I have a trip coming up in December, going to Germany for 12 days and want to make a few cinematic videos out of it. Would you bring a gimbal or a cage like the Brandon li with the handles to capture footage? I was looking at getting the 360 flow pro but wouldn’t be able to use an SSD or a ND filter with that. I know technically they’re different tools for different jobs, but what are your thoughts? Bring both?
Thanks, Connor! If you’re looking for a more compact setup for travel shots, you might want to check out SmallRig’s new cage for the iPhone 16 Pro/Pro Max (if that’s the model you have). It also comes with a case that fits into the cage. For quick, spontaneous shoots, you can use just the case with a grip, and it works well with the DJI OM 6 gimbal. Quick question…I’ve noticed that in several other Log footage tutorials, many people are saying that you want to always put the color grading ABOVE the LUT conversion in FCP (so that the LUT conversion is always at the bottom in the inspector area). I notice you had it the opposite way where the top level was the LUT conversion and your grading was below that. Can you help me understand the pros and cons of both methods? Thank you
Thanks so much! I'm glad you found the tips helpful. Great question about the LUT and color grading workflow in FCP. Both methods work, but they have different effects on your footage. LUT on top: The way I did it (LUT conversion on top, grading below) applies the LUT first, converting your Log footage into a more standard color space. Then, any adjustments you make after that affect the image that’s already been normalized, giving you more predictable results when tweaking exposure, contrast, or color. Grading on top: When you apply grading first and then the LUT, you're making changes to the raw Log footage, which can give you more control over the image before it’s converted. This might give you more flexibility with color, but it can also lead to unexpected results, since the LUT will apply its transformation afterward, possibly altering the look you're trying to achieve. Ultimately, it comes down to preference and the look you're going for. I recommend trying both ways to see which works best for your style and the specific project. Hope this helps! Yes the image quality is the same with no noticeable difference. I think its worth upgrading anything older than the 15, as shooting in LOG makes the biggest difference :)

How do you get your footage onto your computer? I tried Image capture and air drop and a 4 minute clip filmed in cinematic mode takes over 10 minutes to transfer and sometimes longer.

When I film normal video mode it’s fast, but i film cooking segments in 4K “cinematic mode” and those clips are 5+ minutes long and those take 20+ minutes to transfer with image capture.

Only 15/16 pro max and higher are capable of shooting Apple ProRes but you can still achieve great results with iPhones below, it comes down to knowing how to use your phones camera :)
I noticed that you are not taking advantage of the amazing HDR capability of your iPhone, instead you are using the old Rec.709 color space. I am curious why?

You can use a 3.1 usb-c cable and transfer the footage via image capture app :)
