    My #1 reason for not being Eastern Orthodox (besides the fact that I find its online iteration extremely repugnant) is this: The Catholic Church evangelized the entire world, thereby obeying the Great Commission. The Eastern Orthodox didn't.
    St John describes "a great throng, which no man could number, from *every* nation, tribe, and tongue." This perfectly describes the Catholic Church. It does not describe either Orthodoxy or Protestantism.

    • @achilles4242

      This is a big one for me too. The truly universal, standardized way to Christ laid out in plain sight with high accessibility worldwide.

    • @tanyaandtheark
      @tanyaandtheark 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had to comment because this is an overlooked point and one of the reasons I'm not Orthodox or protestant. Bashing other members of the body of Christ seems not only wrong but contrary to the goal when there are still so many who aren't even saved into the faith yet.

    • @TsarOrthodoxBro_II
      @TsarOrthodoxBro_II 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      If that's your reasoning for choosing Catholicism over Orthodoxy, then by that logic, you would've been a Nestorian between the 9th and 14th centuries, since the Church of the East (Nestorians) was the world's largest church in both numbers and geographical extent, spreading the gospel to unimaginable parts of the world. Sunni Islam has 1.7 billion followers vs Catholicisms 1.3 billion, does that mean we should all become Sunni Islam? During the Arian Controversy, there were way more Arians (layman and clergy) than non-Arians. Also, just like islam, Catholicism spread by the sword 🗡️ ⚔️ 🩸☠️, especially in all the former French, Spainish and Portuguese colonies. Speaking of Islam, the Catholic Church believes that Muslims and Catholics worship the same God, since Vatican 2, and so by yours and the Catholic church's logic, its a safer bet to be a Muslim than a Catholic.

      @@jordanp3470 To bash ethnic Churches, is to bash the early Church, and even Catholicism itself. Roman Catholic Churchs used to also defined by ethnicity (Polish Catholic Church, Irish Catholic Church, etc). Back when Rome was still orthodox, all the churches were identified by their local names (even the bible refers to them that way). For example, Church of Rome, Church of Ephesus, Church of Corinth, Church of Alexandria, etc... The One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Orthodox Church is the only unchanged Church that has preserved the original ways and teachings. It was the patriarch of Rome who departed from the 7 other bishops/patriarchs (Rome vs Constantinople, Alexandria, Antioch, Jerusalem Bulgaria, Georgia, Cyprus).

      Please understand that this message isn't to bash the Roman Church, but instead to give you the opinion most of us Orthodox have 👍🙏
      Most of us Orthodox definitely desire unity, but yes, it's true that we most certainly do view Papism as heretical, as did the other 7 bishops/Patriarchs vs the 1 Patriarch of Rome at the time of the Great Schism. In Orthodoxy, it's commonly taught (especially from our saints) that the Roman Church is the first protestant church in history, thats why many call it the "Papist Protestant Church".

    I've been studying St. John Chrysostom and it's clear what his stance was on who St Peter was and who he is etc. Despite what revisionist history both s8des say it is clear that all patriarchates in the 1st millennium deferred to the Bishop of Rome and knew that the apostolic throne resided there. St. J Chrysostom refertopopoe Innocent as his holy master and is writing to him for aid, comfort and spiritual leadership to which his response is authoritative as one would expect. Be not fooled by ecumenists downplaying or denying such letters, homilies and other sayings that clearly give the true history of the papacy and the Church in that time.

      This political document is historically false and is independently verifiable.

    This wasn't good. Try to stay more on point. Papal supremacy is a good key divider. Explore it more. Don't just quote a bunch of lines from the Bible assuming that all who read will see it as affirming papal supremacy. If that was the case, there would be no protestant denominations. Try to clarify your own position as to why do you believe that those passages, for example, show papal supremacy.
    Do the same for the councils you cite. Read the excerpts from them and show they only a confused mind would reject papal supremacy. As is, you merely assert that all these things do so, without presenting any evidence for your position. Thank you for reading and have a nice day!

    To be fair to the Orthodox, they use ‘Blessed’ as another title for a saint, such as for Augustine and others. Just as St Bede is often called Venerable Bede. It doesn’t imply an inferiority in any way as they don’t have a ‘beatification’ step on the path to sainthood but simply canonisation or glorification. I’m Melkite but attend an Antiochian Orthodox parish since I live so far from the nearest Greek Catholic parish. We’re allowed to fulfil our obligation here, per the rules of our Eparchy.

      @@WilliamAlbrecht yes I understand that, just pointing out that often the Orthodox will use titles like Blessed or Venerable for their saints. Also to be fair, many Orthodox sincerely respect and venerate St Augustine for his holiness and piety, but do not fully embrace all his theological views, especially on predestination and original sin. Fr. Seraphim Rose wrote a book explaining this. Their main critique is that the Latin Church embraces too much of his erroneous views, instead of accepting the consensus of the Fathers, where an individual Father makes an error. Also to note, if I recall, Augustine’s works weren’t translated into Greek until much later, so it’s possible his ideas were mistranslated causing some confusion and misunderstanding.

      @@ΆγιοςΙερώνυμος-χ2γ You are incorrect to posit that St. Augustine had diverging views on both predestination and original sin. On both of these views he held the majority Patristic view. His views on original sin are right in line with the classical Greek Fathers and the enshrined teaching at the North African Code. Contrary to famous protestant polemics, St. Augustine never taught original guilt and the so called Orthodox that malign the great Augustine's name do so out of ignorance.

I'm no expert in this subject area, but every Orthodox writer I've read has stated that he taught original guilt which was in contrast to the view of 'ancestral sin' in the East. Every Orthodox priest I've talked to tells me that Augustine was erroneous on those two views, and Fr.Romanides if I recall, goes to an extreme on slandering all things related to St.Augustine.

      Wrong, the Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and Son as taught by the Fathers. Cyril of Alexandria's 3rd letter to Nestorius teaches the Filioque, a letter accepted at Ephesus. Apocalypse of John 22:1 was shown to the Schismatic Greeks twice at Lyons in 1274 and Florence and accepted the Filioque just to return to their vomit.
