On this compilation, he never passes after contact with his left hand, and all offloads are with left arm. HIs tackles are often done with his shoulder only, which is not allowed in Rugby XV. To me it is not a superplayer. Look for "Picamoles tribute", 1st result, and tell me honestly if he's average compared to Read...
In 2011 Read has been picked in nearly every international XV at No.8. If Europe don't rate him - sweet as. No.8s and No. 12s are not similar in the Southern Hemisphere in terms of skill, and size. SBW is a bit of a freak for his size and that he plays as a back, but it would have been difficult at this stage of his career to convert to a loose forward. I've seen Picamoles plenty. I watch all the top nations games - year in and year out.
All this talk about Picamoles and Read being the top No.8s in the world.. I think you are forgetting Sergio Parisse. When Italy win it is more often than not because he carries that team. (I am not Italian either)
Comparison: because a 12 and a 8 are similar in their game and physical aspect Rugby fan: I am 26, and I am in rugby "world" since the age of 6. Here, we finally have 2 points of view, that we call "chauvin" in France, which means being proud of your contry/region, and you almost see nothing but your own star players. What's the problem with always using the same hand for after tackle passes? Do they work? Yes! Have they meant that the team could go forwards and sometimes score? Yes! A donkey compared to Picamoles? Please they don't even play the same position SBW plays center so tries to go through the defence and create opportunities for his team. No way are 50% of his tackles outlawed he's one of the people who takes the most care in tackling because he knows he can't do the same as in league. Uncomparable
This is one of the stupidest comments I've seen on rugby union on youtube and that's saying something. This was SBW's first season of playing professional rugby. His offloads are now the stuff of legends and he's refined his tackling technique. Why don't you compare Picamoles - the no.8 - to someone like Kieran Read who also plays 8? Read makes Picamoles look average 9 times out of 10.
