      I think that neil finds it refreshing to hear some of the ways Chuck relates the tried and true science to Hollywood. But yeah, sometimes he is frustrated how either the educational system, or Chuck himself, has impeded his scientific growth. Sometimes you just have to take a break from complicated life to reset and return to refreshed to explore further. Sometimes a fresh look at something can be profitable and invaluable.

      I am a musician also, studied classical harmony as a music major. There is so much physics around the harmonic overtone series that we depend upon for our brand of music, i.e., Western European harmony (diatonic tones). Eastern Asian harmony (micro tones) is way different. Our "ear" is conditioned to standard orchestral "tuning" (e.g. the 440 A) and most of our "pop" music is steeped in diatonic piano based harmony. Yes there are hybrid scales used in some pop music but very rare and found mostly in American blues; the bent third and seventh of the scale producing a micro tone "blues" note effect on guitar and other instruments including voice.

      hey guys next year I am finishing school and I plan going in a music university and gradually specify in composition, but I also love physics and honestly I do not know what I will choose

    • @Underwhelmed
      @Underwhelmed 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sacalius_papalagius choose the one you love the most. I don’t know how hard music compared to physics is but physics will always be hard. If you’re afraid from that, loving it will make that easier. If you love physics (and decided what branch of physics you’ll major in), then I’d say go with physics.

    • @CaptPhiI
      @CaptPhiI 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sacalius_papalagius I'm graduating Grad school soon as a Masters in music composition student, and I'm actually currently thinking about how I can relate my knowledge of harmonics (and overtones, etc.) as humans understand music to this greater understanding of wave patterns in the universe. In my experience there is overlap with everything. Regardless of what you choose, I think there will always be the option to incorporate the other (i.e. Majoring in physics and incorporating it into music by creating a new instrument or something OR Majoring in music composition and incorporating the physics of harmonics into your music [like I'm interested in]).

      Sanme query! Is it out?

    • @theduder2617
      @theduder2617 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fox and Nat-Geo absolutely refuse to acknowledge that question in any way what so ever. You won't even get a response.
      The ONLY comment they have made was in February.
      "Fox and National Geographic are committed to finding an air date for ‘Cosmos. There will be no further comment."
      And there hasn't been. Probably won't be either.
      There is a chance no matter how small, that episodes are being recorded at this moment. Unlikely, but possible.
      Since even Neil himself refuses to even mention the show anymore, it a safe assumption that is could have been stopped all together.
      It is now time to relentlessly ask Seth about an air date. After all, he is in a position to know EXACTLY what's going on.
      I say that because it is clear Neil either will not, or can not speak about it in any way what so ever.
      He used to speak about the show a LOT. Until the lies that is.
      Below is simply my opinion based on the recent events which involved blatant lies.
      ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      Probably lost faith in humanity due to all of the mindless who could not wait to jump into the canoe of hate based on NO factual data what so ever.
      Everyone simply sided with the lies merely because "a female said it".
      Their mindset was "why would a woman lie about that?" FREE MONEY is exactly why.
      It angered me, so I assume he was not happy about it either. Shoot, the mouth breathers are still bringing up those lies as if they were ever true to begin with.
      I'm just happy he still does StarTalk.
      I wouldn't have blamed him for cutting ties with the public since most of public can be rather intentionally uneducated.

    • @jeffs6090
      @jeffs6090 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@theduder2617 - I can agree with all that. I will try to ask Seth through whatever means I can find, his Twitter etc, or look to see if he's mentioned it anywhere.
      All the episodes were done and ready for air this past spring. I'm assuming at this point it would air this fall or maybe this coming spring.

    4 genius Chuck moments
    1. The speed of light is the pre-programmed limit of our simulated universe to stop people travelling to a place faster than it can be graphically rendered around them.
    2. The Earth is just a massive generational space-ship, whose inhabitants get no choice about being born on it, which is ethically equivalent to signing up your future descendants to a generational space journey.
    3. "We think, therefore you (the universe) are" : humans exist and think, which allows the universe to be aware of its existence. Without humans, the universe does not have consciousness (as far as we know)
    4. Insectoid aliens are smart enough to build the human equivalent of a bug zapper.

      Its a necessity because university science , tech develop those sciences , tech which are usually theoretical or in early stages which cant be predict where will they go if they are not controlled or restricted . I disagree, just a bit, because a lot of science knowledge today was derived from accidents or from scientist discovering one thing while studying another. though i will admit that restrictions and budgets can force a scientist to focus, then again it can also force a scientist to put out incomplete or even wrong data that if they had the time they could have discovered on their own.

      @@Q_QQ_Q To me checks and budgets give scientist far more incentive to fudge the data, sense now their livelihood and money for their research is tied to what their results are and how fast they can get them. Though i would say that for some, if not most, scientist a healthy competitive environment can also inspire great innovation

    One year late to the party... on the question about VR and scale of the universe i recommend to buy an Oculus Rift Headset and both the games Elite Dangerous and SpaceEngine.
    The first has a 1:1 rapresentation of the Milky Way that you can explore as you please with spaceships, while the second is a procedural simulation of the known universe. Both support VR which makes them incredible experiences for less than 500$ total (assuming you have a decent PC)
