- This is my exclusive interview with amazing CARLOTTA VON FALKENHEYN from DARK. She plays the deaf girl Elisabeth Doppler in the NETFLIX hit show and we did this short interview in ENGLISH LANGUAGE. And let me tell you: this is the first interview she ever did!!! I also made two other interviews with her today in her native language GERMAN. I will put them online in the next weeks. No no... that's not the thing. They can speak english with almost ZERO accent!
@Henry Mv yeah... I agree that great part of language learning lies on input, but it is not that easy to be fluent and have "no accent". These actors probably had a formal education to get that level of fluency, that's the point of my comment. It is indeed astonishing to see these guys so young having such a fluency on another language. I guess it goes a long way too having a robust educational system, hence so many younger german generations speaking a second language like their own.
@Henry Mv your accent when speaking english depends more on your first language than on other stuff. Languages like Portuguese and Spanish have very different sounds and oral posture to English, while German has a more similar posture and vowel sounds, that's why Germans who are fluent in English barely have an accent.

I learned English as a first language along with portuguese (immigrant parents in NZ), but i lived in Brazil most of my life. I've always been fluent in both, but since i grew up speaking mostly portuguese, i now have an accent when i speak English.
Her performance as a deaf person, communicating through sign-language, was ridiculously good.
I actually know some deaf people, but I still thought she was the real deal!
Portraying a deaf or hearing impaired person is about _so much more_ than just the hand signs, but she had it all down perfectly. When she suddenly spoke in season 3, I was *in complete shock...*
That feeling when Elisabeth’s real name is basically Charlotte spelt a little differently. As if things weren’t already weird enough between the two.

I’m very unfamiliar with the culture. Would you mind sharing how that works exactly? Do you guys learn it in school? Or do you speak it regularly even amongst other natives? And do a lot of households use it? I just figured it was a class thing as most people from an acting background would generally be better off and thus have access to better education and might also have to socialize with more foreigners duo to their career’s demands, but I guess I was wrong
She's not just good at acting but also good at English such a talented girl. Btw in case some of you wondering why she like the trailer scene because that scene was really hard to play but she could nail it perfectly that's why it's one of her favorite scenes.

I just assumed they found a deaf child actress for the role. Wouldn't have been too surprising with all the other great casting in the show. But no, turns out she's just really good.

She was so good in Dark and imbued the character with such a sweet childlike innocence which is eventually ripped away as, I suppose, she faces her second death, the loss of innocence. My heart broke for Elisabeth, but I took solace in the fact she was eventually reunited with her dother/maughter. 😋😋😋😋

Favorite part she signs in is Season 1 Episode 4. Double lives. Time stamp 42: 50 she rubs her fingers against herself and makes a leaking exhaust sound 😄 She's so adorable in that scene. Excellent show. I highly recommend it.

I think Dark is perhaps the best time travel show I've ever watched. It's so deep, surprising, complicated, and informational, but it also has so many twists that it makes pretzels dizzy!
Young Carlotta is such a good actress that I too thought that she was deaf and mute. I just started Season 2 so I am way behind. But I only found out about the Netflix series after watching 1899, last week...which is another unforgettable mind-bender!

I've only seen the first season and she's pretty much only in 1 episode, but she's my favorite character. Her demeanor and the weird quirky things she does I thought were hilarious in conjunction with that goof mouse hood that she wears. At one point it shows a family picture and she's wearing that same goofy mouse hood. Just before walking home in the rain she decides to put on the lipstick she stole from her sister... it's so random and goofy. And her acting seemed so authentic.

The Falkenhayn lineage (first documented in the 13th c. as noblemen but not of comital or ducal rank like the later territorial princes and lords) came from North Thuringia.
