  • Hello and welcome to my channel! I want to introduce my 1971 Plymouth Barracuda project car. This car requires a complete restoration and I will do my best to document the process in what will be a long series of videos.
    In this episode I install the new rear footwell pans and cut out the old rusty rocker panels to replace them with with new Auto Metal Direct (AMD) metal!
    If you like my TH-cam content, please consider subscribing to stay up to date. ALSO, check out our Instagram page @rust_bucket_restos as well as our merch available on this page. Thanks for watching!

    Man, I watch you go to town on the rust repair on the Cuda, then I remember, shit, oh yeah, he`s got the 68 Charger mounted over there on the rotisserie, two of my favorite all time muscles cars are in your garage, with all new steel, you have 2 of the most iconic Mopars that were roaming the streets of my teens and early 20`s, this smaller body Cuda went faster than the Charger for sure, love the videos rust bucket, Joe from Michigan.

    Excellent work and instruction as always. I have 2 GoPro tips. I always use mine in the waterproof case. It protects the lens and helps if it's dropped. You can also use a welding hood clear lens in front of the camera. Easy to replace when dirty or damaged. Keep up the good work!

    awesome job! May I suggest a ventilation system when you weld/grind/paint.. even if the door is open sometimes the fumes can get to you quickly and that is a good way to get sick.. Bathroom fan with a flexible duct on both ends , that dumps outside is a cheap way of doing that.. just sayin ;)

    IDK... as a rule of thumb, 2 inches in front of the rust wouldn't work for me. I mean... who knows what someone did before. I went to replace the rockers in my pickup... and someone filled the heck out of them before - plenty of fiberglass/filler... They looked good in places... but had started cracking. Yeah, there was rusty metal behind the stuff that looked good. So I'm sitting here thinking "Oh no... you want to cut out the old before you slice up the new!"... and then wishing you showed us all you did to the inner rockers. I guess 415 is a product?... I was really hoping to see more of that (and wanting to verify there was no rust lurking behind what "looked good". Of course I'm absolutely certain that YOU, of all people, know what you are doing.... always excellent work. Was just hoping to see a little more is all. Thanks for sharing this with us - still eager to watch you move on from the metal work.... and now I'm trying to figure out if a trip to Wyoming is in my future.... lol.

      Actually, the coating he mentioned is POR-15. POR stands for Paint Over Rust. I've been using it since the early 90's. It essentially neutralizes surface rust, stabilizes it, and locks in the metal, preventing oxidation.

    Always enjoy a son and father working together, especially how he'll be driving it when your in a rocking chair. 😆

    Watching a lot of rocker videos. I’ve had a rust free rear clip 70 roadrunner in my basement 40 years. It’s cut 12 inches forward across the car forward of door jam. I just bought a whole 70 car severely rusted rear clip but the front of car is really dry. How would you recommend splicing them together. The downer rear clip is absolute rust free but only has 12 inches of the rocker and perfect quarter panel. I’m sure some structural planing needs to be understood.

    Reversing the ravages of rust with every installment! That tool you finish/burnish the rocker with is amazing. I'd be afraid I never stopped with it and thin out the metal too far. You've got the touch though. Great video. T-bone is way ahead of other boys his age learning to operate power tools and fit panels. He's learned that all important skill of thinking ahead on what his Dad will need next and handing it to him(panel screws). That July goal you've set yourself is really ambitious. Hope you make it. Why open the quarters and NOT do the Hemi/Vert stiffeners/stuffers? Tbone shouldn't wait until the rocking chair, he should start now. Run a 225/6 or step up your chassis stiffening game before birdsong is embarrassed. This car will be a pretzel.
    Where's the POR15?
    Did you inspect the front rockers inside while it was open?

    • @rustbucketrestos6511
      @rustbucketrestos6511  ปีที่แล้ว

      This car will be getting the full USCT chassis stiffening kit in an episode or two. Can’t wait! I’ve shown how to do POR15 in probably 10 different episodes. These also got the full treatment inside. The insides of the rockers looked great! The inners especially are just about mint! 😎🤘
