern "Executive Fs" actually were scrapped. That can't be allowed. Someone would buy such units and preserve them.

I don't know much about trains so is this train a brand new replica of an older train locomotive? It is an awesome looking machine!
Gary Smythe Nope! This was built for the B&O railroad in 1952 passed through some different owners before Norfolk Southern bought them in 2006 for OCS service and they rebuilt them in their Altoona shops and they came out in 2007 and served as the OCS motive power exclusively from 2007-fall of 2019 when NS put them up for sale. NS Took extremely good care of these locomotives, from what I’m told to the point where you could pretty much eat off of the engine blocks, they were the pride of the whole NS locomotive fleet, and they were rebuilt like every winter to keep them up to date with all the modern electronics and technology like Cab Signals and PTC so they could be used at speed on the mainlines pulling their large fleet of passenger cars.

acts2210 not even close! This engine was bought by the RBMN from NS, it was delivered to them still in their NS paint scheme, any day now they will be popping out of the paint booth in a RBMN paint scheme
@@NSReadingLineRailfan seems like a perfectly good engine to repaint why do they have to pull shrink wrap off the Norfolk Southern badge and made me think that the decals was just applied to the engine? The way that shrink wrap was on the horse emblem on the front of the engine and over the name age on both sides and it was like a ceremonial unveiling almost just hard to believe it will and that's going to get repainted in the near future just my view

Which railroad purched the F units and what will they be using them for?
Jacob Ramsey RBMN purchased 270 and 275 and will be using them for their passenger trains, both OCS and Excursion, 271 and 276 were sold to the Arberdeen Carolina and Western, haven’t heard what their plans are for them.

jeffrey mcfadden yes there were a total of 4 except RBMN only purchased an A and B unit, the other 2 are going to a different railroad
@NS Reading Line Railfan ok that explains it.. so I don't think I caught a lot why did they sell these engines in s are they not going to have the executive trains anymore with the or they just going to use regular Freight diesels for from now on? And I don't think ever caught why the numbers on these engines were charged from having a "4" 4270 for example.
They got sold due to PSR, NS sees it is why should they maintain 4 engines when they can maintain 1, so NS has repainted the Southern Heritage unit and will be using that as the OCS power from here on out, also the 4 in 4270 got dropped in the spring of 2019 due to the large growing fleet of AC44C6Ms that was expanding into the 4200 series, so to make room for the rebuilds NS dropped the 4 and renumbered them in the 3 digit numbers.

@@ITrooper089Productions as of right there is no more LGSR. Yes for public passenger excursions to Jim Thorpe from Reading/Port Clinton and yes I would imagine on RBMN office car trains too. To tell you the truth I wouldn't mind seeing those F units pull a decent-sized freight train that is within their capabilities.

So beautiful this covered wagon is. I hope that Reading and Northern paint this locomotive with a paint scheme that's as beautiful and as magnificent as the Norfolk Southern colors that it has now. Hopefully much more beautiful.
