It's grey right now in Hobart, and it rained heavily last night. Sydney has also been having heavy storms. I have been walking along the beach, which is a short walk from where I live in Hobart and it's been quite warm. However, the weather changes from day to day, so there isn't a consistent feeling of summer around here... Let's see how it goes for the rest of the year.
Great seeing Aussie Crawl on here again. They look like they had a good time the night before....

It can get cold over here in Hobart, because we are about 5000km from the antartic. There's been heavy winds, and constant rain, as well as, good summers. I found the change to be positive.

Australian Crawl's ''Santa Claus Is Back In Town'' appeared on Countdown on the 12th of December, 1982. A year prior, the band performed ''Lakeside'' and ''Oh No, Not You Again'' on Countdown on the 13th of December, 1981. I never noticed till now that there had been a year in between both CD appearances, and it's amusing that ''Lakeside'' just happen to be the previous Aus. Crawl song that the Haniers reviewed.
Both songs and their respective Countdown appearances do bring back memories of the Christmas season of '81 and '82. The excitement of heading to Sydney in Dec/Jan of both years and the general feeling of Christmas.
For me, 1982 was the year I completed my HSC. Out of school and off to attend a new thing called ''schoolies'' at the Gold Coast. University was just around corner.
Anyway, I do like this Aussie Crawl song just a little more than the Elvis one. The execution is what I like. It's just fun rock music. Perhaps a little sloppy and slack, but who cares? If you're in a pub and drunk, Aussie Crawl's version is going to be a lot more fun than Elvis's version. No two ways about it.
    Cheers,
    Hayley

OH my God!!! I remember Australian Crawl doing this song! I thought they were being dags! And James Reyne !!! He really looks like he doesn't want to be at that Countdown created beach. ''Thank you James'' says Gavin Wood as James Reyne looking pissed off. I love it! My vote's for Aussie Crawl. Not because I'm Aussie, of course not... James Reyne was a bad liar. He could never pretend how he felt. I remember him telling me how much he hated being in Aussie Crawl, and that the sooner he was out of the band, the better. That was during the time they were paying off their debts after their last album flopped. James Reyne and the boys were probably nursing hangovers when they did that shonky performance. Quick Hayley... Get a pen and paper.. it's time to vote for our favourites in Australian musics!!! You vote for The Church and I'll vote for Goanna!
Ha, ha - We were in the studio when Joan Jett And The Blackhearts performed and hosted the show, and we were both indifferent to Australian Crawl doing ''Santa Claus Is Back In Town''. Forty one years later, and I actually have more of a liking for Aussie Crawl's version. Elvis's version has that warmth of familiarity, and does make for a nice background tune with family. But Ozzie Crawl's pub rock take and the reappropriation of the words (ie; ''sun'' instead of ''snow'') is what I know. It's shamelessly cheesy and not to be taken seriously, and I love seeing the Countdown competition announcement, because that really does take me back to December of 1982. It was important for us to vote for our favourite performers of each catagory. Don't know if it made a difference to anybody's career, but at least some artists got to take home a Countdown Award trophy.
    That was quite thrilling.

James or a competent foreign act, they'd opt for the latter on that particular night. goatslunch6991 comments on Oz Crawl's quality as a live band wasn't flattering either.

@@jaymacgee_A_Bawbag_Blethering I'm an American that's lived in Australia for almost 45 years. So, you're not taking this from a raging Australian patriot or an ardent Aussie Crawl fan.
For a little while in the 70's and 80's, Australia had this amazing live music scene. Australian Crawl weren't even one of the great live bands. Divinyls, Cold Chisel, Midnight Oil, Hoodoo Gurus, The Radiators, The Angels, The Saints, Radio Birdman and Rose Tattoo were just killer live bands, putting in 110% in every gig and giving us value for money. I don't agree with the ''foreign band'' comment, because there were plenty of mediocre local bands that could have learned a thing or two from The Clash or The Stranglers or Dead Kennedys. But nobody could top The Angels or Midnight Oil on even an average night in the early to mid 80's. That's why bands like The Kinks put limits on The Angels when they were supporing them on their US tour. Ray Davies placed tapemarkers on the stage and told The Angels that they'd be fired if they stepped out of the taped barriers. They were proving to be a difficult act to follow.
Australia also had very large pubs that shocked bands like XTC. They couldn't believe the sizes of the pubs and the seating capacity. There were also horrible venues that would pack a crowd of a 1000 that could only legally hold 300. Clubs and venues would run all night and all day, and a band could work seven nights a week, doing two to three shows each day. That's why that guy said he rather Aussie bands over foreign bands. I've seen a lot of ''foreign bands'' in and outside Australia, and I stand by the fact that many of Aussie bands were killing them in the 80's. The audience wouldn't put up with less because there were other bands to see. It was a new and ferocious country when I first visited.

Have I got that right RRG or am I subliminally projecting cos it’s not the first time Rod has opened his yap like a modern day Sir Les Patterson and played up to a stereotype of Australian men that doesn’t actually exist outside of his front gate .
Maybe it’s the latter in all honesty .. cheers for that genuine and realistic assessment RRD , I personally am always happy to learn and be educated about other countries and you have a special insight in that arrived from overseas , much appreciated sir ✊

However , I will say I’m shocked at the anti-Elvis vibe going on , there’s no doubting whatsoever his standing and place in the pantheon of R n R greats and it’s somewhat of a disappointment to me to see how casually he is dismissed in general in here today … wow .. okay !
