I really enjoy watching your tutorial on this heart square,. This is the first time in actually seen this kind of chart symbols,... I always learn other crochet charts before,. But never learn this kind of chart,... Its pretty neat ,. I always was confused on learning how to read these kinds of charts,. I have all kinds of book pattern on doilies,. But I was scare to know how they were read.😬🤦😖 But now just you going step by step,. It looks easy now😁😁😁😊👍 Thanks to you,. You save my day... Your awesome!! Thumbs Up for a great tutorial.... ♥️🥰😁😊👍 Your the best teacher....
When i started to teach myself how to crochet, i bought a Japanese book for pineapple dollys, and it was onely charts, so i find reading a chart much easier, and i love it ! Gosh that was 25 years ago !!!! 💐thank you for doing the chart.
Oh Sandra! I am over the moon excited that I could actually learn to follow a crochet chart. I love knitting charts but have never ever been able to manage crochet charts...until now. I can't believe I finished an entire crocheted square simply by following your teaching and the chart. Thank you so much!
Interesting indeed. I’m left-handed & there are 2 directions I didn’t quite understand. 1st: What difference would it make regarding where one starts the chart & whether clockwise or ante-clockwise is followed? Wouldn’t we follow in the same direction regardless? And 2nd this question too: @7:40+/- I wondered…. How can one decipher whether we’re to crochet into the next stitch either into the space or into the top of the next stitch? (Maybe this is clearer on the legend of the chart?) I should’ve paid closer attention to this. But honestly, as a visual learner & “South Paw” Leftie, following charts seems to me, to be far more appealing than reading patterns. When I read a pattern, it seems I always think I’ve only crocheted a line one time, when in fact, I’ve done it twice . I’m a genius at ripping out, the work I’ve already completed ☑️. Interestingly, I wasn’t even aware there was such a crochet aide as Charts & I’ve been crocheting for 30 years! Well done indeed…thanks 🙏🏼 ever so much.
Hi Sandra! I'm joining your CAL. It is always the borders of blankets that get me excited and I have to say the border for this blanket is absolutely beautiful. I am mostly a visual learner and just recently started trying to crochet using written patterns. I conquered most of what I tried. Now I'm going to try following your graphs. You make it look easy! I guess we will see :) Thanks for sharing your beautiful patterns and taking the time to teach this lovely craft. Lisa from USA
I downloaded the charge I can't wait to get started thank you so much honey I really really appreciate it love your Channel take a look at mine if you get a chance it's small and I'm old it is fun for me LOL
Hi Sandra I would love to see some more video tutorials of all the squares available. I love to follow along with videos. Also Why is the heart pattern included in the standard pattern. Is it just a bonus because I don't see it on the assembly chart. So Its a little confusing. Thank you for the video about joining and all the things that you have done for this blanket. I cant wait to get started
Thankyou. This is so helpful. I’m new to crochet but love your work so trying to do a few squares from natures walk in hope of doing the blanket. My heart holes are so big compared to yours. What am I doing wrong? Using Sirdar snuggly dk with 4mm hook.
Hello, I am an avid knitter but crocheted first many years ago. Is there another video that moves a little slower?? I understand the terms but I have not ever used a chart for crochet and I am finding that you are moving extremely fast for someone who never has crochet from a chart. I bought the yarn and I am finding this isn’t going to work for me unless I can find someone who moves a little slower for us newbies. So frustrating. I must add this yarn that the pattern called for is terrible to pull out. So I have to add that I have been wrestling with this and I found that reading the written instructions helped me better for right now instead of watching the video. I am rusty with crochet and although it was my first love, It has been years since I have done it, so to try to watch what I am doing plus watch the video was too hard. But I am getting it. The instructions are very well written I have to say. Sorry for my crankiness earlier, I was very frustrated. 😘
Hi Sandra, thanks so much your these helpful videos. Can I say it would be helpful if you could state the stitch count we should have on the last round, as I freaked out when I counted only 31, but then went back to your other info on the CAL where you explained that a chain stitch from each corner counts towards the total stitch count. I thought I'd missed some stitches, but thankfully I just hadn't counted in those corner chains!! Thanks, Melanie.
Thank you so much! Yes absolutely, that's why all the stitch count information is given on the 'Using this Pattern' page, along with all the other information you need to follow the written pattern/chart correctly. This video isn't intended as a replacement to the pattern. I'll be including the same info with all the subsequent parts as well, so it will be nice and easy for everyone.
Thank you so much I loved making the square. I just wish I purchased the Sheepjes wool instead of the Stylecraft Bellisimo as it splits all the time and makes crocheting not very pleasant. I might still change as Sheepjes is so much nicer to work with. :(
Hello and Happy New Year from the USA. I’ve just started my Afgahn love this pattern by the way. I purchased the Scheepjes Stone Washed - Open Fields and am not sure which block goes with ea color. More specifically which blocks require 4 instead of 3 balls?
Can I ask what website, app or software you use to create your own crochet pattern graphs, I’m looking to create my own but don’t know which I should use. I also really enjoyed making this blanket for Christmas in festive colours❤️
I actually create my own, just using the drawing tools in Keynote (the Mac version of PowerPoint). I never found anything that did a very good job so ending up just doing my own thing. ❤️
I am loving this, I am already learning so much. Just wondering, how do you finish off? There are so many methods. Directions say slip st in chain, but mine never appear as tidy as yours. Any tips?
Oh thank you so much! I'm not sure I do anything particularly special to finish, just a slip stitch into the starting chain, then I cut the yarn and pull the end through, then just take it to the back of the work by threading back into the same chain I made the slip stitch into and giving a little tug to tighten. If you want a really neat finish you can try an 'Invisible finish': www.cherryheartcrochet.co.uk/2014/05/invisible-finish.html
Well the CAL doesn't start for another week yet, so there is still plenty of time. I'm sure your pack won't be too long but you can always contact Black Sheep Wools if you want more information. ❤️
Thank you for this tutorial on reading crochet charts. It was very clear, concise and helpful.
Thank you so much that’s kind of you to say. So glad it was useful!
Brilliant thank you so helpful wish all videos were this helpful ❤

I’ve been crocheting for ages, but I found that amazingly helpful! Thank you so much. I have my hook and yarn, and am ready to CAL!
Oh yay, I'm pleased! Thank you so much, I hope you enjoy the CAL ❤️
Really helpful thank you. I've always been afraid of charts but will definitely be more encouraged to use them!
Carol Phelps oh good, I’m so glad! Yes I agree they look a bit overwhelming to start, but once you can start to ‘see’ them, it’s great. ☺️

Could you please make tutorials for the rest of the squares and the border? It's my first time crocheting and this video was extremely helpful!
Oh that’s really helpful thank you x 😊
Love watching this, it would be great to see a written pattern tutorial as sometimes I get very confused, so i refer back to the picture chart.
Thank you so much! I hadn't thought of the idea of doing a video for that before, it's an interesting though, I think it could be quite useful!
I love it. Thank you.
Thank you!
Great tutorial😍👏🏻
I love the border. Do you have video tutorial or chart for that?

Hi Sandra, did you use the pebble haze DK weight , if so, which colours did you use

Oh no, sorry to hear you didn't get on with the Bellisima! I do hope you like the Scheepjes wool more though.
