Most fled to the gates that lead to the tunnels, several of which had been blown open by the latest bombing. Coriolanus could see Lucy Gray’s bright dress heading for the far side of the arena and his fingers gripped the edge of his seat willing her forward. “Run!” He thought. “Run, get out of there!” A handful of the strongest sprinted for the weapons but after grabbing a few, Tanner, Coral and Jessup dispersed. He turned to watch the receding backs of his opponents, threw back his head in frustration and climbed into a nearby stand to begin his hunt.

Even in the book in the ending of the games where she dodges treeches attack and hits him with a snake was pretty cool
She’s decent but it was mostly just cause of snow that she won. Without him she would’ve been one of the first dead. She didn’t even see the point in trying since she assumed their was no where to hide until snow showed up
Her games were sanitized to avoid making capitol citizens react negatively to the carnage. Here we saw at least one guy vomit because of the slaughter.
Odds of survival are much higher when you run instead of going to the main area where all the loot boxes are. It’s like how in games, you never go to the high values places unless you really want to risk fighting and dying. + she had no good allies inside the arena.
Grab what weapon?? it was clear in the books and movies that lucy gray didn't know how to fight. Even if she grabbed a weapon the odds are she's gonna lose if she fight
In the movie version at least 10th hunger games tributes seemed more capable at combat than the 74th tributes, imagine if Facet Velvereen, Marcus Sabyn and Brandy were present during this bloodbath… it would be so gory. So many tributes in the 10th games seemed like that could’ve had a chance to win. I’m the movie version at least almost every tribute seemed somewhat capable with a weapon
It was a bit of a mess tbh. They were just swinging and attacking from left to right. You can tell they didn’t have much training and aren’t trained to be fighters
Not to sound like a shallow capitol citizen but you know why this bloodbath was the best? Because Lucy Gray basically witnessed ALL of the action - Lucy gray dodged reaper coming at her with a sickle just to see him protect Dill from Circ Then she dodged like three swings from coral's trident Then she runs into Panlo who turns around after being attacked by Tanner and stabbed in the chest by Coral Then she watches Sheaf get shot in the leg and then shot in the back by Otto's bowstaff Then she herself has Ott's bowstaff aimed at her and dodges his shot Then she dodges like three of Treech's axe swings till Sol throws a knife at him Then she dodges another knife being thrown at by Sol Then she's about to get attacked by Circ but Coral thankfully kills him after trying to throw her trident at Lucy Then after Lucy gray trips over circ's body she witnesses Teslee get killed by Mizzen after trapping her in his net Then chased by Sol and Hy just for them both to get killed by Coral's pack
I agree with you on that. It's not just random kids we know nothing about in a quick scene where the main character isn't even involved. Also I love that you know all the names too!!
I think this bloodbath also felt so brutal because here we didn't have all the advanced technology to distract us from what the Hunger Games are really about: kids killing kids. There was no speculation on how the arena would look that year, no marvelling at the tech used by the Capital, nothing. If all this is taken out of the 74th and the 75th Hunger Games, they would also be the same at the core of it.
This also shows (retroactively) why the 74th Hunger Game had so many quick cuts. Even capitol citizens had trouble watching raw carnage so quick cuts were added to later games to sanitize the slaughter.
Wish they did the games more like the book. It wasn’t bad but I think the book version would’ve been a lot more sensible with the plot. The only exception really being the bloodbath.
The book version was so much better, having most of the kids run into the tunnels to hide gave them time to think and figure out how they wanted to utilize their talents to play the Game.
@ true. I also think the film version had a lot of different things from the book compared to the past films.. like, reaper not killing anyone was weird (also giving up to the snakes at the end didn’t make sense to me).. no District 3 with the drones… Dill getting poisoned instead of wovey (audience had a better connection with wovery.. it would’ve been more impactful), no snake scene with treech and Lucy (would’ve been better than his death in the film by far).. it also felt like the finale of the games was so rushed.. with 6 tributes left, Lucy poised treech and the snakes killed everyone else in a matter of a 2 minute span. While the ending of the games in the book wasn’t all that exciting, I think it would’ve made more sense with Snow obviously cheating in the games as much as he did.
They had to cut it short for the sake of time unfortunately. I REALLY wish they kept battle between the final two like how they did with the book. Would’ve looked so epic on the big screen.
@ it would’ve been pretty interesting how they did that. I thought too much of the attention was on Corral through the games. They made her and her group seem like a savage career pack.
