On the agitators thing, I agree. When I play it feels like a week after they pop up, the agitator just leaves, and doesn't start anything. Maybe after you keep them around they push for something, but beyond that they kind of die out.
Dominion is now reserved for the colonies, as the step before full independence. The full line is Chartered Company ---> Colony ---> Dominion. This models the historical model for the British Empire where colonies moved to become dominons to secure full internal self-goverment with the British crown having a minor executive role as Governors-General. The other line is protectorate, puppet and vassal which is based on the subjected country starting out as a fully-independent, non-colonial territory before becoming a subject of another power.
1:12 "In 1.8, two new subject types have been added, and the existing ones reconfigured into three separate “tracks”. Dominions now belong to a different track than puppets, and all tracks have two steps. Rather than needing to promote from a puppet to a dominion to a protectorate, puppets now directly promote to Protectorate." -Dev Diary #134
I actually thinking removing the Dominion subject type from the Protectorate progression makes a lot of sense. A puppet and a protectorate are on paper sovereign states that are (forcibly) aligned with your interest. A Dominion and colony are extensions of your realm. There's no beating around the bush or lip service to the state being independent. A dominion is a part of your nation, it just has much more local autonomy and self-governance.
I really enjoy your suboptimal, half historical, half experimental gameplay! Its so facetted and makes the most out of the otherwise quite straight forward gameplay loop - Keep it up!
IRL: Austria betrays the holy alliance over crimean war, often called WW0, for various diplomatic and strategi reasons. This game: Russia betrays the holy alliance because _gib Krakow lol_
Brother you did not just have me watching for one hour expecting an anarchist Russia playthrough only for you to play a historical game and smash the anarchist uprising at the very end.
Hey OPB! Great video, hopefully we get soon some video tutorials with insight of the process of modding in Vicky 3 from you for us interested in getting into it!
While I think the trail of tears and the indian removal act are protrayed relatively well, the mistake is that they are portrayed as too inevitable. A lot of the war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Indian Removal and Trail of Tears was not inevitable as the game makes it out. Jackson could have been stopped, and the Removal Act barely passed. A world where a treaty is actually respected during the Indian Wars OR the Indian Removal Act doesn't pass or gets repealed is not impossible. That combined with the fact that native peoples are entirely passive and do not participate and never participate in global affairs further incentivizes colonization. There should be more paths for the US than "pray for a pacifist agitator in a major IG" to get through "No Colonial Affairs" to avoid the Trail of Tears.
In my game as Austria I got Egypt, Greece, Tripolitania, and the Ottomans as protectorates and conquered Bosnia for like 60 infamy and it was so funny to just consume the whole middle east in one war.
Agitators really only matter in terms of pushing very specific movements, but really only when they already exist. They will only start movements for stuff like feminism and nihilism in my experience.
forgive me if I'm wrong but can't you give Wallachia to Moldova or vice versa if they're both your subjects and they'll automatically form Romania as a puppet?
I genuinely have no idea why Russia always take such an interest in latin America this game. No matter the patch it seems you'll be playing and then randomly find out one of the central America break aways or new Grenada or something is in their powerblock or customs union in earlier patches. It is the weirdest thing ever.
Yeah, I saw a war where America was trying to puppet Venezuela in 1846 and Russia joined against them. I was Austria, allied to Russia, and Venezuela was willing to become my puppet in exchange for my help so America helped me recreate Klein-Venedig
Not sure if it's a thing in game, as I don't play, only watch you for fun... But I'd like to see you form an independent Poland as a challenge, if only for the irony of someone German help the Poles out lol 😜
i think there is probably a really good conversation to be had about turning genocide into a video game mechanic so often as we see with pdox titles. sadly there is no way that the audience that paradox has cultivated is both willing and able to have that conversation.
I had an US campaign after you showed the immigration bug in 1.8 At one point, I had almost every faction inside the Democratic party. Ranging from slavers to liberal intelligentsia. To the point that i had a - 113 political cohesion. Meaning that would always have 0 legitimacy, no matter what I did. And even at the lowest taxes. I waited for another election, but that coalition persisted. And it made me quit the game in absolute disgust.
I'd love to hear how to succesfully abdicate in this new patch. I've tried to play around the political movement mechanics but I just can't get it work. It would be nice to see how it can be done or is it practically impossible now.

51:23 Firebombing Walmarts, I really did not expect that phrase being mentioned here XD

Loving all the content recently! Keep it going
My biggest issue in 1.8 is getting labor or socialist movements to spawn or gain traction.
I think I'm keeping the SOL too high :/
I recorded part 2 of this today (to be released tomorrow) in which I desperately tried to get the labour/socialist movements going in this save!)
Hello my favourite Bavarian hope alls well. Thanks for making the vid for us to view!

There is now a separate colonial and puppet tree. Dominian is now a step above colony, and the route to independence is now 2 upgrades instead of 3.
As an anarchist myself it will be very interesting to see how anarchism is portrayed in Vic 3!
Why are you a anarchist? And Whats the definition of anarchism in your view
I think the game has the laws to portray Anarcho-Communism/Syndicalism atleast somewhat accurately, not so sure about other currents.
Agitators really only matter in terms of pushing very specific movements, but really only when they already exist. They will only start movements for stuff like feminism and nihilism in my experience.
The Russia journals were free 1.8 content
