The goal to reaching 1K subs is like a dream come true in a way, but furiously obsessing it and not expecting it to be a marathon for most people is why too many people give up. If you have the passion to keep posting regardless of how the results are and knowing your videos will be good in the long run as you looked back and know how much you've improved, you are many steps closer to reaching that goal. Honestly, collaborators of a much more successful channel similar to yours and catching their eye helps you that much more. I would say the key word is EXPOSURE and then the viewers notice you from there. The bigger the numbers, the more inclined they are to watch I feel -- and NOT just the thumbnail, that's what catches my eye. Hate to say it. Good luck reaching 1k everyone (with LOYAL audiences 😊).
This is one of the best videos I've ever seen from VidIQ. Full of no-nonsense advice that's applicable to all creators and presented in a very conversational manner. Great work!
Oooh this is useful!! I need to up my thumbails to get more clicks. I normally just up my saturation to make them pop. Anyone else feel like there videos are great but can't get the clicks? Road to 1000 subscribers!! We got this guys!!
💯 As part of a small channel group on FB, when people say my thumbnails are good but I'm not getting views, it's guaranteed they're not good at all. Hopefully everyone sees this and watches. Excellent advice.
I’ve had my tech savy teens/young adults give me feedback, amusing and schooling at the same time. Definitely helpful to have feedback. I’m not Mom anymore I’m “Bro you need to change that one” 😂
Thank you for saving a lot of time! Lots of content well compressed. The best advice for me is to look at more things that work and not fall too much in love with your own creation...
Glad to see my question about a black and white background inspired a section of the video lol. Totally agree that lots of negative space catches the eye whenever passing by them. Might have to expirement with it and try branding a new channel like that
Started to follow these videos again and I'm currently working on a Game Devlog series. I've been gaining a couple subs a day and things are going really great! Views aren't really the best but I can clearly see I'm growing a new dedicated audience! Hope to reach my childhood dream of 1K subs one day, 433 as of writing this. Keep going guys! You'll get there eventually! 🔥🔥
Getting people to click your thumbnails is tough work, at least in the start. You create a thumbnail; you're happy with it and think to yourself that "this is something people will click". Only to publish the video and then your CTR comes back at you like "nope try again", then rinse and repeat. The good news is that you probably just need to keep working on it, and testing out things to see what people click and not within your specific genre and/or niche.
One thing I've learned is that you probably shouldn't put your reactions in your thumbnails, because then people will think it's another typical TH-camr who over reacts about everything.
I'm happy to say that my thumbnails, in the past few years, have improved to the point where most of this info was agreeable/identical. I hardly ever put myself in a thumbnail unless I'm making a vlog episode, because inevitably it's going to be about me and my life adventures. these days, it's more about the product/item I'm recording and the focus of that is what people want to see, regardless of if they see me in the video or not. I operate as a one-man-band, so sometimes I'll need to be in the video doing something, with a camera on a tripod (static), and other times I'll be almost 100% behind the camera and only putting my mug on screen for the intro/outro as needed.
For anyone who is confused about the thumbnails for shorts thing, there is a "hack" you can use to add a custom thumbnail to your short even though it's not a built in youtube feature.

Such a valuable breakdown of thumbnail strategy! Thumbnails truly are the gateway to a video's success, and understanding the psychology behind clicks is a game-changer. I’ve found that balancing curiosity with clarity-while avoiding clickbait-can drastically improve CTR. For instance, using contrasting colors and a clear focal point works wonders, but the magic happens when you pair that with an emotional trigger or promise of value. Out of these 15 questions, which one do you think creators overlook the most? I’d love to hear your take! I’ve shared some unique thumbnail hacks on my channel as well-would love for us to connect and exchange ideas on mastering this vital aspect of content creation.

I am experimenting. 11 weeks in @311 subs. I am throwing wet noodles at a wall to see what sticks! We got this, so long as we don't quit!
Keep growing!
Yep. I've been doing the saturation thing too, lol. Best of luck.
@@vidIQ Yes! thanx! ☺

Dang good video !!! I needed this because the thumbnail process of posting on TH-cam is my biggest struggle 🫠

a minor point of pedantry: 'sans' is french for without, latin is 'sine'
i am new to this and appreciate all the info. hope I can get more traction.
I did find impact works very well. With outlines, basic font but conveys the message

@@vidIQ Wouldn't miss it, you are one of my coaches! 😎
If you use your video editor and export a still visual image you can create a thumbnail that way, I use Davinci Resolve for video & thumbnail editing
Everytime someone referrs to sans font, it just reminds me of the goofy skeleton who will seek revenge if you murder his brother
Same!
