Chinese and Indian products have a distinct perception in Africa, shaped by various factors such as historical ties, product quality, and marketing strategies. While both countries have made significant inroads into the African market, their products are often viewed differently by African consumers.
    Chinese Products in Africa:
Chinese products are widely available across Africa, ranging from electronics and household appliances to textiles and construction materials. Their affordability and accessibility have made them a popular choice among many African consumers. However, Chinese products have also faced criticism for perceived quality issues and concerns about labor practices.
Perceived Quality: Chinese products are often seen as less durable and more prone to breakdowns compared to products from other countries. This perception is partly due to instances of low-quality Chinese products flooding the market. However, Chinese manufacturers have been making efforts to improve quality standards and enhance brand reputation.
    Indian Products in Africa:
Indian products, while not as ubiquitous as Chinese goods, have a more positive reputation in Africa. They are generally perceived as being of higher quality and durability, often associated with craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Quality Perception: Indian products often benefit from a perception of higher quality materials and stricter quality control measures. This reputation stems from India's strong manufacturing sector and its emphasis on quality assurance.
Brand Reputation: Indian brands have a longer history of engagement in Africa, fostering trust and familiarity among African consumers. Indian companies have invested in building relationships with local distributors and partners, contributing to a positive brand image.
Cultural Affinity: The cultural ties between India and Africa extend beyond trade, influencing consumer perceptions. Shared historical experiences and cultural similarities have created a sense of connection that enhances the appeal of Indian products.
    Comparative Standpoint:
In a comparative analysis, Indian products generally hold an edge in terms of perceived quality and brand reputation compared to Chinese products in Africa. While Chinese products have gained widespread market share due to affordability and accessibility, concerns about quality and labor practices have tempered their overall image. Indian products, on the other hand, benefit from a reputation for quality, craftsmanship, and cultural affinity, making them a more preferred choice for many African consumers.

As somebody who has been a product manager in India for over 15 years, here is what it takes to design a product for Indians. It should work in the hottest heat of Rajasthan, the coldest cold of Ladakh, the wettest rains of Mumbai. It should get certified being tested by a rocket scientist and have ease of use such that an uneducated tribal can use it. Must work in 56 languages. Also it should cost next to nothing, because Indians need to see value.

India is strong in medicine manufacturing because its patent system is different from that of other countries. You cannot patent a chemical compound in India but you can patent a method of manufacturing it. This means that Indian drug firms can make exact copies of medicines if they can develop a different way of doing it. These medicines can be exported to other countries as soon as the patents in these countries have run out.

Indian food is great(probably even the best), their medical services are great and the most affordable in all the places i have visited. Their hospitality is great makes you feel warm and welcomed. They have some of the best places to travel and visit that gives you the same experience of europe. They have affordable shopping experiences. They produce their own electronics now which are very good to use. They produce some of the most beautiful family cars in the market and specially cheap in Bharat. i mean i cant find anything that i can complain ever about Bharath. I love India so much. African consumers can buy affordable consumer products from India as China is now focusing on high end capital products like building infrastructures very much needed in countries like Africa which lacks the basics for any meaningful economic development. There isn’t any problem for India to manufacture consumer products but when it comes to capital goods, that’s a more challenging strategy as China has the tech, engineering skills & financial mgmt. expertise to deliver such products for developing countries on time & within manageable budgets.

Still people buy them because they are cheap , mass produced even if its low quality
Since India has a lot of people who are in the lower middle class category or poor and they don't have the luxury to spare a little more money for Indian products (I'm not talking about phones only)
And then there're businesses who can afford Indian alternatives but they are more expensive in India itself so they purchase mass market dumped products in India to make more profits and that's the part where India is bad people are very patriotic but if you have the resources don't be a hypocrite for some profit

    • @kashyap_0-0_

In case you don't know, market dumping is when someone dumps products in some market at very low prices even with losss to create monopoly and when other businesses incur losses and shuts down you can increase your prices that's what china does for tpy markets and all that's why import taxes are for in some certain sectors
Chinese companies evades a lot of taxes like Xiaomi and some and others were caught doing so when e.d raided them and they had the audacity to say doing such things and calling them out will reduce faith of to do business in Indian market flexibly?

I am so pissed off with “Made in China” that I look at the label first. I would pay double for made in Germany/USA/ UK product.
We have a ceiling fan in our home in India, it was put up in 1962 and it is still working. The brand name is Usha. Same with motorbikes. They last you a lifetime if you maintain them.
