In this video, we're going to be breaking down an awesome neo-soul chord progression. We're going to learn some cool voicings and put them together in a progression which you can spend hours playing around with!
In the example I did at the end, I used many voicings from my series 'Chord of the Month' - check it out here: bit.ly/ChordPla...

So simple and yet so beautiful 😍 Thanks for transcribing and showcasing it to us!
Fabulous! More of these juicy voicings, and neo soul please. Lovely!😷👍😷

Awesome video Simon! More Robert G please!!
Yeeey. Another lesson! 💕 Thank youuuu.
No worries - my pleasure! :)
I love this! I’d like to ask for a request. I’m sure you’ve got you’re own plans for what lessons you want to do. If you like the idea I’d love to see a video breaking down and explaining what the piano is doing on John Coltrane’s After The Rain.
There's a really nice video of Emily Bear and Jesus Molina going absolutely nuts on this progression. Thank you so much for posting this tutorial!
Hell yeah that's such an awesome duet! :D
They are both incredible

Simon can do everything well. What is up Simon!
Excellent choice of material Simon. Would you fancy doing something on Moonchild? There's plenty to go at.
Great suggestion! :)
@@Piano_Pig Are you a fan? How about "Cure"? Awesome sequence. Have you seen the version they did for Spectrasonics? The intro sequence is divine. th-cam.com/video/r9lheV7RWG8/w-d-xo.html

What software do you use for your videos? If you don't mind me asking.
Nice. In which key are we ?
Didier Linsen c min
@@j_fitz Interesting. I add a root a fourth below for the first three chords. That gives Cmin11 Dmin11 Em11 Cmaj13 Fm11
i 2passing chords V/iv iv
Golden lady Glasper
This gave me carpal tunnel
What voices are used on the keyboard
how does one even begin understanding how to construct these kind of chords naturally?
^^
fooling around with chords that dont have a connection function wise but just sound nice and interesting should be a nice way to start
playing and practicing piano for like 20 years
all the m7b13 are just fourth voicings
the maj13 one is also sort of fourths (A-D-G and B-E)
the fm11 is a cluster chord with the 9th on the top as melody
Creativity and talent
I would say the first chord is Ebadd2/G. Not really functioning as a minor chord?
Nah fam
does your subscription website provide courses to learn to play soulful chords like this ?
I have an entire course teaching and analysing 5 neo-soul chord progressions which you'll get a lot of value from if you enjoyed this video!
Which key is the song played on?
why did you chose to improvise in Cmin? what's the reasoning behind that?
I had the same question, but when spelling out all the notes in the chords you'll notice that they mostly live in the C Aeolian/ C minor scale (C, D, Eb, (E), F, G, Ab, (A) Bb, (B)). The A, B, and E natural in this case are outside the mode but are probably chromatic passing notes which I think makes this more of a C min / F min Bebop scale, or maybe F Dorian with a major /minor third, a natural 7 + b7, and a tritone?? ... a little beyond my understanding and perhaps not important, but someone else that knows more about jazz theory/harmony will probably school me here. ;)
Why aren’t the first chords Eb9/G, F9/A, G9/B?
I think so too.
Eb(add2)onG
F(add2)onA
G(add2)onB
You're right they are all slash chords
That chick corea sound its fantastic hi from México

pianopig discord anyone?
Does anyone know what keyboard Simon is using?
It's a Nord Stage 2 HA88 :)
idk id call the first chord a eb sus2 over the third
It's "awww yeah" not "aaaah yeah"
