Hey Joel, I think I might understand where your coming from. My mom had to put my grandma on hospice, had to sign a DNR and everything like that. She had heart disease and she was diabetic. I don't fully know how she passed away they never really told me to this day. I'm only 13, she died in 2020 which would've made me only 11. It was the hardest thing ever for me. Me and my grandma were so close and whenever she got sent to the hospital the first time we found her in her assisted living facility she wasn't breathing good and she just didn't look good. She was also deaf so she couldn't just go call someone she would have to text them and do all that. But it was so hard to watch her sit there and just wait for her to pass away, I don't think about her that much anymore but this video reminded me of her and I'm thankful for that and your comment helped me remember her even more so thank you, I hope you feel better soon Joel.

@@matthewpattison8611 Chimpanzees are extremely amazing but extremely dangerous. That is why the poor chimpanzee used in this tv show is likely stuck in a cage somewhere, because they become unmanageable at about the age of five. Sanctuaries do not even allow direct physical contact between humans and chimpanzees. A chimpanzee can kill a human with ease, even without meaning to. Chimpanzees have been known to rip off faces, genitalia, fingers, hands and feet. It is nothing against them, just that no matter how sweet they are normally, eventually they snap. They are just so strong, and when they snap, it is almost impossible to stop an attack. A human is very weak in comparison to a chimpanzee, even a young or out of shape one. If one knows anything about chimpanzees, they know never to be within reaching distance of them. I love chimpanzees, but they are not what they are portrayed as on tv shows. A wild chimpanzee does not normally bother humans, although they are dangerous to infants and young children. However, a captive chimpanzee is always psychologically damaged to some degree.

If I was a doctor devoted to saving lives, I would be focused on saving lives and not what a bunch of millionaires with zero medical credentials want. Nima, the chimpanzee, was stolen from a lab that was testing on her which is incredibly cruel. If I were in their position? I'd do the exact same thing, even if I lost my license. I could live with myself knowing I tried, and succeeded, to use a heart that would've been discarded because it wasn't good enough on a beautiful, intelligent animal that deserves a second chance at a better life.
I would also gladly donate my organs to animals, if they would have them and could use them.

Agreed, yes there is a good cause behind it but the monkey was the property of a lab testing facility. It doesn't matter how they were treating the monkey, they owned it. It was stolen and hence the hospital could get sued, which would put the hospital under. And because of this they aren't just risking their own jobs, they are risking the jobs of hundreds if not thousands of people. They are risking thousands of lives from people who won't have that hospital to go to, and they need to go to one further away, or the other hospitals around the area are too full.
Saving 1 chimp isn't worth putting hundreds at risk from the hospital no longer being operational.

This is a very grey arguement
On one hand the procedure would save a monkey and give the boy his wish
On the other hand the procedure could go completely lopsided causing the very potential death of the chimp which could leas to a zoo v hospital sue case that would give bad attention and put the hospital under and the heart would eventually die and would leave the boys wish unfulfilled and the procedure alone is experimental therefore there is no way to say it will work and if it goes lopsided then the attempt alone will do the same that the zoo v hospital thing that i mentioned only that this time it would majorly affect the reputation (not saying the zoo v hospital wouldn’t but this would hit harder) and they would also get in major trouble from the board of health which would put the hospital at an even lower stand because people would see the lower standing with the board the hospital would have
I agree, there are both pros and cons and each are valid, but the impact of the cons would far outweigh the impact of the pros therefore making the procedure both highly risky and high chance of affecting their reputation in a severe manner

i went and watched the full episode cause i also wanted to know. they proceed with the surgery and the woman who wanted to stop them (millicent i think her name is), located which lab the chimp was stolen from and two representatives come from there to the hospital to collect the chimp after the surgery ends, alex and jesse do not want to return the chimp as she will go through cruel experiments, so they fake the chimp's death on the surgery table. after the reps and millicent leave the viewing room, the reps threaten legal action since the chimp was stolen, the surgeons continue the surgery and it's a success. they move the chimp back to the sanctuary and colin's father comes to see her and gives her colin's book. alex and jesse did get in huge trouble after millicent tells them the lab wants nima's body, but they obviously cant produce it, so millicent finds out they lied about her dying on the table. we dont see what happens afterwards though with the legal trouble and the lab.

I agree that it's unethical to experiment on animals but not only was this not for experimentation purposes, what you're saying is also dangerously close to PETA's "We gave them the gift of euthanasia and it was the best gift they ever recieved" levels of f**ked up.
