    Awesome video! Would have been cool to join in live, but I guess the time difference wasn’t in my favour, I’m in Australia. Thank you for showing us this, I will have to check it out myself! Hope you get well soon :)

    Great video! Always enjoy watching you play Atari 2600 games! Having Berzerk as part of this DLC is great. I particularly enjoy being able to take it on the go with my Switch now but also play it on my Xbox consoles and PS4. Have a great weekend!

    You probably already know this but Stellar Trek is a port of the older mainframe Trek game that was played on a lot of college campuses back in the day. Atari's Star Raiders and Activision's StarMaster were basically graphical versions of it.

    Will definitely get this DLC on Switch , the early b&w games remind me of when the fair (like the carnival) came to town and their little mobile arcade would have all these Atari b&w games that were long in the tooth but I'd never seen anywhere else before.

      That’s fair, in my opinion the Atari 50 release is the best compilation I’ve ever played and has become one of my favourite games I own.. btw I was born in the 90s so I have no nostalgia for Atari but the love and care with presenting the games as they were back in the day, the documentary footage and scans is truly innovative. It’s like a game museum

    You mentioned playing arcade games at the Main Street Penny Arcade in Disney World. I remember another arcade next to Space Mountain. There was a series of early sit down racing games hooked up to a huge display board above them. If multiple people played together, the board would track each colored cars progress until there was a winner.

    I think the volume of the interviews seemed a bit low while playing the games, the volume was fine. I also think they should introduce another background tune, there’s a part where it sounds like dead air. All in all, I ended up getting the 2 DLC pack, so look forward to the next one.

    Atari still needs to get the rights to Battlezone back. That way we can have the arcade version on this and the 2600 version. They also need to stop giving us the 2600 version of Desert Falcon and start giving us the 7800 version. If you like Desert Falcon on the 2600, but never played the 7800 version, you don't know what you are missing.

    • @VirutaFaiter

      I think Desert Falcon for 2600 was good and not too far from the 7800 or XL versions but not including Battlezone here is a big disappointment

    Great playthrough Jon. Just watched it this morning (Sunday) with a nice cup of coffee and some fancy biscuits. Just a heads up for the community that Atari appear to be doing their usual nickel and dime'n by splitting out the PS4 and PS5 DLC. If you buy the DLC packs separately or buy the bundle on PS4, you only get the PS4 DLC. However if you purchase the Atari 50: Expanded Edition DLC Bundle on your PS5, you get both the PS4 & PS5 DLC. This is important to me as I have it digitally on my PS4 Pro and physically on my PS5. Just thought it worth sharing. I really don't know why Atari do this? I bought all the Re-Charged titles on my Xbox One/Series S consoles because you get both versions by default and don't need to pay twice. For me, this is a bad look for Atari and not very pro-consumer. Anyways, keep up the awesome work!

    • @GenXGrownUp

    I was expecting more, 19 games but almost a third of them are variants. The price is ok, but I was hoping for more of the gems of atari that apparently no one can figure out who owns them now. I own this and the earlier Atari PC collection on Steam and some of these were already released on the earlier Atari game you cannot get anymore.

      In the old days. Homing torpedoes are the weapon of choice in modern times. Either launched from the destroyer's own torpedo tubes or more likely if the day ever came (a sub hasn't been sunk in combat since WWII), dropped from the destroyer's own helicopters.

    • @LeoA2600
      @LeoA2600 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@GenXGrownUp I'd be happy to share my thoughts based off the couple of hours that I've spent playing it so far (and mostly enjoying it, even though I do feel like it has multiple issues).
      5200 Berzerk's broken audio is the #1 issue of course. The rest are happily more minor things (I like to call them quibbles). Keep in mind that I've barely touched the 2600 side of the DLC (although Berzerk and Berzerk V.E. seem fine).
      We'll start with a compilation issue instead of an emulation issue for our second problem. The new timeline goes to 100% completion the moment that it's first opened. In your video for instance, all the icons already have a white background. If you recall back when Atari 50 was new, they're supposed to be black until you look at the scan/picture/video and then turn into a white background to denote that you've looked at it. If you had backed out to where you select different timelines, you'd see it marked as 100% viewed even though you didn't go through and watch every video and such.
      Issue #3 is how Super Bug (and Fire Truck from the original lineup) have their steering implemented. Compare it to Sprint 8 on Atari 50 (all three overhead arcade racers used a very similar free spinning wheel) and I suspect that you'll agree that the clever setup Digital Eclipse implemented for Sprint 8 is far better suited to the job than how Super Bug and Fire Truck are setup here (Super Bug and Fire Truck by the way control just like Sprint 8 does on Atari 50 when they're played on Atari Flashback Classics/Atari Vault from Code Mystics).
      For issue #4, why is the d-pad locked out by default for Berzerk (arcade and 5200) and Frenzy? While it's easily rectified in the controller mapping screen for each game, I don't recall Atari 50 ever forcing me to pick one kind of input over the other before for anything else. I highly recommend switching these over to the d-pad.
      And for a possible issue #5, Super Bug's yellow car overlay is to the best of my knowledge incorrect. It's a yellow circle in the several cabinets that I've been able to play on, it's a circle on the Code Mystics collections, and it's even a circle in one of the pictures of the cabinet on the original advertisement flyer in the timeline gallery for the DLC. Yet here it's presented like it's a children's drawing of the sun. Is that perhaps actually original to some Super Bug cabinets or is it a mistake here (albeit a super trivial one)?
      Lastly, I don't consider it an issue but I feel like it's a missed opportunity to not allow a USB mouse in Atari 50 on console platforms for games like Missile Command. It's fully supported on Atari 50 on PC (unsure about the VCS), but not on the consoles. Yet Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo have all fully opened the door to that accessory being used in games on their current platforms (including the last-gen PS4 and XB1). Why lock that away from the console players when it's already implemented here?

    • @LeoA2600
      @LeoA2600 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To counter my series of nitpicks, arcade Berzerk and Frenzy appear to be presented in good shape here after several credits with each. And I'm pleased that Red Baron retains the high score now and that the default stick sensitivity feels great.
      On the older Digital Eclipse collections and on the Code Mystics collections, the high score for Red Baron would erase itself after several seconds when you reopened Red Baron from the game select menu. It was a minor bug (and a bizarre bug; score is retained but then is wiped clear), but it was annoying for a game that's all about getting high scores.
      And there's no need to desensitize the analog stick on Atari 50 for Red Baron. While fully fixable in the options, the default setting was absolutely unplayable on Atari Vault/Atari Flashback Classics in my opinion. Extremely twitchy and no ability to be precise with your inputs. I feel those earlier collection issues for Red Baron are part of the reason why Red Baron doesn't get the love that I feel it deserves.

      are they acyually issues or nitpicks?

    • @LeoA2600
      @LeoA2600 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@TobeyStarburst Mostly nitpicks. Only true bugs so far that I've discovered have been the timeline automatically going to 100% completion (which obviously is super trivial, but still counts) and 5200 Berzerk's audio issues. That said, I hope that they massage a few other things here with a future patch.

      @@literallyunderrated unfortunately that’s not true. Atari didn’t own the rights to Berserk and Frenzy until after the release of the base game. I’m not sure about the other games but I’m fine paying for the extra content.
